Forgotten Retail/Restaurant Chains

HICKORY FARMS
Now this brings back memories. Mostly smells. The big red barns sold encased meats and fat chunks of cheese. It was particularly of note for the broke kid wandering the mall, as they often had free samples of summer sausage and whatnot. The brand still exists, but you certainly no longer stroll past farm structures in the mall.

Speaking of game rooms, it was another restaurant called Shakeys Pizza.

Man i used to love that joint.. like u said moms n pops used to take us out south to that spot.. hell i went some year back looking for it..shit was gone out of business... man i was disappointed...

Any of my North Carolina peeps, remember Carolina Circle Mall?

I see you Greensboro! This use to be my favorite mall to go to as a kid. It had the skating rink and the AMC movie theater which was the biggest around. It had stores like "cheap joes" where you could get the cool parachute pants. Stores like East West Gifts where you could get the nunchucks and Chinese star weapons like they had in the kung fu flicks. They had the big arcade I can't remember if it was called "Tilt or "Electronic America." I wish I could build a time machine and go back to the 80s. Greensboro was never the same without the Carolina Circle Mall in my opinion!

I'm pretty sure the arcade was called Tilt. I spent many Saturdays playing arcade games like Street Fighter, NBA Jam and Mortal Kombat with my friends there.

wow almost forgot about them.

but they are now only open during the holiday shopping season with large kiosk setups in malls.

Giant Open Air Market was a Norfolk, Virginia-based supermarket chain. Its trademark stores were open 24 hours a day, and the entrance was framed with an arch which rose to over 30 feet, anchored in concrete. In 1986 the 26 grocery stores merged with Farm Fresh, another Hampton Roads grocery chain, and the name disappeared, though the giant arch still remains on the logo.

The Farm Store. It was a drive through convenience store. They use to get robbed all the time, so they put cages around the entrance. It looked like the clerk was inside a jail cell.

They still around, bruh. Just not as many of them.

Thanks for the memories though.

Just remembered. The arcade room was called The Tilt. They shut it down in Early 2000s, once the bad economy started to hit the malls.

It sat in Ford City Mall near one of the side exits for the movie theater..

I also remember that I bought a fake gold herringbone chain from one of those pakki kiosk that they had in the middle of the mall. Turned my neck green.

I remember going to the one on 163rd Street in North Miami, when there was a movie theater back there too. They had that crazy system, where you bought your stuff, then had to wait for it to come down the conveyor belt. Got in trouble so many times in that store.

Back when that mall and the Omni were the spots to be...

I think I may have single handily put them out of business. LOL.
I use to get free trials at different locations and backup all their movies onto blank DVDs. I would rent like 3 movies at a time, rip em, and be back in a couple of hours.
Repeat, wash, rinse. I built up my entire DVD using them and Blockbuster.
Jokes on you, you got a stack of DVDs probably sitting next a big ass CD Booklet.
Remember when having one these made you the man....

One was bought out by Rite Aid and the other by CVS, oddly the buyout corresponded with the color of the company that bought them.

LOL, I ripped all my CDs and DVDs to hard drive years ago and gave away those big-ass storage books. Those things were a pain dragging around.
