Discussion: Queen Latifah, Stars in The Equalizer on CBS UPDATE: Chris Noth fired #metoo! CANCELED

Good luck. I won’t be watching. I don’t watch over the air network programming. That shit sucks. I sincerely hope though the Queen gets a few seasons and more. Then I hope it goes into syndication. More paper.

You don't watch it period or you don't watch it until it's available online? If its the latter, the first episode is already in the basement.

So who watched that shit?
I did it wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either most likely a 1 and done season. Dope to see Queen still doing her thing I’ll probably do one more ep for the culture but that about it
I liked it. I was worried how they were going to make realistic fight scenes at her size, but it wasn't bad, a lot of edits and different angles. Believeable enough.
The message about locking black girls up at the end wasn't overly preachy and fit in with the show. The girl she was helping was good. I think her daughter is the weakest character, but hopefully things smooth out as they get comfortable a few episodes in. I like her support team.

I'd give it 7.5/8 out of 10. I'll watch it again.
I agree with these. Great editing. Lol!!

The person who plays her daughter is a horrible actress.

The dynamic between her and the detective will be good tho.

They could have used the fact that she's older and heavier to give the character more depth and realism. But, nope, they have to have an invincible woman.

I'll watch a few more episodes to see how it plays out tho.

I have a feeling women are going to like this much more than the menfolk, but this was written by a man:

Stray observations
  • Queen Latifah is only the fifth Black woman to lead an hour long broadcast network drama series. She’s also 50 and sending suckers to nap land. It’s awesome.
  • Lorraine Toussaint plays Robyn’s Aunt Viola. Let’s hope she has more to do in future episodes.
  • I greatly appreciate that there was no woman in the refrigerator moment that inspired Robyn’s heroism. Jewel survives and Robyn even takes her to her college interview.
  • When Pruitt answers his phone with, “She dead?” and Robyn responds, “No, but she is pissed,” I pumped my fist.
  • The pilot boasts some great location filming and action set pieces, especially when Robyn takes out a police van and rescues Jewel.

- Props to Latifah - seasoned pro - Latifah received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. Latifah's work in music, film and television has earned her a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, a Golden Globe Award, three Screen Actors Guild Awards, two NAACP Image Awards, an Academy Award nomination and sales of over two million records.

- I thought Lorraine Toussaint was cast well too. Hopefully she's involved more in future episodes

- Enjoyed the scenes with McCall and Bishop (Chris Noth)

- Tory Kittles was good as Detective Dante - enjoyed his work on season 1 of True Detective too

- Interesting twist with the security camera footage at the start of the episode

- Liza Lapira is kind of cute - saw her previously in Don't Trust the B____ in Apartment 23 (series)

- Last saw Adam Goldberg in season 1 of Fargo

Let us know what you think overall when you check it out. Yeah - there was believable friendship chemistry there w/ Noth.

We enjoyed the scenes with Kittles. Good actor - here he is w/ McConaughey in True Detective ...

Hollywood: Women are equals and can fight
Court System: You hit a woman. You are evil to hurt someone weaker than you.

I know women cops her age. They aint chasing shit but the last girlfriend who fucked her over. Unless you show beating up her lover, that shit aint real. Cops are some of the worse domestic abusers and butch dykes are even worse than cops.

bottom line about it this show will go 1 season...i was watching this crap smh saying her old butt shouldn't be doing this at all. hot steaming garbage

Her character's voice didn't work for me at all. Might be minute to some, but it was enough for me to not give it a second watch.

Yeah I watched it....I never watch network TV but was watching the Superbowl and noticed it came on right after....I was washing dishes and shit so I left it playing and then came back...re-winded it, and played it again from the beginning so I could give it my full attention.

I didn't really have any interest in watching the shit but watched just to support Queen Latifah...it was aight. Her daughter on the show kinda resembles her and looks like she could be her daughter IRL...just hope she's not gonna be another typical, cliche, unlikable child character...

agree with your opinion about the last scene with the sistas at the prison....that was done well. I'll give it a chance

I try not to, but I tend to watch black and big girl projects with a more critical eye, because I know how we are judged and ridiculed. This was a project with both elements. I was basically on the lookout for cringe worthy stuff -- bad acting, awkward moments, unbelievable stuff, corny dialogue, stiff moments and movements. There was a tinge of stiffness, and not really stiff, just movements that were not totally smooth flowing, partly because of her size, but I didn't see anything that would cause this to be a guilty pleasure that I would be embarrassed to let people know I watch. The cast live tweeted with the show last night, but I didn't know that until well after the show was over.

Most pilots are a bit awkward until people get into the groove of things, but I detected very little that I would consider "off". This was just the first show, I hope things only get better. I've always liked Latifah, and it's good to see black actors getting work.

