maybe other people had their hair and makeup included?
maybe other people who hosted didn't have the same level of celeb status she has?
maybe whoever she dealt with tried to treat her as if they were doing her the favor rather than trying to capitalize on her celebrity status?
she's not a newby..she's paid enough dues at this point in her career where hair and make up and basic accommodations shouldn't be an issue when someone asks her to come to their event and WORK..

Bruh, I remember Russ Parr had a summer concert series every year. Artists were lining up to perform for free and other artists were trying to pay to get on the stage. Cats don’t understand how the fame/game works.

During an interview with Variety, the "Girls Trip" star also said that her hair and makeup expenses would not be covered either. "All of that would have to come out of my pocket," she said. "I was like, 'The exposure is amazing, but I think I have enough. I appreciate you guys asking.' And as much as I appreciate the honor of being nominated, that's not OK."
Haddish, who is nominated for her second Grammy this year for the best comedy album, continued: "I don't know if this might mean I might not get nominated ever again, but I think it's disrespectful."

She later added: "This is something that needs to be addressed. How many other people have they done that to? It's like a guy asking you on a date, but telling you that you have to pay for it."
Originally a representative for the Recording Academy told Variety that all talent traditionally performs for free.
But later in a video posted to Instagram, the Academy's interim President Harvey Mason Jr. apologized to Haddish, saying that the offer was "disrespectful."
"It's just been brought to my attention that the Recording Academy invited Tiffany Haddish to host this year's premiere ceremony," he began. "Unfortunately and without me knowing, the talent booker working for the Academy told Ms. Haddish that we wouldn't even cover her costs while she hosted this event."
"To me that was wrong. I'm frustrated by that decision," he admitted. "It was a lapse in judgment. It was in poor taste and it's disrespectful."
This is just the latest controversy to hit this year's Grammy Awards. Earlier this month, several artists questioned the relevance of the Academy after The Weeknd was completely shut out of the nominations.
The Weeknd, who became the first artist to top all five of Billboard's top charts with his album "After Hours," responded to the nominations with a series of tweets in which he said: "The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans, and the industry transparency."
Rapper Drake agreed with many critics, saying that there is a "disconnect between impactful music and these awards," and it was time to "start something new."
The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on January 31, 2021. They'll air live on CBS.

Sound guys get paid. Light guys get paid. If they do it right, they get more than the artist.

If you have a singer perform they pay for their own stage production, so therefore they would pay the crew etc.

The venue controls. You can't come into certain venues with chitlin circuit production. The Summer Jams have very strict production requirements. It's a given that there will be a new nigga next year on stage, but there will be no reverbs on the sound.

it wasn't about paying her it was about her accommodations to do the job..
if someone asks you to do whatever usually they provide transportation, food lodging etc so all you have to do is show up and do the JOB they asked you to do..
in this case she was told to provide her own hair and make up etc for the position. When she questioned it they told her its a volunteer thing done for a not for profit organization that could be used to boost her exposure.she said I got enough exposure thanks but no thanks.

You are right. On the music side, the record labels pay. It is a promotional expense. Of course, the labels also try to find branding partners to offset the costs. Everyone else gets paid, except the artists, the artists usually receive a big bump in new sales, catalog sales, etc. How it works for movie stars, I am not sure. All musicians get union scale pay to play on tv. Not major $$ but a few bucks. All the sound, lighting, dancers, etc. people get paid as well.
When the label "pays" it is the artist that is paying.

Now if you are an artist with a positive outlook you know all publicity is good publicity and you could do a show or 2 and recoup.

Dude pretty much said he was unaware of the policy.. so it wasn’t the awards fault it was his fault for bookin her without knowing the policy.. she wanted something that no other people get.. grammys stuck to their guns, the unaware dude think the policy is wrong but it’s how it’s been ran for yrs and tiff expected more but it wasn’t gonna happen
