Not to derail but i remember when they showed us roots in high school. I wanted to beat the fuck out of every white boy in the classroom when that shit was over. Every white person in the classroom looked uncomfortable as fuck when the lights got turned back on.

I remember when the mini series aired. I was in 3rd, and after the Kunta whipping scene, I went to school the next day and this white kid was getting that work! These 3 guys were wailing away, and he was screaming, "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" I was feeling some kinda way about that shit too, but that kid didn't deserve that beating. Luckily for him, there were teachers close by to limit the beat down. Some of the responses in this thread are interesting. The people asking about Inglorious Basterds dolls, already know the answer. Jews do not accept, nor tolerate stuff like that.

Bought versus escaped eliminates the white mans involvement in a vengeance movie. Whites are not as scared when they get a white man buying a slaves freedom, but its a totally different story if Django was to get his Nat Turner on.

I must admit that I did not see this coming. However, interesting to say the least.

Even though many may not agree, but all of the attention on this movie may actually get the history of our descendants as slaves out there not only to whites and non-blacks, but to the black youth of America. Many of them lack knowledge of their history.

This attention to the history of slaves in America, Jim Crow Laws, The Civil Rights Era, continued discrimination whether it be overt (as in the past) or covert (as it is today)...the truth needs to be told and factual data placed in the history books... and this may very well move the ball along.

this movie in no way denigrates the impact of slavery. not one bit. no one leaves this movie thinking slavery was no big deal. this movie was about 1 slave who able to get an obscene amount of retribution. that's it. there is no big conspiracy theory here. why is slavery off limits to movies? that shit is stupid.

i'm glad we as a community are having this discussion. its long overdue. i just think that if we want real equality in this society, that we will have to deal with subject matter publicly that makes us uncomfortable. and i don't think its a good idea to make the subject of slavery off limits to anyone except black people.

I'm not someone that cares excessively about use of ******, but in this movie it helps to illustrate my point of tarantino's intent and the fact that he knew better than to line step with jews but he had no problem doing a film that is offensive to many blacks.

The idea of a spaghetti western set in a slave plantation, should be offensive to every black american.