The show was decent. It just seemed to me it got too involved in the story line then gave you a cheap and quick ending. To save time for the message at the end I guess. Hated the daughter as most did. I would have liked to see the girl who was set up being the daughter. She did a good job.

I'll watch but I need more. Same as all the other shows.

I got no frame of reference to the original Equalizer, but the jury remains out on the fight choreography measures up to the movies. Denzel had that old man strength, economy of motion, fuck a nigga up quick kinda style and there were so many cuts in this Pilot episode's only fight scene it was hard to tell if it was really any good. Beyond that, it's a perfectly acceptable CBS paint-by-numbers procedural. Their biggest hurdle is gonna be racists harshly criticizing the show simply because it's a black woman in the lead and so far she ain't on no bedwench shit.

The only other thing that slightly bugs me is that Latifah seems to be playing a retired Army special ops/CIA agent and her best friend, Liza Lapira's character, is another special ops tier sniper. But I couldn't help but think, isn't the Army still a boys club when it comes to special operations? I can't quite see these two ladies being elite special operatives in today's military, but whatever, suspension of belief I guess.

EXCLUSIVE: CBSThe Equalizer, coming off its high-profile premiere after the Super Bowl, has suspended filming.
According to sources, a positive Covid-19 test result was produced yesterday as part of the show’s rigorous safety protocols. Immediate contact tracing began as outlined in the guidelines set by state/county and in the NBCU Production Playbook. Out of an abundance of caution, the production, based in New Jersey, has asked those in close contact with the impacted individual to self-isolate and paused filming.
I hear the situation is being closely monitored and it is unclear how long the temporary shutdown will last. For now, filming has been paused for a few days and the productions schedule is being adjusted to accommodate that.

The premiere of The Equalizer, headlined by Queen Latifah, attracted an audience of 20.4 million on Super Bowl Sunday. The series, whose filming also was impacted by the recent big snow storm, will move to its regular Sunday 8 PM slot this week.
Written by Andrew Marlowe & Terri Miller, The Equalizer stars Queen Latifah as an enigmatic figure who uses her extensive skills to help those with nowhere else to turn. This is a new take on the character played by Edward Woodward on the original series and by Denzel Washington in the movie franchise.
Marlowe and Miller executive produce alongside John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment; Debra Martin Chase of Martin Chase Productions; Richard Lindheim, co-creator of the original Equalizer TV series; as well as Queen Latifah and Shakim Compere of Flavor Unit. Universal TV produces in association with CBS Studios.
The cast also includes Chris Noth, Lorraine Toussaint, Tory Kittles, Adam Goldberg, Liza Lapira and Laya DeLeon Hayes.

the only thing i liked about the original equalizer was its cool theme song
never invested in the characters or storyline

i'll watch the pilot before i gave my opinion of this series

It was ok. has that dry been there done that feel with bad editing.I guess it will make great background noise when im doing chores and taking care of things online.

Queen Latifah kicked down the door and showed us her vigilante side with the premiere of The Equalizer on CBS. The crime drama debuted after the Super Bowl last week, but this past Sunday marked its time slot premiere. The series delivered a 0.9 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic and netted 7.98 million viewers.

The network also scored in viewership with 60 Minutes drawing the largest audience of the night with 9.06 million viewers while delivering a 0.7 in the demo. The evening wrapped with a new episode of NCIS: Los Angeles, which ticked up to a 0.7 in the demo and 5.92 million viewers while NCIS: New Orleans nearly matched numbers for its January 17 episode with a 0.5 in the demo and 4.93 million viewers.

Season 19 of American Idol kicked off and led the night in the demo with a 1.1 rating and 6.69 million viewers. This is up a tenth from its season 18 finale in May but down in viewership. ABC’s night also gave us a new episode of America’s Funniest Home Videos (0.8, 5.70M) and The Rookie (0.6, 3.89M) with the latter climbing two-tenths in the demo.

At the CW new episode of Batwoman (0.1, 507,000) took a one-tenth dip in the demo and matched series lows. Charmed (0.1, 371,000) held steady in the demo but hit an audience low.

NBC’s night included repeats of Weakest Link and The Wall, ending the night with a special honoring the Grand Ole Opry (0.3, 2.77M).
Fox’s NASCAR’s Daytona 500 was delayed due to the weather, pre-empting the network’s Sunday night lineup. Reliable numbers are expected later today.

man stop with this rating stuff.this show is trash bottom line about it. the acting is bad except for the black cop, the story line is bad, queens is really bad with everything she do on the show.lol at her punching the bag with like 50 screen changes lol i mean every episode will be the same formula just different people and in the middle of the season queen l will get kidnapped and the computer and his wife will have to find them watch....this show will only go 1 season......nothing about this show is believable.. shes in New York and getting to all these places all fast i mean her and Tyriq uses the same jumper skills the way they move through new york.lol
