Eminem Crowned 'King of Hip-Hop' by Rolling Stone

What does that mean in terms of mainstream hip-hop nowadays? Least lame? I wouldnt take the Source seriously if they did same, Rolling Stone is a rock mag, so they matter even less.

that's a fail. if jigga isn't the king of hip hop right now then it's wayne. em dropped relapse, the recovery, and bad meets evil but still failed to make any waves in the hip hop community

but whatever :dunno: today isn't the day I start caring about a walter magazine's opinion on black culture is

there is no king of hip hop PERIOD
never has been
never will be
and rolling stone isn't qualified to speak on hip hop when it doesn't even cover ALL of hip hop
invalid
and worthless
Cosign,I try to tell people not to be so quick to crown or give talented people titles because your personal feeling toward that individual.Be it hiphop,sports,fashio,art,..ect, lets not crown anyone, not while life & living continues to go on.

LOL this is why I've always loved hip hop because it is a culture and music that is completely unique and can not ever be duplicated. Unlike how when whites stole jazz and rock they can't steal hip hop....

Jazz and rock were made by the people but it didn't belong to them. Hip Hop will always belong to the people. Mainstream media can never impose on the hip hop community who gets respect. Yeah you can hype up the Soulja Boys and whoever else but it doesn't give them respect. Example: Jadakiss is a top tier rapper in the hip hop community despite never selling a big amount of records. Slaugtherhouse, Jay Elec, Currensy, Shit look how Wiz came up, all these cats are/were thriving without mainstream success. They want to do it so bad but they can't. To be honest there can be no white "King" of hip hop. Jay-Z is King. The "King" has never been determined by the undisputed best because everybody has an opinion. But by consensus Jay is the most popular and powerful rapper in the game. Mainstream has wanted to make Em the Elvis of hip hop for years, but they can't because he doesn't have the heart of the people he never will because he's not from that cloth.

eminem? The fuck outta here. Maybe in 1999-2002, you might of had a argument but eminem is garbage right now, the only reason why he still relevant is because he is white.

He is been trash since the eminem show, but you got so many dick sucking niggas in hiphop now, they won't speak the truth because there scared it might hurt there white fanbase.

Jay-z to me (especially when he dies) will go down as the greatest rapper alive surpassing biggie and tupac. We won't say it now because he is alive of course but

he has been out seen 1996. And in 2011 (presents) still sells more records than your average rapper. He is the true king of hiphop

this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

C/ muhfuckin sign!
Black folks in the hood still love this hiphop, we lost jazz & rock when we started fucking with r&b & funk thats when jazz moved to the ritz carltom &become all about halls & auditoriums & jackets& blazers and stopped to address the immediate urgency of the streets, but in this case 10yr old black kids r still fuckkng with it, THAT'S WHY IT CAN'T BE STOLEN YET! Until the 10yr olds get tired of it hiphop ain going nowhere!

Your son or the rapper?

Em sells more albums than Jay-Z. Em's rhyme scheme is superior to Jay-Z. Jay-Z has better beats than Em. I have no problem with Em being Crown King of hip hop.

And jadakisses rhyme schemes r better than wacka same goes for Talib, mosdef but drake is ahead of all 3 in stats but the streets know better!

Most you dudes have all his albums.

of his whiny, annoying, nasily ass voice.

somewhere terlaw is smiling .

EMINEM should DECLINE THAT BULLSHIT HONOR from ROLLING STONE, that's an AFFRONT TO ALL THE BLACK RAPPERS who have BUILT HIP HOP TO WHAT IT IS TODAY.

Again, EMINEM SHOULD NOT ACCEPT ROLLING STONE's ELVIS-AZATION of HIP HOP

RIGHT!! some of these niggas are full retarded....where was all these militant "whitey stole hip-hop" crybabies when DMC was writing songs for the Beasty Boys..:smh:

ain't say'n em is the king but these some of these dude are trippin....

These mihfuckas counted ytube views & record sales!!! Sheeit?
Rebecca black: has more views than d'angelo & milli vanilli has more sales than lauryn hill! Go figure ! From a publication that touted hiphop as a fad that will die out! :smh:

Lyrically, maybe. Does that hold up using the metric Rolling Stone used?

Used my own. Em was definitely in beast mode early in his career. Now he just talks about the same shit. Still mad at his mom, Kim, etc... Flow sounds a little stoned. Em should definitely be listed among the best that ever rocked the mic but not in the last couple of years.

The best rapper (who's music is still consistently dope) is not Jay. :smh: It's the cat who ethered him.

As for the last couple of years (Rolling Stone's range), you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that did it better than Kanye though. People can say Wayne but I relate more to Kanye's music.

And jadakisses rhyme schemes r better than wacka same goes for Talib, mosdef but drake is ahead of all 3 in stats but the streets know better!

How much do they sell?

I think the black people who are against Em being crown this are the equivalent to the white people who fear their country is being taken. Notice the similarities.

Rolling Stone magazine is a fucking joke now.

They had Snooki on their cover (!) a few months ago. They hold no revelance or credibility anymore.

I haven't heard anyone else that had a better body of work, especially his last CD. And i'm not a Eminem fan, but I have to give props to him.

Don't hate on the player hate on the Game.

You can say Em is the top selling and most popular rapper of all time: numbers don't lie.

But king of hip hop? Nope, the majority of his records are garbage. He could fart on an album and his core white fan base will buy his album.

