Which was the better(or your favorite) DJ/MC duo in the 80's between the two?

Eric B. & Rakim were a hip-hop duo composed of DJ Eric Barrier (born November 8, 1965[1]) and MC Rakim (born William Michael Griffin Jr.).

Hailing from Long Island, New York, the pair are generally considered by hip hop enthusiasts to be one of the most influential and innovative groups in the genre. During hip hop's "golden age" of the mid 1980s to the early 1990s, the duo was almost universally regarded as the premier MC/DJ combo in hip hop. The two had a potent chemistry; the duo's beats built on the hard-hitting sound of Run-D.M.C. by adding James Brown samples and Eric B's scratching, setting the stage for hip hop's late-1980s/early-1990s infatuation with samples from Brown.
Notable journalist Tom Terrell of NPR referred to the duo as "the most influential DJ/MC combo in contemporary pop music period,"[3] while the editors of About.com ranked them as #3 on their list of the 10 Greatest Hip-Hop Duos of All-Time.[4] They were nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2011.

DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince is a hip hop duo from West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rapper Will Smith (The Fresh Prince) met Jeff Townes (DJ Jazzy Jeff) while trying to make a name for himself in West Philadelphia's local hip hop scene. After joining forces with Clarence Holmes (Ready Rock C) the team members became local celebrities. Holmes left the group in 1990, and later sued it in 1999.

The group received the first rap Grammy ever in 1989 for "Parents Just Don't Understand", though their most successful single was "Summertime" which earned the group their second Grammy and peaked at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Will Smith and Jeff Townes are still friends and claim that they never split up, having made songs under Smith's solo performer credit. DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince have sold over 5.5 million albums in the US.

I will say this... At the VERY least... Will Smith DID rap...
No matter how WEAK his lyrics may have been... He DID RAP...
I TRULY BELIEVE... that ERIC B NEVER KNEW HOW TO DJ... :smh:
I have been in the studio when he and Rakim were recording...
I've EVEN SET UP TURNTABLES FOR THEM in the studio...
And I have NEVER... EVER... EVER ... seen him CUT...SCRATCH... OR MIX... :smh:
I've EVEN BEEN TO ERIC'S B HOUSE IN QUEENS... I've seen TURNTABLES SET UP IN HIS BEDROOM... and I TRULY BELIEVE... HE NEVER TOUCHED THEM...

there's plenty of Eric B's scratch fails but the one at the beginning here KILLS ME! :smh::lol:

Can't compare the two since just mentioning the duos puts you in a mood to hear some dope rhymes or light hearted rhymes.
I put them on an equal plane because "Summertime" still bumps, "Brand New Funk" still bumps, "I Ain't no Joke" & "Paid in Full" still bump.

But who has a video game?

Those AREN'T even his cuts... Those are samples of cuts... I was there when they recorded that album... Eric NEVER DID ONE SINGLE CUT ON THAT ALBUM...

Were you there when Mister C stole the show at Eric B.s party? I thought he was a studio DJ. Eric B. got on the tables for about 5 minutes and his blends were ok but the needle skipped on him when he tried to scratch.

Exactly, its a very STUPID comparison, just like someone was trying to compare UGK to Run-Dmc, it does not make any sense at all.

Stupid Comparison.
Their Fans were TOTALLY different
Eric B & Rakim were REAL Hip Hop
Their Music was being played in Clubs
Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince were a cross over group
Whos's music was being play mostly on MTV and
white stations. "Summertime" was the only song being
played on Black Stations. I actually
considered them a comedy routine

Rakim is a MC. No comparison
Eric B. is good
Fresh Prince is a ok Rapper
Jazzy Jeff is Great.

If I have to pick a duo it would have to be Eric B and Rakim.
I wish Jazz had worked with Rakim on a few tracks or albums.

and i ALSO heard Rakim wrote Summertime

There's been a longstanding rumor that Rakim wrote part or all of "Summertime" for Will. Is there any truth to that?

Not at all. He had absolutely nothing to do with it. When Will did "Summertime," I remember telling him, "Don't say your name." If Vanilla Ice would've made "Summertime" and didn't say his name, you could not dismiss that you like this song. I knew how much Will nailed it, but you had people that didn't necessarily look at me and Will as hip-hop because we had crossed over and sold so many records on the pop side. So for us to come back and do a record that started off very strong on black radio, we'd always get, "Oh shit. That's Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince?" If he had said his name in the beginning, there'd be people who would've just turned it off or dismissed it. Will was always very hyper and I told him, "Bring it back. Vibe with it." And when he did that, everyone was like, "Wow. He sounds like Rakim." From the first day we played the record for people, they thought it was Rakim. When we first released it, everyone was like, "Did you hear that new song that Rakim did?"
