Every Rapper With A Platinum Album In Hip Hop History

No Rick Ross?? While not a fan, I would have thought he would have at least 1.....

He came in the wrong era

He would've went platinum in the 90s and early 2000s

In this climate he is just a gold artist at best

Shaq and Silkk the Shocker???? People who bought Silkk the Shocker need to be tested for mental illness.

Shit silkk may have been trash but those albums were jammin!

You know all No Limit albums were basically compilation albums anyway

They had all the artists on each other's albums

There was a surprise on here

great post

This from an entirely different era when people actually bought records even with Napster and bootlegging.

I was buying EVERYTHING No Limit dropped in '97 and '98 so I bought "Charge It To The Game"; shit was utter trash other than "You Ain't Gotta Lie To Kick It" which still has factual relevance today.

I don't know about that. Between the time Lil Wayne was going platinum and up to now where Drake is going platinum. I find it hard to say it's just because he's in the wrong. It's seems Ross just had/has a limited appeal.

im not a ross fan but he would have. back when buying an album or the single was the only game in town it helped pushed a lot of people into platinum status. he'd have at least 1 platinum album.

Man silkk the shocker had multiple platinum albums

Nuff said

Niggas like Drake would be doing crazy numbers that's all

It's all relative

Ross was heavily promoted and his albums (except for 1 I believe) always got the #1 spot on the chart. The question is why is it that lil Wayne and Drake can do it in this era and not Ross (with the big machine behind him)?

A lot stood out....dont feel like typing all the names tho.

Only a handful of those on that list are actually doing well for themselves. Mainly because the got with the right white folks (Jay Z) or because they knew how to take care of business after their careers were over.

But that list also shows you how shady the biz is. You can blame the artist for being dumb all you want (as far as money management and contracts) but truth is they get signed when theyre "hungry" and got fucked over by jews who have no idea about what good music is.

Btw...Pac died as soon as he started to getting popular. I wonder how many more platinum albums he wouldve had if he was alive.

See my Chi town Brothas Kanye and Twista up there......Common SHOULDVE went platinum at least once...imho.

I think some of it has to do with image, when it pertains to Drake and Wayne. Even tho Wayne and Drake are or close to 30 years old...truth is theyre still young and marketable. Imho...their images can be easily sold to the buying audience...partly because they built a nice fan base years ago and also because of HOW THEY LOOK. Even tho Ross gets spins amongst the young folks...he aint got that "it factor" that can be sold to the buying audience.

The type of music that u put out also factors in. Drake and Wayne made a lot of pop party type songs.

Look at Biggie....Biggie didnt have that it factor either. He had hella bars and talent...but didnt have the look that could be sold. Folks dont want to admit it ....but Diddy was a major factor in selling that "Biggie image". Biggie wanted to be more grimy...Diddy added in that "party vibe" that helped get Big more spins.

One reason JayZ is still "noticeable" amongst the younger folks.....imho....is because Beyonce is on his side. She fills in those popularity voids that he could no longer fill.

Like someone has already mentioned. He was riding the wave of NoLimit success. people were just buying anything No Limit.

Because they couldn't get it any other way

Now you can stream albums, download, burn CDs, etc

Back then niggas was just buying albums

More than 1 million people want to hear Rick Ross enough to actually purchase an album if they HAD to

Which basically you did during No Limits peak

I will assume you are combining all his albums to come up with that figure because if more than 1 million people bought a single album. Then he would be on this list.

Crazy shit is I was a Silkk fanboy when he was out (I think all niggas that were 14 -17 were )but when I got older and listened to his shit I was like "what the fuck is this bullshit":smh:
Then I got a little older and for kicks I went back and revisited his shit again...the truth is Silkk was actually nice with the bars but his mic control, over dub vocals and being off beat fucked him up...the niggas was spitting some rhymes though if you listen to the words.

Me too...it was on the top 8 at 8 for like a week then the PSA service announcement from the DJ came before they played it then 2 weeks later NEVER heard it again on the radio

Hell yeah  The PSA HAD ME DYING LIKE A MOTHERFUCKA cause the Lords were crying like bitches because of the "we don't need no Hooks":lol:

That record was burning up the airwaves in Chicago and then POOF gone!:smh:

and to think how many artist didn't go platinum and at one time from what I've read Gold was standard when it comes to success.
A lot of rappers we thought were doing something.

What I'm saying is in 2015 they don't have to buy his album to listen there are other ways

In 1999?

Not so many so more people would be forced to buy

Buying albums was still the norm

What made him so bad is like you said he just jumped on ther mic and was out of control, off beat, all that

Just awful

But we was  anyway

So every album Eminem ever put out went platinum. White power in effect.

And I thought Tony Yayo went platinum too with Thoughts of A Predicate Felon. Guess not.

G-Unit had made history with every member having a platinum solo album.

Notice all of them except Drake came out before 2008 and got 10+ years in

I ain't gonna lie I kinda hate the fact that Drake got 4 platinum selling albums over artist I feel should have more than him.

Major factor....but he also has talent.

Indeed he does and I like Eminem but all his albums weren't platinum worthy imp :smh: But that's what fanship will do.

This shit just made me want to go out and buy the albums of those artist who albums didn't go platinum that I think are platinum quality. Namely DJ Quik. Only his first album went platinum. :smh: He should have way more platinum albums than that imo. Even tho I already got all his albums Imma go get them again. Same for others. Y'all can ridicule me for paying all you want idc

Geto Boys only had one? Wonder which one, have to the one with bill shot in the eye or with Big mike.

Yea I checked,, it was We can't be stopped...

Bra..Silkk had no sense of rhythm and his adlibs would fuck up the whole groove of his verses...I know you remember his trademarked "ARRRRGH"..I hated when he did that shit..

The one with Big Mike was considered a flop and he actually got booted from the group for that.

I believe ressurection was the one that went Plat.

Jay-a was hating and fucked Purple Haze promotion

That piece of shit cocksucka

We still got a platinum plaque faggit

I think that is the album that I stop liking Cam'ron.

Is that the album where he said, "I got the boosters boosting, I got computers 'putin..."

:hmm:

looks like 4-5 is that rare air. thought mobb deep would have had more than one. jay picked up where pac and big left off. if 3000 didnt go into his funk outkast would be up there with jay and pac

Folks easily forget how BG was that nigga at CMR before Juve popped off and Wayne was third in line, but always had the hot hooks and verses.

clean up man is that shit, my cousin from Shreveport played that for me back when ny niggaz wasnt really fucking wit the south
