There are many forms of war and not just military.
There are some good things that could happen along with that though.
A weaker US dollar would encourage more foreign investment. More companies would stay in the United States because it would now be cheaper to pay American workers. America would be able to bank the interest off these loans and put it back into the economy.
I grew up in Canada fifteen minutes from the US border. Most of my toys, school clothes, video games and the like came from the USA because it was cheaper to buy stuff there. At the time roughly $1 CND=$0.80 USD.
In the late 90's the Canadian dollar plummeted to $0.55 USD. All of a sudden everybody bought their stuff from Canadian retailers which boosted the local economy. Likewise, American exporters bought more from us because now their dollar went further. Vancouver suddenly developed the 4th largest movie making economy on the continent overnight because it was cheaper to pay the film crews. American tourism increased as well.
Some goods became more expensive, but for the most part $10 still bought whatever $10 used to buy. Most people's standard of living went up if anything.
