Jazz Cats and some people in R&B a band for example the internet or the free nationals anderson paak band are keeping it alive I blame more on labels and executive decisions breaking up bands for the leads to do solos that hurt alot of bands still does today as to follow what popular at the time to follow new rules or stipulations of the era but that happen down the line the sounds of the time reflect the generation than going with what they're known for hip hop in the beginning used a live band samples been around before hip hop existed process similar to sampling originated in the 1940s with musique concrète, experimental music created by splicing and looping tape. Hip hop is always evolving what it was a year go to even ten is always updated it has regressed in some ways but has progressed because of hip jazz people even rock people are playing it now while hip hop was playing jazz in tribute of it now it reversed
To answer your question mainstream hip hop is the focus and is popular for now but these form exist just not popular but real heads know the good music u have to search for through there a rise and fall in every music genre it won't be like this forever something new hybrid whatever will replace it that how life goes.
