E3 2016 | Electronic Entertainment Expo

The release month for the movie is July 2017 I can't remember any AAA game releasing in July being a hit. That why i said a month or two before. If it does release the same month as the movie, then you know this game will be trash just like the last spiderman game lol.

Exactly...

I'm gonna have faith in Insomniac. Someone has to break the bad Spidey game cycle. I'm just shocked at it being exclusive. There is money to be made with Spider-Man right now. Tons of it.
Now I need someone to actually tackle X-Men and Superman again. X-Men would be a dope ass MMO if someone really tried. I want a game where the X members matter for the particular situation.

E3 2016

"I expected more, at least to play some more...I was like c'mon man, I didn't come here to buy stuff"

E3 2016 has officially come to a close, and despite the fact that Activision and EA were absent from the show floor, my experience of the show was that it was actually quite vibrant and filled with plenty of intricate booth displays and compelling new games to play. The same cannot be said for the ESA's first ever public satellite event, E3 Live, which took place next door at the LA Live complex. The ESA managed to give away 20,000 tickets in the first 24 hours after announcing the show in late May. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for...

The fact that it was a free event, however, does not excuse just how poor this show really was. Fans were promised by ESA head Mike Gallagher in the show's initial announcement "the chance to test-drive exciting new games, interact with some of their favorite developers, and be among the first in the world to enjoy groundbreaking game experiences."

I spent maybe an hour there, and when I first arrived, I genuinely questioned whether I was in the right place. But to my disbelief, the small area (maybe the size of two tennis courts) was just filled with a few tents, barely any games, and a bunch of merchandise (t-shirts and the like) being marketed to attendees. The fans I spoke with felt like they had been duped. At least they didn't pay for their tickets...

The exhibitor map

"I'm a little disappointed," Malcolm commented. "We weren't exactly sure what it was going to be. We thought we were going to at least play some demos or something. There's not much [here], and I knew we weren't going to make it to the conferences, but I thought there would be more to interact with. It's free so I knew we wouldn't get much, but I was expecting something..."

"When we found out it was the first public event, we thought, 'Cool we can finally go to something E3 related' because we don't work for any of the companies and we're not exhibitors, and I was excited for that but then we got here and we were like 'Uh oh, is this it?' So we got worried and we're a little bit upset," he continued. Malcolm added that he thought it was going to be in one of the buildings right in the middle of the LA Live complex, rather than a siphoned off section outside with tents.

As I walked around, it was the same story from attendees. Jose, who came with his son, felt similarly to Malcolm. "It's not that big. I expected a lot of demos, but they only had the Lego Dimensions demo. I expected something bigger where we could play some of the big, upcoming titles. All it is is some demo area with Lego and some VR stuff," he told me.

700x-1

When I asked him if he got what he thought would be an E3 experience, he continued, "Not even close, this is really disappointing. It's really small and it's just here. I expected more, at least to play some more. And the VR, I'm not even interested in VR. Me and my son have an Xbox One and we wanted to play Battlefield 1 or Titanfall 2 and we didn't get that opportunity. I was like c'mon man, I didn't come here to buy stuff. I came here to enjoy games."

By cobbling together such a poor experience for gamers, while 50,000 people enjoy the real E3 next door, organizers risk turning off the very audience that they should be welcoming into the show with open arms. As the major publishers told me this week, E3 is in a transitional period and needs to put players first. That's why EA ultimately hosted its own event, EA Play. "We're hoping the industry will shift towards players. This is where everything begins and ends for all of us," said EA global publishing chief Laura Miele.

"This is really disappointing. It's really small and it's just here. I expected more, at least to play some more"

It seems like a no-brainer to start inviting the public, and that's what we all thought was happening with E3 Live, but in reality they were invited to an atmosphere and an "experience" - one that barely contained games. The good news, as the quickly sold out E3 Live tickets indicated, is that there is a big demand for a public event. And it shouldn't be very complicated to pull off. If the ESA sells tickets, rather than giving them away, they can generate a rather healthy revenue stream. Give fans an opportunity to check out the games for a couple days and let the real industry conduct its business on a separate 2-3 days. That way, the ESA will be serving both constituents and E3 will get a healthy boost. And beyond that, real professionals won't have to worry anymore about getting shoved or trampled, which nearly happened to me when a legion of frenzied gamers literally all started running into West Hall as the show floor opened at 10AM. Many of these people are clearly not qualified and yet E3 allows them to register. It's time to make E3 more public and more professional. It's your move ESA.

We asked the ESA to provide comment on the reception to E3 Live but have not received a response. We'll update this story if we get a statement.

The last really good Spiderman game was Web Of Shadows in 2008. Shattered Dimensions was ok but was a short beat over the weekend game. A sequel to the Wolverine Uncagged should have been made. I'm not a fan of those overhead camera view superhero games. I'll play Lego Marvel before I play those. Isn't Rocksteady rumoured to be working on a new super hero title.

Ok. So I was trying to watch what I could while I was at work last week, (and it took me a minute to find this thread), and sad to say most of the stuff I saw last week...I forgot about. I probably was more invested in the interviews than the games. And when it came to watching people play those games...meh.

