First of all, let me pay tribute to the greatness of Messi. He is very dangerous, especially when cutting across from the right...He has great ball control, vision and pinpoint passing...However, he is no longer the best footballer in the land. I think the torch has already passed to 18-year old Neymar..

Here is my argument for Neymar...

Like his mentor Pele, the boy has no left or right leg, he simply has legs. Like his hero Pele, the boy can dazzle you and make you look like a fool. Like Pele, he has a cannon with other foot from 30 yards away. The boy has speed and has technique; he has vision and killer instinct.

Neymar has more ball control than Messi. Neymar has more speed, quickness and guile that Messi. Unlike Messi and anyone from Argentina, Neymar plays honest football, like most Brazilians, and does not flop in order to gain undeserved advantage...

If I was Mano Menezes, I would give that boy the number 10 shirt right now and sit Kaka's cac ass down on the bench, or at home...I have seen the future, it is already here and it is a brightly burning star called Neymar..

Those of us who have been watching this sport for a long time, have not seen a talent like that since we watched the grainy images of Pele.. Ronaldinho had flash, Neymar has more of it, and substance...

At the same time, the fact that he is still in Brazil speaks loudly the apartheid in the sport of football. At his age, Messi had been in Spain for years, Sergio Aguero was gone. At the same time, the so-called best league, the Premiership, has opened its doors to anyone carrying a US passport, even if the fool can barely kick the ball...

Neymar, Pato lead new-look Brazil over US 2-0

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — For those thinking the United States was near a breakthrough at the World Cup, Brazil's young, new-look team showed that the Americans still aren't close to catching up with soccer's elite.
In the first match for both nations since a disappointing World Cup, a mostly young and largely inexperienced Selecao rolled over the United States 2-0 in a high-profile exhibition Tuesday night before an excited near-sellout crowd of 77,223 at the $1.6 billion New Meadowlands Stadium.
"I think due to our age and inexperience, we were a little naive," Landon Donovan said. "You can see Brazil had a little more savvy. They're a little more clever, and that makes a difference in a game like this."
Neymar scored in the 29th minute of his national team debut, and Alexandre Pato added just his second goal for Brazil in first-half injury time. Soccer's Samba Kings outshot the U.S. 20-7.
"Any time you play Brazil, no matter who they put on the field, it's going to be difficult," said goalkeeper Brad Guzan, who replaced Tim Howard at the start of the second half. "When we left the World Cup, we felt positive about ourselves and positive about the direction we were going. We didn't build on that."
In what may have been coach Bob Bradley's final game, Donovan thought the Americans should have been awarded a penalty kick in the third minute, when he was freed by Edson Buddle's pass in front of the goal and whacked by AC Milan defender Thiago Silva. Canadian referee Silviu Petrescu didn't blow his whistle, and Andre Santos cleared.
That was the best American chance, and Brazil improved to 15-1 in head-to-head matches. This Selecao moved the ball more impressively than the veterans eliminated by the Netherlands 2-1 last month in the World Cup quarterfinals.
Neymar, the 18-year-old Santos sensation, lived up to the great hype. He had just switched with Robinho, one of four World Cup veterans on Brazil's roster, and moved from the left flank to the center when Andre Santos came down the left side and crossed. Neymar beat Jonathan Bornstein and sent a 9-yard header inside Howard's left post.
"I was running back toward the goal, and all of the sudden I saw the ball curling in," Bornstein said. "I tried to jump to it, but it was curling away from my head and went straight to their player."
Pato doubled the lead when Ramires' through ball split Bornstein and American captain Carlos Bocanegra. Howard came out, the 20-year-old AC Milan forward blew past and put the ball into the open goal, his second in nine appearances and first since his debut against Sweden in March 2008.
"They put you in such difficult spots defensively," Bocanegra said. "I made the decision to step, and probably should have went the other way and maybe tried to run back."
New Brazil coach Mano Menezes, promising to restore "Jogo Bonito (Beautiful Game)" as Brazil prepares to host the World Cup in 2014, jettisoned the dour defensive tactics of Dunga, who was fired after last month's defeat, regarded back home as a national embarrassment. Menezes unveiled an attack-minded 4-3-3 formation with Pato between Neymar on the left and new Brazil captain Robinho on the right.
"That's the line that we will establish from now on," Menezes said through a translator.
Neymar and Pato, overlooked by Dunga for his World Cup roster despite public clamor for their selection, appear likely to be regulars during the next four-year cycle, which includes Brazil's defense of its Copa America title next July.
"Everyone was very comfortable playing together," Neymar told Brazilian media. "Mano gave us a lot of freedom to do what we always do on the field, and that helped a lot. That's why we were able to play so well."
Bradley's contract expires at the end of the year, and it's not certain whether the U.S. Soccer Federation wants to retain him. Before he was hired four years ago, former Germany coach Juergen Klinsmann withdrew from consideration.
When the Americans gather next, it likely will be for an Oct. 9 game against Poland in Chicago.
"It was agreed after this game there would be some more discussions and we will see where those discussions go," Bradley said.

