Eminem Crowned 'King of Hip-Hop' by Rolling Stone

Not mad about it, Em is one of the greatest lyricist to walk planet Earth and doesn't get outshined by his peers on any track he lays it down on (excluding that Loud Noises track). He's got sales, came up through Scribble Jam and the Rap Olympics so he's got the rep (don't recall Jay or anyone else doin that), amid a two bad albums he was able to bounce back with two top selling albums and a few singles, only thing you can really nitpick Em about is his beat selection

"Hey Em, You my Favorite White Boy!!!!!!!!!!!!"

must be a slow year for HIP HOP...Rolling Stones dont mean shit in the HIP HOP world now if it was the Source then the shit wud b more serious but RS fuk them muthafukaz

Why y'all getting mad? It's their opinion. of course they're gonna make him #1. Jim Hendrix was listed as their #1 guitarist of all time and I thought that whole list was BS too.

For the record, Eminem doesn't even touch my top 20 but that's just my opinion.

And anyone who equates record sales to quality is an idiot.

- and anybody who tries to argue against REALITY to prop their own personal private tastes in music is an even bigger idiot.

i can't stand the beatles, but they pushed a lot of units and made music that millions of people love...it's not my thing but i don't try and argue against reality either - they were a great band and they deserve all of their props. :dunno:

EMINEM
* most likes on facebook of anybody or anything
* one of the top selling artists on planet earth out of all genres even in 2011
* an international superstar that came up through RAWKUS. RECORDS. (that speaks for itself) :hmm:

you niggas don't like him b/c he is white, or b/c he isn't from your particular coast.

IM SORRY BUT THIS IS THE STOOPIDEST ARG

- you must be a child.

1) several people are arguing in this thread that rolling stone should stick to rock n roll, but nobody was saying that when obama was on their cover 5 times in a year...how you didn't connect these two on your own is beyond me.

2) educate yourself

How can someone be king of anything without having influence?
.

- right. because eminem hasn't influenced this generation of rappers (especially the white ones) not one bit.

seriously man, how are you dudes functioning in day to day life being this stupid? seriously. :smh:

there is no king of hip hop PERIOD
never has been
never will be
and rolling stone isn't qualified to speak on hip hop when it doesn't even cover ALL of hip hop
invalid
and worthless

Rolling Stone hasn't been qualified to speak on anything outside of Top 40 corporate music related for a minute. They're little more than a mouthpiece for the entertainment industry.

Britney Spears.
Spice Girls.
N Sync.
Back Street Boys.

All sold millions if not more than Eminem and did nothing to push the boundaries of music. All number one acts at one time or another and none of them have a shred of talent, between them. At this very moment, there are countless more deserving bands, struggling to stay afloat, because their sound isn't as marketable as talentless hacks like the aforementioned.

Rakim hasn't sold even a 1/4 that Eminem has but his influence on hiphop has been much more profound.

Popularity has never been indicative of how good something is. It is simply an indication of how easily the masses have been manipulated. The people who deserve props for helping record sales are the radio stations, marketing team and record labels. That's not to discredit artists who organically build up their fan base but to give props solely due to one's popularity truly shows you don't know shit. The fact you're using the 'most likes of facebook' to substantiate your claims makes me laugh.

What's this reality you speak of? Pick up a dictionary and understand between the difference between opinion and fact. Sales = facts. Liking or disliking something = opinion.

I've never questioned why people like things yet you feel the need to act as if I and others don't like him simply because of his race. If anything it shows how parochial you are.

Dumbass.
Need I go on?

He can have all the talent in the world, and be as versatile as he wants to be. Compared to the likes of Jay-Z, he simply doesn't matter. Period.

Now who's mad...

C-S...:itsawrap:

I see Em is still one of the most polarizing topics on the board. Ninjas be gettin' heated when he is given any kind of credit or props. Your favorite rapper will tell you that Em is one of the best to ever pick up a mic, and is arguably the King right now (unless your favorite rapper is Benzino) ... and having the respect of your peers goes a long way IMO.

