Drone stans get in here

All weather. Waterproof. Submersible capture option. But 6gs :money:

Wet or dry, the HexH2O Pro v2 will fly
Scott Collie March 24, 2017

The waterproof HexH20 and its DJI controller

Drones are invaluable for photographers and filmmakers keen to capture the world from the skies, but their effectiveness is limited as soon as it starts raining. The HexH2O Pro v2 aims to improve on the all-weather versatility of its predecessor, offering better battery life and range than the outgoing HexH2O Pro.

When it comes to the all-important camera hardware, QuadH2O has turned to the best in the business. A 4K DJI X3 gimbal and camera sit below the rotors, wrapped in a bespoke waterproof housing. Video down-link is now handled by a DJI Lightbridge 2 system, for a range of 3.5 km (2.2 mi) using the DJI Go app and, thanks to a bigger battery, flight time has improved from 25 to 30 minutes.

Users are able to film in almost any weather, and can land their drone on the water for filming above or below the waterline. According to QuadH20, this versatility makes the HexH20 Pro V2 useful in a wide range of applications, from search-and-rescue operations to on-water industrial inspections, and even marine biology.

Although QuadH2O does build smaller, cheaper waterproof quadcopters, the company says there are a number of benefits to the six-rotor setup of the Hex. Perhaps most significantly, the extra propellors mean the drone can stay in the air if one fails – useful if you're on the edge of your range envelope, or shooting in hard-to-reach places.

When the time to pack up your HexH2O comes, the propellors can be removed and arms folded to fit into an optional travel case. A removable set of three-inch legs can be fitted for better ground clearance when landing in long grass, while buoyancy is provided by two (also removable) aids attached to the side of the waterproof case.

It might be versatile, but the Pro v2 doesn't come cheap. Prices start at US$6,449 – significantly more than the DJI Matrice Pro. Then again if you need to fly in any weather, that's probably a small price to pay.

DJI proposes electronic accountability for drones
Ben Coxworth March 27, 2017

The DJI Phantom 4

There may indeed be laws limiting the places in which aerial drones can be flown, but if someone sees a drone breaking one of those laws – particularly if it's from a distance – how do they know who's responsible? Drone manufacturer DJI has suggested a solution, in the form of what amounts to an "electronic license plate."

The idea is that all drones would come equipped with inexpensive radio equipment that transmits both their location and a user-specific identification code.

Although anyone utilizing the proper receiver could read and make note of that code, only officials such as police officers or aviation authorities could match it up to the specific user. In that way, the user's privacy would still be maintained, yet they would also be accountable for their actions.

It would be similar to the manner in which all cars currently have license plates, allowing laypeople to report traffic infractions without knowing the identity of the drivers.

DJI has prepared a white paper on the concept, which was presented to the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International last week

has anyone really tested the limits of their drone? i'm going to do it tomorrow with my phantom 3 advanced model since i'm not too worried if it never comes back, lol i want to see how far i can get with it.

One dude in Japan tried to do that distance wise and he did not account for the headwinds on the return trip. He almost lost his drone over a marshy area because his remaining battery life was only half of its potential capacity on the return trip. Dude was almost crying in his video.

DJI’s new Phantom 4 Advanced makes their lineup even more confusing

DJI has announced a new drone in the Phantom 4 lineup

The Phantom 4 Advanced will take the place of the regular old Phantom 4, which will be discontinued on April 30th when the new version launches. The new drone will cost $1,349 – $50 less than the original Phantom 4’s starting price.

The Phantom 4 Advanced will borrow a bunch of features from the Phantom 4 Pro, which remains on sale for $1,499.

Most notably, the new drone will take the same 1-inch, 20-megapixel sensor that the Pro has. This will let the drone capture 4K video at 60fps. It will also get the intelligent flight modes that the Phantom 4 Pro has which let you pre-program your drone to fly certain routes or follow you around.

What won’t it have? The Phantom 4 Advanced will still only have forward and downwards obstacle avoidance, unlike the Pro version’s backwards and side obstacle avoidance.

But besides that, there’s really not that big of a difference between the two.

It’s one of those things where it would make total sense to save $150 and get the advanced model (and maybe buy an extra battery with the savings). But it also kind of makes total sense to just spend an extra $150 and get the best of the best – especially when you’re already spending so much on a drone.

Essentially this new model makes it even more difficult to decide what to buy.