Landon Donovan played in the 2002 world cup, when Neymar was 10 years old, he played in the 2006 World Cup, and in the 2010 World cup. The only Brazilians with World Cup experience on the team were Michelle Bastos (2010 World Cup), Ramires (2010 world cup), Danny Alves (2010 world cup substitute), Robinho (2006 and 2010).

The Brazil we saw yesterday was basically an under-21 team. The scorers, Pato and Neymar, are 20 and 18 respectively, where Landon Donovan in 28... what sort of shit is ???? The US team that played is the best they have. Case closed period.

The US wasted their money playing that game yesterday. Since they did not touch the ball, they were not able to learn anything. If I was the coach, I would schedule games against Malawi for the US national team. The reason is simple, Malawi will have speed and quickness. They will give the US team a test and an opportunity to practise some of their skills. Once the US can improve their skills, then they move up and test their skills against the likes of Ghana and Ivory Coast. From there, they can play France and other European teams..

Scheduling friendlies against vastly superior opponents is stupid, especially if you become nothing but a punching bag. Improve by practising against those of a comparable skill level...

Brazil is a big stage. Santos did well with him. Messi is the one who is proving to be a flop on the big stage. He went out of the world cup with a whimper. Put Neymar at Barcelona and see what happens... No, I take that back, put him Valladolid and see them charge up the table...

If you grew up playing football, you know a player the moment you see him. Case closed. Neymar is not going to only be a great player; he is already the best player in the world.

No Brazilian team plays in the Champions League. I would like to see Barcelona play in the Sao Paolo Tournament... I would not be surprised if those slow cacs ended up in the middle of the table... Playing football in Brazil is like being a musician in Kinshasa, the level of competition is different from anywhere else..

And even then, I am sure that Barcelona would be more dominant if they traded Messi for Neymar. Everything Messi can do, Neymar can do better, but there is too much Neymar does, that Messi could never be able to do. Of course that racist Guardiola who has slowly rid Barcelona of all the black players would never do such a thing.

i know that no Brazilian teams play in the champion league. but you have the supercup last Brazilian team i remember was gremio vs ajax and ajax took that one.

like i said when neymar comes to any european team it doesnt have to be Barcelona and does his shit then we can talk. i dont give a shit about messi my play is drogba but facts are facts

I hear what you are saying, and under normal circumstances, and in fact, in every circumstance, except Brazil, that is how it is. Brazil is different, the level of talent almost always renders reference to any other league irrelevant..

As for Drogba, as good as our brother is, this kid Neymar, is on a different planet from mortal humans...As people who grew up playing football, we know by just one look who is a real player... You can tell from the skills who is special..This like Maradona, but with two legs instead of one...The only player I can compare him to is Pele...

As you know, I gave Ivory Coast a very good chance of beating Dunga's Brazil, because of their impotence in midfield. If Drogba had been healthy, I believe they would have won. They were dominating the game, before and after Brazil scored against the run of play. On the other hand, Menezes Brazil of yesterday, would give any of our teams fits. We would be more competitive than the US was, but they would win the game because as good as we may individually be, they are better...

Messi is finished. That is it, he cannot get better than this. He is as fast as he is gonna get, he is strong as he is gonna be. Messi, however, is neither that fast nor that strong.

