sorry to hear all that man...

damn we gotta do better y'all too many folks on here stricken with that disease.....

for the brothas who dont go to the DOC what were your symptoms??

I was drinking a 5th of Jack every other day and felt sluggish and pissed all the time. I went to an urgent care center and they told me my sugar was up so I stopped immediately and felt better.

This is a broad question. The most important thing is to get your diet in check. Diet and exercise is usually the first place to start. If you are overweight you need to drop the pounds. It may take only 5 to 10 pounds to improve your control.

Get a decent glucometer and use it frequently.

Pass out some details and and we can supply some details to help you along.

Damn, I'm really sorry to hear that.

How old are you if you dont mind me asking?

I was diagnosed 5 years ago, stay off the liquor period, eat plenty of veggies and exercise. If you have Type II it can be beaten.

Good Look Fellas

I'm 27 6'3 350. I did take insulin while in the hospital but not at home. I have to lose the weight. The reason i went into the hospital, cause there cellulitis on the back of my leg that was making me limp.

Can type 2 be reversed? I havent gone to the doctor, but im def thirsty, tired, and pee alot, although I havent lost weight, ive gained weight. In the last few weeks I started to run 2-4 miles a day, and have been eating muhc better, and am already feeling almost totally different.

I think what really fucked me up was my heavy drinking. I partied for 3-4 years straight, doing nothing but drinking my ass off 3-4 times a week. Ive cut back ALOT of alcohol, but I still drink once in a while.

stay away from white foods:
sugar, flour, white bread, excess starch, and alcohol

eat more whole grains, and excersice... stay on top of it, pleanty of info fam. stay up!!!

Join the American Diabetes Association (ADA)and their forum. They have a wealth of information on Type I and Type II Diabetics. The site also report on events in, around, or close to you. Attend them for more information. I had attended a support group back in Columbia, Maryland once a month. It was for seniors (I was 35 at the time) but I learn so much from them on how to live with diabetes. Didn't understand this at first when I was young but You need to listen to your body. The more you read up on Diabetes from sites like the ADA or search for different forum sites like Sweetblood. The more you will understand your body symptoms for high or low blood sugar levels and how to deal with the ups and downs. AND there will be up & down days.

Don't do anything drastic. You gotta make small changes at first. Toss out all of your sugar and get splenda. Start reading labels and stay away from "High Fructose Corn Syrup"--it's in everything, including some ketchup, most juices, some peanut butter, etc. Look for your local Whole Foods or Wild Oats or anywhere you can get things like whole grain pasta and breads. Leave potatoes alone. LEAVE FRIED FOODS ALONE!! Go for grilled if you must eat out. Leave the fast food alone and order from real restaurants with non-processed ingredients.

Start drinking water, take fiber pills or get the fiber that you can mix into your drinks & water, and most importantly START WALKING. Park farther away in parking lots, take a flight of stairs, walk around the block. Do more and more as you get used to it.

I think you are young, so you might be able to beat this without any meds.

Yup it can be reversed if it hasn't gotten out of hand (like you don't have tingling numb fingers/toes, vision changes, etc). You started working out heavily, but are you eating enough small meals throughout the day?

Good Look to ALL

Yall have given me a lot of info. prayers and Inspiration to beat this disease and get my health in order.

Love is Love

I was diagnosed about three years ago. Type II. Same symptoms. I was tired and peeing a lot. Gotta lose that weight and lower your carb intake especially sugar carbs like the brothers said above. Get the bread, starches, candies, regular sodas out. I was having a Mountain Dew and one of those fruit pies every morning which contributed to mine plus it ran on my old man's side of the fam. You can "live" with this. Keep an eye on you blood sugar regularly and you'll be fine. And let me tell ya. I keeps and eye on mine. Three years and the johnson works just fine!! Sendin up prayers for ya bruh!!!

curious what sugar number level is considered diabetic?
Bigmario23: It aint the number. For Type II it's when you drink a regular soda or eat french fries your blood sugar goes up naturally and if you body's insulin can't get that blood sugar back down to normal levels then you may be diabetic. Hope that helps.

im diabetic as well, it was on both sides of my family so i was bound to get it........you need to get at least 30 mins exercise in of cardio (treadmill, elliptical, etc).... make sure you get some diet sodas (no sugar), or vitamin water (very low in sugar).. no white bread, all whole grain wheat bread... also if you are going to fry (which i highly suggest you dont) make sure its olive oil.... all that smoking, drinking has to be in moderation.....that means not every day....possibly every weekend or 2weeks....

Much love and blessings to the Cats givin that good advice. There are some others including hard2xplain that are going to benefit from this thread and may save their lives...

Didn't mean to get too deep on ya but yall know this one is serious for the brothers and sisters out there...

stay away from diet sodas they are worse than the regular! matter of fact no sodas, period!

well man like everyone else says exercise drink water stay away from bleached flours stick to wheat eat veggies and fruits and chiropractic care trust me on this one

i found out i had it bout 6 years ago. its not a big deal unless u using the needle. i take the pills,so i jus watch my food intake and check it once a week. to me it helps u eat better and keep u in check wit that fast food shit.

fiber really helps keep your sugar down. gram crackers wit low sugar is always good or raisin brand wit splenda...splenda is a good sugar substitute.