Simply put, he is the King if you use the same formula/criteria that Rolling Stone used. Feel free to come up with your own criteria to crown your King... which I'm sure some of you will find a way to crown Gucci.

Burr. :hmm:

Yep. The same way the way they picked Em can be called "flawed" so can whatever argument you have for someone else, including Jay-Z.
RS does these lists to get people talking about them and it worked.

:lol: @ the people trying to rationale for Eminem. Nobody said Em doesn't have skill. But to be honest it's hilarious that Rolling Stone even made a formula. Again Hip hop is the one genre where "they" can't impose who is who. Prime example: When the Source named Biggie "King of New York"(and rap for that matter) On the cover in 96, the rap community for the most part accepted it. It's not based on facebook likes and youtube hits. Again that's why a cat like Jadakiss can be one of the greats without selling records..

Far as Em vs. Jay...sure Em can rap, Em has the respect of the hip hop community but to be honest the hip hop community doesn't relate to Eminem. People talk about "respect of your peers" ...who has more than Jay? I've not heard ONE rapper yet say "I look up to Eminem". Cats all the time talk about how they are influenced by Jay. Even the cats that don't like him respect his track record..... Shit look at Wayne dude actually said to change his style "I did nothing but lock myself in the house and listen to Jay-Z") Dudes from everywhere respect Jay when they talk about influence. Everybody who has got "hot" in the past 10 years goes to get Jay for a track, it speaks for itself.

At the end of the day, hip hop people like artists they can "feel" and the average hip hop head who is likely an inner city minority can't relate to the trailer park, drug induced adventures of Eminem. They respect him as a rapper, but that's all they see him as.

:eek::smh::smh::smh:
King of Hip-Hop' by Rolling Stone:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Exactly. The editors over at RS are genius because I can't remember the last time they got people to talk about them like this. I just left the barbershop and this came up.

Best believe, Em isn't going to go around calling himself "the King of Hip-Hop".

Britney Spears.
Spice Girls.
N Sync.
Back Street Boys.

- i had to stop reading after this dumbass list. eminem's career has lasted longer than all of theirs and he is at his peak.

at this point you are just sitting there arguing to be arguing...you won't even address the fact that eminem came up through RAWKUS..

.now hit me with the obligatory "wtf does that mean!?" comment

right. because eminem hasn't influenced this generation of rappers (especially the white ones) not one bit.

seriously man, how are you dudes functioning in day to day life being this stupid? seriously. :smh:
Name a relevant rapper influenced by Eminem. Please. And when I say 'relevant' I'm not talking bullshit commercial success. I'm talking legitimate artistic relevance.

I'll wait.

And if by some chance you could name someone who mattered, take that list of yours and compare it to the rappers influenced by Jay-Z or Kanye West. And then, my semi-retarded friend, see who wins.

You fucking nincompoop.

i've noticed that any and everything CONCRETE, has been immediately dismissed in this debate:

- album sales
- youtube views
- career longevity
- $$$ earned
- digital downloads

yall dudes are mad at rolling stone and me, but are NOT giving clear precise guidelines and RULES as to HOW we should measure the GOAT in hip hop...

one of you even went so far as to say "you can't measure the GOAT!" yes you can nigga! you just want to toss out CONCRETE indisputable FACTS that we judge every other music artist by despite the genre, OUT so that you can put your favorite rapper IN...

bottom line: Eminem based on album sales, career longevity, consistency, $$$ earned, popularity, is the GOAT.

Do you seriously think Jay-Z wakes up and wishes he was Eminem? You can't be serious.

:confused::confused::confused:

got damn nigga you gonna complain about him too?!?

he is 23 years old, put it down on the underground for YEARS before he got signed, he doesn't rap about crack, murder, rape and makes music that everybody can enjoy...

now, muthafucka you asked me a question and i posted, AND HE SAYS HE WAS INFLUENCED BY EMINEM (among others)

Damn, it's sad when people go above and beyond their way to force people to agree with them. Goes beyond being a Stan.

It is what it is I guess. :dunno:
