DMX or PAC

2Pacs though life persona DMX gritty image
Who yall think was it for real? Gotta go with X

Not denying Pac greatness but you hear that growl you know what time it is

They were both caricatures of the stereotypical angry, unstable, hypersexual, irrational Black male projected to the world. It's telling why they are so popular outside the US. It's what the world perceives American black men to be, and this view easily fit their racist narrative. Snoop included.

I mean, why isnt a Nas, Kendrick, Common, etc just as popular??

Having said that, they made great, earnest music. But the negative imagery they projected overrides everything imo.

Nas is way more reserved than both of them
Common isn’t really put out there as much, yes I know he’s done movies, he’s a 4 corner hustler,I get it. But when you think about rap, does common music come to mind?
It’s like Jamie Foxx and Tyrese being known more for movies than their music
I can’t explain how snoop got so popular/famous for the life of me
The man throws up Crip in everything he’s in, commercials, Olympics, etc and white folks love it

None And I mean NONE of the people you listed has the aura ,the I can’t put my finger on it, that Pac and X had
Why Jay bigger than Nas if Nas is better (arguably)
The music industry put Drake on a pedestal and he’s the complete opposite of Pac and X
X hated Drake

But I’m sure their story telling, being able to touch different subjects, presence, etc had nothing to do with their popularity in AND outside the US

Kanye was never any of those things when he first came out and he was the biggest rap star for a few years

No Diddy, Dwight Howard, Will Smith

But Pac was probably the biggest sex symbol on earth
Bigger than LL, the Rock, Denzel, etc Tupac in a business suit is a phrase for a reason