Jay is king because he has

- consistently put out good music, that's respected by both underground and mainstream fans since 1996
- been involved with one of the greatest rap battles of all time: Takeover vs Ether
- has the most #1 albums ever
- Still sells at least 1.5 million copies of each solo album, he puts out
- been the president of Def Jam
- influence in hip hop, sets trends (button down shirts), kills trends (autotunes)
- the list goes on

Who did Em battle in his career...Britney Spears, Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey, Ja Rule after he got bodied by 50 cent?

C'mon now!!!! LMAO

They're going by record sales and white people love him. He has the type of fans that don't listen to rap but will go buy an Eminem album.

rolling stone is a closet racist peace of shit...

they give wiz khalifa a cover but he has to share it with fuckin snookie... snookie who sucks the mike not rock it.... that bitch cant even turn on a radio but yet he had to share it with that slore...

fuck that rag, they send me free copies and I just leave that shit in the lobby guest area....

right now rakim is the best.. look how white fans looked out for their legends. us sunblessed folks wont do so for ours..

em is nice but he aint original.... he took the best style of several rappers and merged them... he even admited to this... if tupac an biggie were alive em would me in a mental institution writing on walls.

Jay-Z also lost arguably the biggest battle in hip hop history.

I always ask Jay-Z fans to name one of his albums that transcended hip hop or made a huge difference in hip hop. At least one of Eminem's albums has given validity that a white dude can be a superior rapper. None of Jay-Z's albums has made a mark in hip hop history like one of Eminem, Outkast, Run DMC, Biggie, etc. Oh yeah. I wish someone would say Reasonable Doubt made a mark in hip hop or call it one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time because when it was released 3 or 4 albums overshadowed it.

Em is white and thats an advantage that no matter how much they try, the biggest african american rap star will never ever be able to top. em is white, he's a damn good lyricist, and he makes good songs. thats a triple threat for success. and hes not a wigger, just an average crazy white guy. and thats why hes was number one.

Now if we lived and a fair and just world that title would belong to Lil Wayne. the fact that he wordplay his insane and that he makes radio friendly singles should be enough to put him at the number 1 spot. the one thing wayne does that em doesnt is get the club jumpin and get the ladies on their feet. and thats a crucial part of being a rapper nowadays

Lyrically, maybe. Does that hold up using the metric Rolling Stone used?
This metric you mention is based primarily on popularity (in a two-year period no less), which makes it incredibly flawed.

There's not a king of hip-hop. If there is, it's not Eminem. His impact was always minimal especially considering his popularity. He's never influenced the genre Rolling Stone claims he's king of in any way. This is a byproduct of white supremacy without question. As dramatic as it may sound, it's true.

^^^ obama was on the cover of rolling stone 5 times in a year, none of you cats were screaming rolling stone was a "rock n roll" magazine then. :hmm:

eminem is the ONLY rapper, dead or alive, that can do a pop/bubble gum track and do a hardcore hip hop track - and have them both shoot to #1 on the charts.

then turn around and lyrically slaughter everybody in a cypher on just about any corner, in any hood america.

rakim, nor LL cool J can say this.

versatility, longevity, and quality of your work...Eminem is the GOAT. period.

now, how many of you are mad?

At least one of Eminem's albums has given validity that a white dude can be a superior rapper.

Again, because he is white.

I'm not taking anything away from Eminem talent wise, but because he is white gave him that exposure to the masses that allowed him to see such massive success.

It's not a level playing field...

Em''s music when he first dropped was being played on white radio stations, that would have never touched rap music before he came along.

Jay maintained commercial success for 15 years without the same privileges.

^^^ obama was on the cover of rolling stone 5 times in a year, none of you cats were screaming rolling stone was a "rock n roll" magazine then. :hmm: UMM... SORRY THE MAJORITY OF OUR ARGUMENT ISNT ABOUT THE "COVER"

eminem is the ONLY rapper, dead or alive, that can do a pop/bubble gum track and do a hardcore hip hop track - and have them both shoot to #1 on the charts.
WAYNE MAKES BETTER POP/BUBBLE GUM CLUB JOINTS THESE DAYS AND NONE HAVE SAID HE SHOULD BE CROWNED KING

then turn around and lyrically slaughter everybody in a cypher on just about any corner, in any hood america. U HAVE PROOF OF THIS?

rakim, nor LL cool J can say this.

versatility, longevity, and quality of your work...Eminem is the GOAT. period.

now, how many of you are mad?[/QUOTE

IM SORRY BUT THIS IS THE STOOPIDEST ARGUMENT ANYONE CAN EVER HAVE TO SUPPORT EM'S "KING OF HIPHOP" CROWN :smh::smh:

How can someone be king of anything without having influence?

He can have all the talent in the world, and be as versatile as he wants to be. Compared to the likes of Jay-Z, he simply doesn't matter. Period.

Now who's mad...

Exactly Hip Hop has to many styles and personalities to say one person is king. All you can say is these guys Em Jay-Z, Kanye, and Wayne or some of the top rapers but King no.

what does this even mean
- been involved with one of the greatest rap battles of all time: Takeover vs Ether
u dont get points for getting destroyed in a battle
- has the most #1 albums ever
100% meaningless
- Still sells at least 1.5 million copies of each solo album, he puts out
also 100% meaningless
- been the president of Def Jam
3rd on the meaningless list
- influence in hip hop, sets trends (button down shirts), kills trends (autotunes)
this the kinda shit grown men should keep to themselves
- the list goes on

Who did Em battle in his career...Britney Spears, Nick Cannon, Mariah Carey, Ja Rule after he got bodied by 50 cent?

C'mon now!!!! LMAO

u jay fans kill me
yall dont know the difference between marketing, good business moves an actually having talent as a rapper
