Im almost scared to use a razor because everytime i do,bumps just popup on my face, but when i use an electric shaver, only minor bumps popup.I know this is kindof similar to the other dudes "Face creme thread",but im specifically targeting what "kind of creme or after shave i can use to stop bumps" after i use a razor, because this is almost embarrassing to a nigga.

Yeah I need advice on that shit to.My shit be all fucked.
And how tha hell do you get rid of ingrown hairs????

you will get bumps from both razor and electric untill your skin gets used to one, so stop using both and use one, after a week or of shaving daily or every other day you wont get bumps

Some black men cannot shave with a razor, period. I use andis clippers(t-edger i think its called). I wash my face with hot water then i soak a hot wash cloth and put that on my face or head. and finally i shave with the grain of the hair.
Black hair is extremely curly, and when you use traditional methods to shave your head or face you cut the hair below the skin. With people with straight hair it's not a problem because the hair grows straight out first. But, with black folk the hair curls under the skin first, the follicle gets infected and surprise...razor bumps. no matter what i use, razor, cream, anything other that clippers = razor bumps. Also, afterwards wash face or head again and use alcohol(you can get the pads at the pharmacy for like a dollar).

Shave with these

Just like the oxx727 said.

I've been using B&C Skin Tight Extra Strength for about five years now.

Just put it on right after you shave and let it air dry three times a day if you can and you will notice a big difference, I did.

1. Shave before you shower and if you get a lot of bumps wash your face with warm water first
2. If your hair is very curly/nappy like don't use a razor, especially if you are trying to get super close or stretching your skin to shave...UNLESS you plan on shaving with it everyday
3. Wash your face and follow with an astringent at least twice a day, if you sweat or get a lot of bumps clean and sanitize more often, do not put lotion on your face before you clean it with aftershave I personally use shaving gel by Gillette

Razor bumps have been almost deaded with me since I have made it a point to clean and sanitize my face every 4-6 hours until the hairs come back

c/s I cant shave my neck cause I get razor bumps but I can shave my face with no problems at all

Last time I used a Razor my face seriously fucked up. Bumps, itching, ect.

I use Andis Outliners, they cut close enough and I don't get any bumps.

for me it's clippers below the jaw line and razor above the jawline...
my neck is not as a close shave as my face but I don't have any bumps...

had to learn this from 6 months off haveing a no shave chit, cause i was looking like an alien threw up on my face...

1.) shower
2.) wash face with a gentle facial cleanser. use warm water (softens the hair)
3.) lather up with shaving cream
4.) shave with a good razor. go with the grain
5.) while your face is still wet (or you can reapply shaving cream), shave again, this time going against the grain (the only way you can get a close shave is to go against the grain)
6.) wash your face again this time with cold water.
7.) use an astringent or witch hazel or tea tree oil to clean your pores
8.) apply a facial moisturizer with aloe or cucumber

another thing to do is weekly maintenance by using a facial scrub that will work away the bumps.

your face will get accustomed to this regiment after a little while. and then all you have to do is shave regularly and maintain.

I'm one of those brothers who simply can't use a razor. It tears me up everytime I try one. I use hair clippers to shave and keep it moving.

First of all, if you are getting bumps, that means you are shaving too close. Don't use double and triple blade razors that shave below the skin line.

I use clippers like several others have mentioned in this thread. I don't own a specialized clipper. I use the same clippers I use to cut my hair. Just a $20 Wahl that I got over 20 years ago.

I am a black dude with nappy hair who use to have terrible razor bumps on my neck. I found out razor bumps and acne are mostly caused by dirt and oil on your skin, even the smallest amounts, i.e. dirt under your fingernails. I have finally got rid of them by doing the following

1) Cover the area to be shaved with an extremely hot towel (which will open the pours)
2) I use Andis clippers and cut it as low as possible
3) I go to this store called Lush (though they have their own stores, they're usually in Macy's) and I buy Koal face soap and apply that as an aftershave
4) After about 10-15 minutes wash off the Koal face soap
5) Cover area with cold towel (closes the pours)
6) Apply 100% pure Shea Butter (found at your local flea market, sold by Africans and or Muslims)
7) Viola

If anyone tries this let me know what it does for you

I just blacked out and went it, excuse the typos, but...

If You are prone to razor bumps here is how you can prevent them. (as far as treating them, give your hair time to grow out and recover , usually takes a month or so of not fucking with the area at all except for washing with black soap and using the tea tree oil as i will explain) but to treat ones you already have, takes time.

This is coming from a guy who has tried many different things, experimented, and eventually found a fairly good formula, kind of a happy medium. Not a completely smooth shave to the touch, but to the eye (when seen from another person).

You may work in a job that requires your beard to be shaven, ok then. Well, you may be like me,a super negro with the kinkiest of kinky hair. You might can get away with shaving your mustache (shave down, direction with the grain) with a razor but get bumps when shaving you neck/beard area with a razor.

You need seven things:

1. traditional shaving kit: Gillete razor (mach 3 turbo, not the razor blade that vibrates, the regular one) and shaving cream (don't go cheap, get the super moisturizer shit, for sensitize skin shaving cream, you know what i mean)

2. Magic Mild Fragrance CREAM Shave....mild version in the green tube , don't worry, we not gonna burn you up.

3. Your trimmers of choice, or even an electric shaver (not sure if expensive is better , more on this later) look for asterisk at the bottom ***

4. Skin tight ( I use the B&C brand but i think the other one in the blue bottle might do, not sure, but i tried that shit before and it dries you up pretty good, so with both brands, only dap A LITTLE BIT on your face.

5. Tea Tree Oil ( get two bottles from walgreens, kind of expensive like 8 or 9 dollars these days? or something like that)

6. Black Soap, the real shit from africa, ghana and such (looks brown, like a shit ball or something), so yea, don't be buying that shit created by the man, (although all the other products i'm listing are :lol::lol::lol:

7. Witch Hazel ( the cheap route) or Cetaphil (prefereable) either will do

so yea, basically, long story short, when you wash (hopefully at least once a day), use your lil body wash and shit, dove, lever and all that, but take some time out to use some black soap too (its best to store it in one of those plastic soap containers you can get at walmart, so it doesn't run everywhere and be all exposed to open air.

ok, also, take the lil glass bottle of tee tree oil and throw that shit in a big ass bottle of regular ass shampoo so its diluted. So when you wash your hair, rub some of the lather from the shampoo on your beard area and let it stay there for about a minute or two.

do the above like everyday,(AFTER YOU SHAVE in the morning)or at least every other day, (clean with the black soap and wash your hair and beard with the shampoo with tea tea oil added. It doesn't take long to add the above washing shit to your routine.

alright, now on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, shave with your trimmer/or electric shaver. After you shave, dab a little , and i stress a little, of the skin tight on your shaved beard area, and then put your lotion aftershave of choice on after that to get it smelling all good for the women. and your done.

Use the regular shaving kit (blade, etc) to shave the area of most black mens face that doesn't bump up, like your mustache and side burns, just remember to shave in the direction that the hair flows.

Alright, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, you use the magic shave, keep that shit on for only like 7-9 minutes because that shit burns, and you still gotta dab up with skin tight at the end. I usually take the magic shave off with the end of my toothpaste tube, the flat end on the bottom to scrap the hair off, and you good. get the little floaters left around with the electric trimmer, but be gentle, and precise hitting only the stray hairs, cuz your skin is sensitive after applying the magic shave.]After you shower apply the skin tight. (so it doesn't wash off of course)

I say the days like that because, i try to minimize the amount of days that I have to use the magic shave, plus i don't shave on the weekends unless i have an event. So you go from Thursday to tuesday, giving your skin plenty of time to rest up and recover from the magic shave. You can mix it up how you want. But i use it (magic shave) because it takes the edge off the hair meaning it kinda dulls out the jagged fuckupness that happens when you use the electric razor that sometimes pulls your hair up and then cuts it which is one cause of bumps, because your hair springs back into the skin and ingrows. only bad thing is magic shave stinks and it burns if you leave it on too long, so use a stopwatch.

*** the more expensive electric shavers tend to pull and then cut, as opposed to the cheaper ones just cutting. The setback with the cheaper ones is you have to replace them every month or so because they wear down very quick and lose their effectiveness. The expensive ones (over 100 dollars)don't cause that big of a problem, plus if you use the black soap/tea tree oil/ skin tight combo, your good regardless,so get an expensive one i say.

P.S. I said buy another bottle of tea tree oil and the witch hazel/cetaphil because once or twice a week (better before you go to bed and/or when you not fucking with any hoes, cuz the scent is strong )you should clean your face and beard area with something that pulls out the oil and dirt (cetaphil), and then rub some tea tree oil in your hand and apply it directly to your beard area where you would normally get razor bumps. This will keep them razor bump bitches at bay.

Lots of shit in writing but really in actually doing, its not much, just keeping up the routine, only adding a few minutes a day to what you currently do is all it amounts to really, no more than 10 minutes a day when you use the magic, and thats few and far between.

Aight, good luck.

you will get bumps from both razor and electric untill your skin gets used to one, so stop using both and use one, after a week or of shaving daily or every other day you wont get bumps

Preach!!!!!!!!!!!! I use ot bump up back when I was younger. A old head told me that I need to shave everyday or every other day to get rid of the bumps. Been shaving with a razor now for over 20 yrs and I hardly ever bump up, unless I go multiple days with out shaving.

There is no general rule

Depends on your hair and skin sensitivity. I hear brothers swearing by this and by that.

I have sensitive skin and really tight curls. I struggled years with Mr Magic and various chemicals

Now, I use this and it has been specially designed for brothas; especially those of us with tight curls. Not all black hair is the same!!!

http://www.justbeautifully.co.uk/wahl-what-a-shaver-cordless-rechargeable-hair-trimmer-9947-801.php

I use this and similar marketed "black men's" shavers and they last about a year - the bad part is they are rechargeable or battery operated so you have to make sure your shaver has power or go to work stubly. The straight edge never cuts close enough but I don't have bumps and you can't really see the stubble unless you get close. Either way I get Black or Shea Butter soap and wash real good before and after I shave with straight up rubbing alcohol as a chaser. I can get away with the alcohol because I use cocoa butter wait a little bit then rub it off.

The latest rechargeable shaver I use now is a Norelco - two straight edges, a foil attactment and a nose/ear hair attachment. That foil gets so close it makes my face look cleaner - somebody asked me what I was using on my face or if I was using makeup - I guess I was a dirty looking fool before.

I can agree with this. I NEVER use a disposable more than 3 times (I have to shave with a sharp razor) Also, I put Neosporin on my face to keep the marks to a minimum.

This is what my pops use to say but I didn't have the discipline to shave every day.

Shave with these

I agree I use those to, I have a bad problem with them cause my hair naturally curls back into the skin like that. My best suggestion is to shave every two or 3 days, don't allow the hair to come back, the minute you see stubles go and shave. That prevents them from getting a chance to grow into your skin. I have been doing it for a long while now with good results. And like the guy above said, use clippers and not razors. Those Andis T-Trimmers get me as close a shave as I need.

i use phillips norelco

Philips-Norelco-Arcitec.jpg

i use it on my face with no bumps and very little itching

im still trying to figure out what to do about my neck

if your black and have curly hair try not to shave with a razor. use an electric razor but if u want to use a razor try to shave as often as your hair grows in. For example some people need to shave twice a day others are every other day, depends on your hair. But skin tight or bump stopper 2 are good brands.

The actual fact is that the human facial hair is harder than steel.
Yes! This is true hair can dent steel. Anyway when you shave in the wrong direction, or angle, you end up creating a point on the end of the hair. The pointed hair, which is curly, curves back into the skin and punches thru taking debris and germs along with it which infects and creates bumps. At this point the solution would be tweezers and prolonged use of an Andis T-outliner or T-edger. Shaves the hair in one direction only, preferably downward strokes. Shave every two to three days no less.
Eventually the bumps will fade. Witch Hazel is a good astringent for bumps, rubbing alcohol will dry out your skin. Mineral oil based product are derived from coal processing and is toxic to your skin and leads to baldness. So be Leary of what you put on your skin and hair.

Fuck all that technical shit, put a dab of toothpaste on the bump before you go to sleep for a few days, it will dry it out and leave no scars
