It’s been nearly three years since the controversial death of Eric Garner and now his widow Esaw Snipes Garner has won a settlement of $2.4 million for his death. It has been reported that she’s received approximately $500,000 from the settlement, so far. But like most people, she doesn’t desire for the money to led to drastic changes in her life. In fact, not very much will change at all; not even her address. Home Sweet Home: Despite the staggering windfall, Esaw Garner has revealed she has no plans to move out of public housing. Since the $2.4 million will not count against her income, she would actually be able to continue living in her apartment in Fulton Houses where she’s lived for years, reports the New York Post. A representative with the New York City Housing Authority even confirmed Garner would not even have an increased rental rate. Backlash and Opinions: Although the decision is solely up to Garner, many social media users aren’t too happy about it. As expected, her decision has been met with opposition and an array of mixed opinions. While some people understand her perspective, others just don’t understand why she would choose to stay in poverty with $2 million in the bank. Do you agree with Esaw Garner’s decision to live in public housing despite her wealth? Share your thoughts.
