Discussion: Queen Latifah, Stars in The Equalizer on CBS UPDATE: Chris Noth fired #metoo! CANCELED

Yeah, my pops is a fan of the original and the Denzel ones. Problem is that old Equalizer wouldn't work today. Denzel was able to supplement his fight scenes with somewhat believable sequences. I don't think he had any fight scenes with Navy Seals and brolic cats, just the occasional frat boy and Wall Street banker.

Agreed, but i think its how its written to make u see the main actor in these positions. So it will be interesting to see if she fits the build...

Good luck. I won’t be watching. I don’t watch over the air network programming. That shit sucks. I sincerely hope though the Queen gets a few seasons and more. Then I hope it goes into syndication. More paper.

Can't see her fighting or running. If its more of a detective type show then I would give it a shot. But they must of put some money in it to get a spot after the Super Bowl.

Tom Welling(Smallville) should play the tv role or find a athletic young woman. If its successful and on for another 5 years no one wants to see a 55 year old Latifah fighting. Unless she passes it on to her kid.

i like to know how will this show affect denzel's movies? they made a decent amount of money.

sounds like they be making a equalizer-verse like they tried to do with limitless
goddamn marvel movies got everyone thinking every story has to be interlinked in some way.... :smh:

once upon a time you could make a story with a character then years later make a DIFFERENT story with someone else playing a variation on the same character and it was understood it was reimagining that has nothing to do with the previous story.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

there is no equalizer-verse its just a reboot of the story with another actor playing the central character.

I did like them and he was stiff in some scenes. I actually though the second one was going to be Denzel training that young kid to take over. But that didn't happen.

But I understand what you are saying.

Is she the best rapper turned actor?
Been doing it since Juice.
Its a interesting list for sure....off the top I'd think it would have to be her or Will.....

Will Smith
Ice Cube
Ice T
Maharshala Ali
Mos Def(I think he might've been a actor first if I'm not mistaken).
2 Pac
Treach
Snoop...

that not what i asked. i want to know if denzel is going to make more equalizer movies or is he just two movies and done?

Queen Latifah has a natural warm and motherly energy.

The equalizer is typically cold and calculated.

Doesn't fit.

So....
There's a Black, lesbian Batwoman now:

And..
There's the Black, lesbian superhero Thunder in Black Lightning.

And now.
There's a Black, lesbian (has not officially come out) Equalizer now too...

Am I the only one here seeing a particular pattern being pushed from Hollyweird, with regards to the "strong, Black woman" trope these days?
:puzzled:

Well, I won't be watching either show but, I DO wish them all great success.

Queen Latifah is committed to The Equalizer for the long haul

Queen Latifah couldn't have said yes to starring on CBS' righteous crime drama The Equalizer any faster. Not only has the 50-year-old multihyphenate wanted more action-oriented roles since 1996's Set It Off, but the character of Robyn McCall — a woman who stands up for the little guy — resonated with her on a personal level. It tapped into the strong sense of justice she developed from being bullied as a child and having a father and brother who were police officers in their New Jersey community.

"Seeing those things in front of you and then having a role offered to you that almost mirrors what your life is like and what made you who you are, it was a no-brainer," says the Academy Award nominee, who also serves as executive producer. "Maybe I said yes a little too soon, because I don't have the same knees I did when I was 25. But my heart is in the right place."

A gender-flipped take on both the 1980s TV drama starring Edward Woodward and the Denzel Washington-led film series of the same name, The Equalizer follows Latifah's disillusioned former CIA operative as she uses her very particular set of skills to defend the downtrodden. Along the way, she teams up with martial-arts expert Melody "Mel" Bayani (Liza Lapira) and hacker Harry Keshegian (Adam Goldberg). "We'll deal with the issues of sex trafficking, of young people being denied opportunities or having to work twice as hard as someone who may come from a wealthy family. We'll also see how people use their power in malicious ways," says Latifah. "Robyn is there to right those wrongs." And, lest we forget, kick ass while doing so. "Last night we had an incredible fight sequence that required me to disarm several people and get them to the ground in probably 30 seconds," she says. "It was a lot of fun!"

Beyond the thrills, Latifah was particularly interested in exploring Robyn's home life with her 15-year-old daughter, Delilah (Laya DeLeon Hayes), who is unaware of her mother's job. "My mom and I went through all kinds of things during those teenage years," she says. "And here's someone who is so good at what she does professionally, but she is going to get all she can handle personally. I want to play all those things [and] see what that relationship is like and how it grows."

While she remains in demand as a star and a producer, Queen Latifah is committed to The Equalizer for the long haul. "The world needs to see a little justice for a while," says the actress, who is grateful for the show's post–Super Bowl premiere slot. "I think it is going to be something people are going to enjoy seeing for no less than five years. And I'm up for it."

The Equalizer debuts Sunday after Super Bowl LV, and will air on Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT thereafter, on CBS.

technically they did that very thing with Person of Interest.

I did it wasn’t terrible but wasn’t good either most likely a 1 and done season. Dope to see Queen still doing her thing I’ll probably do one more ep for the culture but that about it

So who watched that shit?

I liked it. I was worried how they were going to make realistic fight scenes at her size, but it wasn't bad, a lot of edits and different angles. Believeable enough.
The message about locking black girls up at the end wasn't overly preachy and fit in with the show. The girl she was helping was good. I think her daughter is the weakest character, but hopefully things smooth out as they get comfortable a few episodes in. I like her support team.

I'd give it 7.5/8 out of 10. I'll watch it again.