DJI has always approached their product lineup in this way, especially for the Phantom series. None of them are really that different (except for the old budget-conscious 3 series), and always end up being pretty similarly priced. If DJI ever reduced the Phantom 4 line to just one version not many people would probably care or notice.

Just look at GoPro – the company once sold six different cameras at once – and all of them essentially did the same thing. This led to confusion which probably hurt GoPro’s sales numbers in the long run. Now the company only sells 3 cameras in two body styles.

So DJI, just listen to GoPro CEO Nick Woodman: “When you give consumers too many choices, you confuse them, and they may end up buying nothing.

What DJI should have done is forgotten about this new advanced version and left the Phantom 4 on sale at a newly reduced price. Anyone who wanted the better camera would have just paid a few hundred dollars more for the Pro, and the majority of customers would be thrilled they are now able to get a Phantom 4. while saving a bunch of money in the process.

And to make your decision even more difficult, DJI will still sell the regular Phantom 4 for 3 more weeks for $1,199. So you essentially have 3 very, very similar drones to pick from all within a $300 price range. Good luck.

I'm in Mexico and I'm flying my Mavic, some dumbass on the beach (meat headed white boy) sees me coming in for a landing and attempts to throw towels at it to knock it out of the air.

A group of older crackers were around me asking questions (curious about it) and we all see the towels flying at the same time. So I'm like "Motherfucker what the FUCK ARE YOU DOING??!!!" asshole responds "It's annoying me!" So I'm like, "You going to destroy 1,000 dollars worth of equipment because you're annoyed???" I'm right here motherfucker if you want it down so you can go back to baking your white ass in the Sun, all you had to do was ask?"

Then the bitch ass white -boy runs to one the cabana boys pointing at me "Tell HIM TO TAKE IT DOWN!!" Security runs over and demand that I land and put it away.

Man I would have killed that motherfucker. And what's funny is dude was hardbody until he noticed the old white men, admiring the drone mean-mugging him too. Dude does a 180 and storms back to his lawn chair....

Man, I wanted to get into the drone game.

I dropped a meager $100 on a drone to decide if it was something I wanted to invest in.

I flew it a few times at a spacious park but not too high. I thought I had the handle on it.
I went to a more congested park on the last occasion and I was ready to get a little height.

Man, shit. It got height so fast with a wind. I panicked and tried to bring it down. I thought I was in front the tree. It resisted coming down quickly. Now it is a permanent tree ornament about 40 ft up there.

I envy yall drone kats.

I snuck my drone to St. Martin...first time flying over seas. This BECKY chick was shooting video on her jet ski but she was using the wrist strap go pro. Told her about my drone and that I can help her to capture better material...
if she could give me some ass .... just fucking around, I had my wife and kid with me. Now mind you I am a novice, and the person renting the jet skis knew it. He requested that he fly it for me to get BECKYS footage because
he is a professional....In my mind i was like fukouttahere, a part of me felt he might be good because he kept bragging about his videos. I allowed him to test it ...and he damn near flew the drone better than me.

This cat travels a lot with his drone we both have PHANTOM 3 PRO and his editing is done on MAC....this is one of his videos in ICELAND

you know the rule, post it:D

I saw that on you tube...he pushed it to the very end...their is a app called litchi. You can plan your flight....you will lose visual from the controller but the drone stay on it's programmed flight.

you can do that with the dji software even the phantom 3 models

I have been looking for the video... this guy had an extender that boost the signal...the distance was jaw dropping this was added hardware

Found something similar .....this was EXTREME LONG RANGE :smh::smh::smh:

Woulda ruined my vaca. :smh:

i wish i could get vertical like that. the max it will let you is 500 and legally 300

i'm going to post some vids tonite after i do some editing

Speaking of long range.:itsawrap:

@ this dude.

:roflmao:

Yeah, that was a couple of years ago on youtube. I cannot find it at the moment. Now YT is flooded with drone videos.

alot of rookie mistakes, lol

especially flying backwards and sideways and you don't have visibility of the area. i never fly between buildings, always over

Yeah, the dude who schooled me went to the top of a parking garage when he flew between buildings. He told me that you needed to see as much as possible in your flight path.

I do the backward shots a lot....when I do it I make sure nothing is in its path looks great when in post prod...but I learned to avoid flying fast....SLOW MOVEMENT!!!!
