I stopped having sync/backup problems a few days ago after a some apps updated.
it dropped at 1pm est
I Did Update, Then The BackUp, When It Was All Done I Lost All Of My Music. Luckly I Have Them On My Laptop And External HD.
I Think Instead Holding Shift & Restore I Think It Should Be Shift & Check For Updates....

There is no way to lose your music if you sync with iTunes
You supposed to backup then update.

So now I have 3.0 for free.
Just to be clear, a backup only backs up your Ipod config and settings.
You have to sync to get everything else.
I lost all of my music because I do not sync with Itunes.
Not a big deal..because it's all on the server anyway. I'll just add it back.
Luckily I did sync my apps before upgrading so I did not lose them.
So now I have 3.0 for free.
