A woman has warned against pit bulls after her 'gentle' dog of nine years suddenly turned and launched a vicious attack which resulted in her losing an arm.

Traumatized Yasmin Adam, 45, was left lying in a pool of blood and fearing for her life after her beloved dog Sir Hinkles mauled her.

The brutal assault took place after Yasmin attempted to break up a play fight between Sir Hinkles and her two other dogs.

Yasmin Adam had her dog Sir Hinkles for nine years when he suddenly turned on her after she tried to stop him taking part in a play fight with two other dogs

Prior to the attack Sir Hinkles had never shown signs of aggressive behavior, sleeping with Yasmin in her bed and always being with children

The previously good-natured animal suddenly started barking before launching himself at Yasmin, biting her ear and tearing flesh from her arms.

Yasmin says bloodthirsty Sir Hinkles, a nine-year-old red-nose pitbull, chewed on the bone in her left arm for nine minutes before police arrived and shot him dead.

The former quality control technician had recently moved to Fort Lauderdale, in Florida from Greenville, South Carolina, with her pets when the attack happened.

Yasmin said: 'I guess there was tension after the other dogs were fighting. Next thing I know he jumps up and bites my ear.

'I knew what was going on but I didn't feel any pain. I guess I was in shock.

'Sir Hinkles went back in his cage then, but all I can think of was that he got a taste of blood because he came right back out and bit me on my right arm.

To be honest I thought I was going to die so to have just lost my arm I feel lucky.
'After that he attacked me on and off for nine minutes. The dog ripped all the meat off my lower left arm, and that's gone now.

'I just stopped fighting the dog. I figured I was going to die. He kept trying to pull the bone out of my arm.'

Fortunately, a friend who was also living in the apartment, alerted the police, who pepper sprayed the vicious dog before shooting him.

Doctors at Broward General Hospital, Florida, battled to save Yasmin's left arm for three weeks before it was decided that amputation was the only way forward.

She said: 'It was the most painful thing I've ever experienced in my life.

'I could see the bone clear as day. Eventually, they amputated it from just above my elbow on December 26.

Yasmin was in at Broward General Hospital, Florida, for six months after the attack and during her time there, her two other dogs were put down

Yasmin Adam: 'I loved Hinkles, I had him for nine years but he turned on me in nine minutes. Now I warn people against these types of dogs'

'I'm just working on getting my right arm functional again. He ripped that arm apart too, but not as badly.

'I can't move my wrist and I have limited movement in my fingers. To be honest I thought I was going to die so to have just lost my arm I feel lucky.'

Yasmin, who is unmarried, was in hospital for six months after the attack and during her time there, her two other dogs were put down.

While Yasmin was upset she couldn't save them, she now warns people about the dangers of owning this breed of dog as, prior to the attack, Sir Hinkles had never shown signs of aggressive behavior.

She said: 'I loved him so much. He slept with me in my bed, he never was out of line.

'He was always so gentle with children and really friendly. He never snapped at cats or little kittens, he never touched a kitten.

'I didn't even have to put him on a leash because he was such a good-natured dog.

'I loved Hinkles, I had him for nine years but he turned on me in nine minutes. Now I warn people against these types of dogs.

'People always say 'It's how you raise a dog that matters', and I was one of those people.

'And I do believe to a certain extent that's true. But animals have an instinct they can't overpower and that's what happened with my dog.

'I thought he would never do anything like that and look at me now.

'Don't be tricked into thinking they aren't capable of doing something like this.'

Why do you have to come at me like that fam? My relatives have a pitbull and she's soft and trained well. People get dogs and think they instantly have control, forgetting that animals need constant educating when they are young. I see it all the time. My friend has a dog that torn up her front door, ate the legs of her dining room furniture, turns on the stove, jumps on the table and eats food...the dog is a maniac because she refuses to train it. She had that dog since it was six weeks old and made little effort to establish dominance.

