East Orange Jerz

:hmm:the orange report:
just came back a few hours ago...the condo was really nice, one bedroom, spacious, two bedroom spacious, great for showing off, and laying one's head. the prices are great can't find anything like this in ny (unless foreclosed, i'm guessing).
the neighborhood on the other hand, not too(o) bad. you got your "goonies" lurking like most of you described:smh:; grown-ass men on girl bikes:puke: w/ no business i'm guessing. young kids being kids, which no one can really get too mad/surprised at. you can't get caught slippn, the local police grilled me xtra hard w/ a welcome to the neighborhood grin (translation: i'm watchn you). also, one could tell that gentrification is on its way but when? a lot of new developments/nice sized homes are sprouting up but they're surrounded by slum-like, poorly maintained properties. :(
its a roll of the dice, can't call it...will take others advice: a) seeing the area at night b) checking other property in jerz
...thank you all for positive feedback, and i'm always willing/wanting to hear more. peace.

I had to come out of lurk mode for this dont mess with East orange irvington newark or any surrounding cities. Hillside Nj is ok very covinient since its right by rt 22 and the parkway.

bruh read the writing on the walls - if its all you can afford, you can't wait for the market to adjust and you're willing to deal with the pigs(hella nasty) and crime then have at it otherwise youre in for some shit

First, how much can you afford? Look into Society Hill in Jersey City. Prices are very reasonable over there. Prolly find something for 2-400K over there. Do a search for David Bartz a real estate guy.

I live in Droyers Point in a 2 BR townhome. I live on a river. We're getting a marina. Bus service to PATH. 2BRs run from $450-$525K 3 BRs from $600K - $750.

I'm about to move to E. Orange into my girl's townhome (for one year) I hate the neighborhood. She's in a new townhome development near the woodlands at upsala. It's on Carlton St. She bought a 3 BR 3 level townhome for $260K last year. We're hoping to sell for $400K next year. A lot of developments in the area and she bought at the offering price.

Looking to move to a community called Bel Air in West Orange next year. 3500 sq. ft. 3BR $750-950K

dayum i just read this thread today. i am from the area lived here most of my life. but there is so much good info already i dont have much to add. i guess i could put u on to some party spots or something. i guess u got all the info u need already. BGOL is tha shit!!

(was anybody at njpac on sat nite? see all them shorties? DAAAAMN!!)

thanks for all the advice:yes: you guys made me not even want to visit the condo
Here it is for those who asked: http://www.60parkwaydrive.com/?gclid=CNihhsfG2Y4CFQYjWAodRUFKAQ

is this area as bad as you say it is? I have an appointment at 1 but I rather not bother if E.O is a hell hole.
I love BK and truthfully (and it really isnt as bad as most think) I rather live here but the only neighborhoods I'm, interested in are park slope, prospect park, kensington, (maybe) clinton hill, marine park, etc. and those all seem to be out of my cash realm. Ideally under 400k would make me happy.
If anyone knows how to jump on these foreclosured spots:confused:, holla at me.
Again you dudes have been plenty helpful, enjoy your football:dance: today.

Brah... I grew up at 60 parkway drive when I was a kid in the early eighties when E.O. was the town to be for young black professinals.Back then that place used to be the shit, but the building was abandoned for years, and recently someone bought the building and decided to remodel it. Just based on recent history, I wouldn't do it, plus there's a lot of drugs in the surrounding areas. This is from people I know who still live in the area.

LOL @ East Orange. Newark as a whole is a shit hole. Why do that to yourself.

u know they purposely make they hoods looked as fucked up as possible in these videos. most of EO look more like suburbs.

...Take a Look at Maplewood or South Orange if your'e insterested in Essex County. Alot of folks that currently live there are from Brooklyn.

Let me give you some advice:

If your intention is to live somewhere where your value will increase, then I would say go to that development in East Orange or one in Newark.
You live in BK right? I don't know how long you've been there, but if you've been there more than 10 years, then you know how Fort Greene, Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights and Prospect Heights WERE opposed to how they are now.

Some folks are short-sighted. The only thing they see is what's in front of them. Clearly, the developers who put this building together are looking for commuters who want easy access into NY and surrounding NJ areas via the GSP.

I lived in Fort Greene from '95 to '02. That neighborhood was the best kept secret with large brownstones with easy access into the city using damn near every subway line that comes through BK.
Once the "gentrifiers" realized it, they came running. Those who owned rental properties got caked up and those who sold, got caked off.

I live in Jersey City now. I came as soon as I got priced out of BK. I bought low (2 family) and now I'm getting caked up, since I'm right of the PATH train and the Holland Tunnel.

If you're just trying to live (and not hang out in E. Orange)and want to make a return on your investment in a few years (it might take a minute), I would seriously consider that development.
Trust when I tell you, the gentrifiers are coming. They want to be closer to the city, not further away
.

Saved me alot of typing..
I lived in the area for about 7 years as a kid in the early eighties, and my mother recently moved back.
Crime has gone down considerably in the last 2 to 3 years.

If you have kids then forget about it..the schools suck.

Nice post here I was Born in Newark, live in East Orange, Raised
in Orange, left when i was 18 (to college) back then you could leave you door unlock.:):):) Then came the car-jackings, crack, etc.:(:(:(
Only go back to visited nowadays. Areas outside of E.O., Newark,