The question we should be debating, is whether Kaka has any place on this team. I don't think so...

Yeah. Ive been up on Neymar for a while...the kid can fucking play man... I dont know about being better than Messi or even on that level yet but he has a lot of potential. I watch him at Santos all the time.

kaka is done in my eyes he should have never left ac milan. as far as neymar goes i would like to see another player besides messi do something specially when he is black. drogba is getting old so he maybe has 1- years left. but i would like to see players do shit when they reach his age.

i dont trust players anymore the game is changed. the money is too big now. in the 90s you could see a great player when he was young. it was still hard work. shit ajax in 95 had to win the champions league before those players were ever noticed. now if you play one good game is enough. droste drenthe that plays in madrid is a good example. :smh:

I feel Ganso has more potential. His is like what Xavi is to Messi. He kept Santos together this season, IMO.

Im surprised you are giving Neymar so much props. He was the one player that I kept saying Dunga should have had on..at least as a reserve because him and Robinho were playing together for Santos and he was playing MUCH better than Robinho..I mentioned Pato and Ganco as well but I really thought Neymar should have been on...but interestingly enough a lot of Brasilians thought he was too young or maybe they just knew that Dunga wasnt going to put him on regardless..

That kid is a sick finisher man...he makes cats look silly sometimes..

I dont think Kaka will be placed back on this team man....I think when coach came and made the new team a couple of days later and cut most of all the older players...he was showing that he was going fresh and young. Kaka was already looking like shit...he will be 32 for the new cup...he will only get slower and it is not like he is a great dribbler...he will just take up space in the midfield at that point.

Currently, Neymar is doing what Messi hasn't done and that's shine on the world level. I've always said Messi was a product of Barcelona, and this World Cup further proved my point. Not to berrate Messi in anyway cause the kid can play, but if Neymar continues this on the international level, I can't imagine what he'll do when he's given what Messi has behind him which is the Barcelona machine.

To be fair to Messi though, he's got one last shot in 2014 to redeem himself on the grand stage in my eyes. If he does nothing down there, I see no reason in comparing him to Pele or Maradona any longer.

But currently, this kid Neymar is special.

But remember I kept saying Brazil needed a playmaker in midfield... Neymar was deadly where ever he was on the field... Imagine if you put him in the middle of the field with the latitude to do whatever he wanted... Luis Fabiano, as efficient as he is playing for the national team, would score 15 goals...We are having a parallel discussion on this on several African music boards and the consensus is that the boy the is best. It is that simple...

The boy is a dangerous finisher with either leg, the head, in tight closed spaces, or wide on the wing. I have not seen anyone with that kind of ability except Pele...Imagine if you gave him the role of a Zidane.....oooooooooooooh!!!

Of course I am very happy to learn that his birthday is 5 February; the only thing better would have been for it to be 4 February like mine...

Yep. Robinho had a lot of buzz. Robinho is the only one that I can think of in Brasil that has had similar hype...and it compounded with them both playing for Santos (Pele effect). The thing that is different between the two is that Robinho never had two legs like Nzinga pointed out...Robinho had flaws in his game...Neymar is a complete player...but I agree... I want to see him play against bigger and stronger players in Europe before I crown him...
 
Great topic, good question. Watched Neymar for the frusta time yesterday. My only issue is the durability of his frame. Will it hold up for him to establish himself in the record books.

The US is a joke. The US work rate was simply too low. For the most part, the US just stood there watching Brazil pass the ball around.

Second, the game is STILL not in the US psyche. Until, the US players dream football, they will never make it at the elite level. It is not to think where the ball is going to be, but to move to where the ball will be and then marvel at what a great move you just made. This you cannot teach. The imagination for the game is a culture.

Oh yea, this is about Neymar... Fuck him... I can't stand the Brazilian national team anyway! :lol:

Im so used to him being a striker-forward at Santos and always playing near the goal because Santos is stacked in the midfield... so I have actually never even imagined him playing in the middle...

but no doubt...I think I actually made a post on the sports board a few months ago saying to watch out for Neymar.. i said this back in May