I don't agree with you but you didn't deserve to be cursed & assaulted verbally for having an opinion. Wish BGOL was more civil.

Death to pit bulls. That’s why I always wish they’d try me when I jog or walk in my subdivision. I always got the apparatus of death waiting for them.

My fault its the fuck them its not my issue slant that's not only here but prevalent in today's society. That's partly why I mentor to prevent jail/funeral home numbers from rising cause someone didn't give a damn to reach out.

Obedience classes via petsmart or elsewhere are needed. These dogs are lose cannons if not trained. Heck even if they are trained they can snap and rip a kid's face or arm off.

Last week I was back in the city visting an elderly relative taking him to the grocery spot and b4 i can get out the car a grey pit pull put its paws on my hood b4 i could get out the car . I called the animal patrol . Today its my car tomorrow its a toddler.

45 is an old lady? :hmm:

anyway, the rest i agree with. always be ready to kick your dog's ass. they dont understand anything else.

With your last sentence you are admitting that they are inherently dangerous and vicious creatures.

Armageddon? :rolleyes2:

Besides the dog took the left arm, she's alright.

Figure law enforcement won't use these dogs, yet everyday people get these dogs (sometimes for the kids) then never get these dogs the properly training they need.

But but but that's not a pitbull. .it's a mix...but but...its the owners...but but but all dogs can bite.....but but but she didn't train him well....but but but...9 years isn't long enough to get to know the dog.....but...but..........

I don't like pit bulls, never have. They are unstable, never been know for reliable watch dogs or being smart.

When I see them, I immediately reach for my snubnose full of boogahs. I let cats know, straight up, if your pit comes too close i am blowing him away.

"He don't bite!", fuck that, keep a leash on him, or start digging that hole. Otherwise, move to the fucking country with that bullshit.

I know all dogs can flip out and I know pits, if raised and trained right can be friendly and shit.... but just by their physicality they have that potential to do lots of damage. Got a female friend whose dumb ass boyfriend got one because his friends all had them... then decided he didn't want the dog, so when he jetted, he left it with her. She didn't even want it in the beginning but since she mostly raised it, she couldn't give him up. I understand that and all, but I keep warning her... yeah he's friendly and all, but don't do stupid shit.... shit that she and her 10 year old do all the time. don't be grabbing toys and especially food out of its mouth thinking you can play like you would with a poodle. A poodle with snap at you sometimes for grabbing food out its mouth, and it may break the skin... that same episode with a pit could end up very differently. I hope she gets it.

Any dog can be a terror if you don't train it, but pitbulls, shepards, and dobermans can do the most damage because of their size and build. I got bit by my friends yipyip dog...it didn't tear me to pieces but it shows that an owner needs to understand their animal's temperament and raise them properly.

This stood out of me. When you start looking at Animals like theyre one of your Children, then thats a problem.

Imho, a lot of Animal attacks, in general, happen because Humans dont know how to respect Animals space. They keep Animals as pets because "theyre cute", but they dont bother to learn about Animals. Why? Because a lot of Pet owners are lazy mofos who dont respect shit.

Btw......when it pertains to dog bites, imho, Pitbulls dont make up the largest part, but strangely, theyre the main ones that get reported.

A docile dog which she had for 9 years suddenly turns vicious...

I've gotta believe there's more to this story than we've been told.
I honestly don't think pitbulls are any more aggressive than any other breed of dog.
But it's their upbringing and treatment at the hands of their owners & environments that play a large role in their temperament.

This type of thread brings out the worst in people man. We can't generalize all pitbulls or any other "perceived" dangerous animal. When we see a kid acting crazy in a store, we usually ask "where are the kid's parents?". It's the same with dogs. People get dogs for companionship or as an extension of their manhood...just because someone gets a dog doesn't mean they are mentally and physically equipped to raise it.

I agree. Fuck pit bulls. And damn, I actually agree with Dr. Truth. I'm gonna play the lottery today
