Emirates is excellent. So is Turkish, though I haven't flown them in a couple of years. Virgin it's been too long for me to evaluate. US-based, United and Delta suck ass. And then suck each other's ass. I dread flying in the US because Jet Blue doesn't fly everywhere. Wherever they do, they're the best US carrier.
It's fucking amazing how much money the airlines make and how they constantly make conditions worse for passengers; even first class. It's called "calculated misery." Google that shit. It'll make you want to fuck somebody up. And of course, lots of that money goes to lobbyists to persuade (aka payoff) congress to NOT take action.
As far as airports, since I'm so familiar with Idlewild, uh, JFK, I'll say it's my favorite. There are some overseas that are very nice but when problems arise (and you know they will) the service becomes terrible.
LAX is a mess; O'Hare is a mess; Hartsfield-Jackson is a train wreck; Newark-Liberty is a crackhouse; La Guardia is undergoing massive construction which will most likely make it very pleasing to the eye, however, the vehicular access is still horrendous and those short fucking runways are a no-go for me.
