CHESS KING
This young men's shop dates back to the 1960s. Its founder figured boys liked chess and racing, and came up with Chess King. In the 1980s, this became the depot for those fashion plates hoping to emulate Jon Cryer in Pretty in Pink. It died off in 1995.
use to spend a lot of money in this store and another called silvermans in high school.

At its peak, Arthur Treacher's Fish & Chips had about 800 locations across the country.t

Fast forward to today, and the restaurant chain conjures up images of a bygone era.

Throughout the 1980s, Arthur Treacher's went through several owners and quickly began to lose ground to its competitors. Before long, hundreds of locations shuttered, and the chain was a shell of its former self.

The chain isn't completely gone, however. There are seven remaining locations around the country - three in New York and four in Ohio.

the one in ohio, the food tastes like salt. i've been to two of the locations in the past year.

Any of my North Carolina peeps, remember Carolina Circle Mall?

Man I was in Grad school down in G-boro in 95/96 and I hit this spot up a few times. It was already on the decline at that time. I remember thinking this was Chris Rock meant when he said it's 2 kinds of Malls. Malls white folks go to and Malls white folks USED to go to. Carolina Circle (in Greensboro) and Landover Mall (in PG County Md) were prime examples of this.

Yeah, Carolina Circle Mall started declining in the early 90s, but it was still fun for me as a kid. People started going to Four Seasons instead. Funny now, Four Seasons is in decline (pretty much every mall in America is too).

Sam Goody was a music and entertainment retailer in the United States and United Kingdom, operated by The Musicland Group inc. It was purchased by Best Buy in 2000, sold to Sun Capital in 2003, and filed for bankruptcy in 2006 closing most of its stores. The remaining stores were purchased by Trans World Entertainment which also runs FYE, Saturday Matinee, and Suncoast Motion Picture Company. It specialized in music, video, and video game sales. In 2008 Trans World converted most Sam Goody stores into FYE, though some still operate under the Sam Goody name.

Orange Julius is an American chain of fruit drink beverage stores. In 1987, the Orange Julius chain was bought by International Dairy Queen. IDQ, and by inclusion since 1999, Berkshire Hathaway, owns the rights to all Orange Julius stores, and has expanded the chain so its drinks are included in many of its Dairy Queen mall stores, called Treat Centers.

The Be-Lo trademark was developed in the late 1950s as a common brand that could be used by retailers who bought primarily from Norfolk, VA based wholesaler Camelia Foods. In 1987 some of the better locations rebranded Fresh Pride, and although the company has passed through at least one bankruptcy
