Introduction
State Regulation of Private Schools provides a brief description for each state of state legal requirements that apply to K–12 private schools in the United States. This document is intended to serve as a reference for public and nonpublic school officials, state policy-makers, researchers, and others. This report is an update of the 2000 publication by the Office of Non-Public Education (ONPE), State Regulation of Private Schools, which in turn was an update of the 1993 publication by the (then) Office of Private Education, The Regulation of Private Schools in America: A State by State Analysis.

To ensure the accuracy of each state summary, ONPE first updated the information published in the 2000 report for that state, using information from the state’s Web site. Then, the update was submitted to appropriate state officials for their consideration, revision, and approval. The individuals in each state who reviewed these summaries were critical to ensure timely and accurate updates. ONPE appreciates their participation, cooperation, and expertise. The end of each chapter includes the date when the state last provided comment. As this report is an electronic publication, chapters will be revised and updated as new information becomes available from the states.

The report includes information in several areas of state regulation of private schools. The topics include: Accreditation/Registration/Licensing/Approval, Teacher Certification, Length of School Year/Days, Curriculum, Recordkeeping/Reports, Health and Safety Requirements, Transportation, Textbooks, Testing, Special Education, Nursing and Health, Technology, Professional Development, Reimbursement for Performing State/Local Functions, Tax Exemption, Public Aid for Private Education, Homeschooling, and Information Resources. Charts are included at the end of the state-by-state chapters that summarize key information from the report.

The contents illustrate the nation’s ability to approach similar areas of education in a variety of ways. Not one of the states regulates private schools in exactly the same way as another. Rather, the statutes reflect the unique circumstances, concerns, and policy perspectives in each state.

The goal of the ONPE in publishing this document is to provide concise summaries of relevant state laws in an accessible format. It is our hope that this report will serve the needs of state and federal legislators, public and private school administrators, and the general public.

This document is for informational purposes only. It creates no new rights or responsibilities. Nothing in this report reflects the position of the U.S. Department of Education as to the meaning or effect of any state legal requirement. Readers are encouraged to consult state constitutions and the full text of relevant case law, statutes, and regulations. This is why if he was serious, he would've attempted a charter school down the street from a neighborhood or within one to be close to those in need. Or an Afterschool program. My cousin has run one for 20 years - and.its IN THE HOOD. Students from it have gone on to graduate college and come back to teach in the program. Kids from other parts of the city catch rides to be a part of it because its SUCCESSFUL. And it's a 501C3 so all of the money is accounted for.

You know brothers, what ultimately is sad is that amongst these internet black conscious 'personalities' they have some of the key areas of human activity covered from a black American perspective:

Umar (education)
Boyce (economics)
Yvette (politics)
Tariq (entertainment)
TBA (economics & labor)

Problem is they can't get along with each other consistently or in some cases have contentious relationships with their audiences, which causes people to pick sides then start going at each other counterproductively.

All these people come with questions from the communities they serve:

Umar (non transparent about school status according to some)

Boyce (emotional, biased, not dealing with his team correctly on money)

Tariq (some say the black empowerment lane is just another hustle for the ultimate hustler and he's not as sincere as some would like)

Yvette (some say she is too negative and not a proponent of the do 4 self mantra)

TBA (some say he is a coward for never showing his face and constantly berating his fanbase on FB and his broadcast when he is disagreed with)

My point is that we could nitpick at all these people or we can embrace the positive things they have to offer, if TV One had built programming around all of the aforementioned in their particular realms of expertise, it would be great, but that will never happen because of the constant bickering

I just listen to these people on YouTube to glean the good things, but Claud Anderson is the true godbox, they all pretty much got their rhetoric from him anyways

Dr. Umar Johnson announced that he's under investigation over his psychology license after he was contacted by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs about the validity of his psychology license. Johnson posted the notice on his Twitter account and announced his "farewell tour."

He spoke more candidly on Instagram, writing, "Sometimes I ask myself why did I start this campaign, I'm ready to return all the donations and move to Afrika, in an effort to give our boys a school they deserve I've had countless coons consistently harass white people in the power structure until they've decided to strip me of my credentials, arrest my fund, and audit me. Hundreds of phone calls to my degree granting institutions harassing them about my credentials, the same questions over & over again on every radio show, countless social network jokes & campaigns to diminish the credibility of the one man Black parents can count on to assist for free with saving their children from the mental health & mis-education systems, this is the thanks I get for helping to save a generation of Black boys. On top of all the betrayals I've had my own father join in on the fun. This Kwanzaa tour will be my farewell conscious community tour for a while. I'm taking a break from social network as well. I have said the same thing about the other BGOL hero Tariq. Ran his course selling pimpology and now he is conscience.

Boyce isn't as blatant a fraud - based on everything I know about him, and in my personal opinion - so I think that is why I watch him more.

But, I still watch Umar and Polight, 'cause they are kind of entertaining, imo. Umar is far more polished than Polight, and speaks better than Boyce, but my experience has taught me, self-aggrandizement to that degree + lack of transparency is a 'house of cards'. That is not just about Umar, but people with that type of personality.

I think all of this shit comes down to people liking certain people's personality more than others.

I already know some people don't like Boyce, compared to the others, 'cause he is kind of Tyler Perry-ish. Some dudes refuse to respect dudes who don't have masculine, alpha personalities. I noticed some of the same people who like Umar also love Lavar Ball. This is not a coincidence. Same type of personality.

Private schools have to meet minimum state and federal guidelines but they have the freedom to teach what they want in addition too.

Private schools don't have to teach to tests because they take no government funding so they can concentrate on creative thinking. They can teach engineering and the sciences. They are free to set their class schedules and school schedules but there still is a minimum of class time.

But at the end of the day for a child graduating from that institution to be able to go on the higher education, they have to have already established minimums.

So private school can include and teadh things that won't be taught in public schools but they do have to meet certain state and federal regulations.

But the annuity shit got my antenna up because if anything should have been transparent, it should’ve been that. If it’s for profit, shouldn’t his supporters get some kickback or at least a tax break?

Keep in mind, Umar isn’t only a charismatic speaker in the conscious community but also a sex symbol to a lot of these conscious sistas and he knows this. This is why if he was serious, he would've attempted a charter school down the street from a neighborhood or within one to be close to those in need. Or an Afterschool program. My cousin has run one for 20 years - and.its IN THE HOOD. Students from it have gone on to graduate college and come back to teach in the program. Kids from other parts of the city catch rides to be a part of it because its SUCCESSFUL. And it's a 501C3 so all of the money is accounted for.