Of course the new Zelda has me happy. The puzzles look harder, I just have to wonder what it will play like on the NX. I read some of y'alls comments on the fate of Nintendo...I hate to admit it but they just might go back to their roots. You see what they did with Pokemon...

Never really played God of War but why did I think this was a prequel? Mixed feelings.

There were a few blurbs of videos of games I felt like I wanted to play for fifteen minutes to give it a chance. And even though it was announced last year, I didn't see anything about it until last week - the new addition in the SaGa franchise, SaGa Scarlet Grace. Goodness knows though after the disappointment that is FF Type-0 I don't want to be suckered into buying a Vita. Please tell me this would be worth it.

Ok, so I'm watching the streams right? And I hear something like "the most creative mind in gaming" and I swear my ears just heard "kojima" like some whisper in a forest type shit. So I'm watching and I actually find myself getting excited it was dude. And that trailer...yeah it might be a trick, but as far as seeing something new...Kojima better bring it. More so after PD got shut down and SH was forced to stop. I don't even like Silent Hill or Resident Evil like that and I wanted to play. With the lights on. I guess the next year or so of theories will be interesting as more info comes out.
(Were those hand prints?)

Oh yeah, and I agree with Fils-Aime about VR not being accessible/mainstream. Nintendo is not going to make that mistake again and every time I see these contraptions all I can think about is VirtuaBoy. Samsung trying to get me telling me I can get the VR set for free if I buy a Galaxy. But the phone is what, $500? Am I getting a deal? The other versions aren't any better, and I don't think there is one less than $300. This might be the Neo Geo of this generation. I might be wrong...but I ask this. Why can't we just make good games? I remember when the console wars was in part about who has the best selection of games...that shit is out the window now. I don't care if this one exclusively plays 4K definition or if this is more powerful than the four hundred dollar paperweight I just bought not even a year ago. I don't care. Give me games. I'm not going to want to buy these ridiculous VR sets and I can only play two games on it. And I don't mean a game I can play on my PS4 but is compatible with the VR set. No point in me wasting money. I mean games...made...for THIS.

Can someone make an expo, where people announced games, announced partnerships, let people play demos, and then you release the demos tot the public when the expo is over? There was a lot of fluff this year. A lot. Dammit I miss EGM to filter through all this shit.

Well said. My issue with Nintendo is the specs comment. No Mario does not have to be made with the Unreal Engine but 3rd party developers need the specs. I am just not getting excited until I see if it is a gimmick or not.
And yes VR is a mistake right now for $400. Ridiculous for side story games like Batman and Until Dawn will be on it.
And the Resident Evil demo made me a believer somewhat. It's back to the basics. RE6 was a silly ass Michael Bay movie. Only Leon's campaign was decent.

Nintendo NX Reveal in September, Hardware Close to PS4 NEO in Power – Rumor

nintendo-nx.jpg
There is still not much known about the Nintendo NX, which is apparently due out in March 2017 worldwide. Nintendo are due to have their own event for the console later this year, where we will finally learn more about the enigmatic system, and exactly what it entails, but until then, any specific details regarding the system are thin on the ground.

But according to this new, highly detailed rumor by GameBlog.fr, Nintendo’s original strategy was not going to be this- the system was instead set for a November 2016 launch worldwide, and Nintendo had even committed to a massive publicity budget, before backing out abruptly at the last minute. True to what Nintendo said, the primary reason for this appears to have been games- Nintendo simply wanted to launch the system with a marketable launch lineup, something that the 3DS and Wii U both lacked, and were therefore willing to push the system into 2017 if necessary.

Among the games that were delayed, causing Nintendo to push the NX into next year, were three major third party games, including by Square Enix and Capcom. These two are apparently a part of an alliance of developers and publishers that Nintendo have formed as part of what is apparently internally being dubbed as ‘Operation Reconquer.’ Major third party games, including exclusives, are expected as a result of this strategy. Right now, Nintendo are expected to announce the NX in a major event in September, with a release in March 2017.

What Nintendo will not admit to is the PS4 Neo and Xbox One Scorpio both having thrown a wrench in their plans, as well, at least to an extent. Nintendo don’t want to release a system that is as utterly dwarfed by the competition as the Wii U was with the NX, especially since they are launching mid generation- so some tinkering of the specs has apparently also taken place, with the final system set to be close to the PS4 Neo in specs, but allegedly dwarfed by the Xbox One Scorpio.

Finally, the system will apparently allow eight native controllers to be connected to it at all times, which is a departure from the Wii U, which only allows for one primary controller (although a combination of up to eight controllers of multiple types can be connected to the Wii U as well, the only game to truly utilize this functionality was Super Smash Bros.). The system is therefore speculated to not have a controller like the Wii U, although GameBlog does note that the NX will apparently be ‘interesting and surprising.’ Apparently, developers, including European developers, are all rather positive on the NX.

Nintendo is interested in making it the cheapest machine on the market, but they will also apparently not discount it too heavily- which makes it sound like they are unwilling to take too much of a hit on the hardware.

All in all, this rumor sounds feasible, sensible, and believable to me- and in terms of what the NX is, it also sounds like it would be the best case scenario for Nintendo. Whether or not it is true remains to be seen- but for now, this rumor seems to paint a promising picture.
