Southern-Style Fried CabbageIngredients: • 1/2 large onion, chopped • 1 red bell pepper, chopped • 2–3 cloves fresh garlic, minced • 4–5 slices of bacon, chopped • 1 head of cabbage, chopped • 1/2 to 1 cup chicken broth (as needed) • Salt & pepper to taste • Smoked paprika (about 1/2 tsp) • Garlic powder (about 1/2 tsp) • Onion powder (about 1/2 tsp) • A pinch of sugar (optional) • Red pepper flakes (to taste, for a little kick)Instructions: 1. In a large skillet or pot, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon and set it aside, leaving the drippings in the pan. 2. Add the chopped onion and red bell pepper. Sauté until softened. 3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute. 4. Add the chopped cabbage. Cover and let it steam down a bit, stirring frequently. 5. Once the cabbage starts to wilt, pour in the chicken broth. Season with salt, pepper, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, a pinch of sugar, and red pepper flakes. 6. Cook uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and most of the liquid has reduced. 7. Stir the bacon back in just before serving. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed. Serve hot!
