With the GSM version of the iPhone having received considerable attention for issues with loss of cellular signal when held in a "death grip" position, observers have been interested to see whether a similar issue affects the Verizon iPhone with its modified antenna design.

iLounge reports that not only has it been able to demonstrate loss of cellular signal strength with the same "death grip", but it has also been able to hamper Wi-Fi reception by subjecting the device to a grip dubbed the "death hug".As seen in this Verizon iPhone 4 antenna attenuation video, the CDMA iPhone 4 can still lose substantial cellular signal strength when held in the prior "death grip" position, as well as Wi-Fi signal when held in a different position, in each case noticeably slowing or completely stalling the reception of data.

The problem with Wi-Fi reception appears when the device is held snugly in landscape orientation with two hands. Prior to the Verizon iPhone 4's launch, sources told iLounge to be on the lookout for the issue, which was being referred to as the 'death hug."
It's not clear if such a "death hug" is of any practical concern.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs famously referred to the antenna problems with the original iPhone 4 as a "non issue", telling a customer to simply "avoid holding it in that way".

All phones do suffer from some attenuation when gripped tightly in certain ways, a phenomenon caused by the human body's natural ability to absorb signals in the range used for cellular and wireless networks. Critics of the iPhone 4, however, argued that the effect was seen by some simply by bridging the iPhone 4's antenna with your hand. The video makes no effort to see if this antenna bridging remains a factor on the Verizon iPhone 4.

Damn Steve

Apple probably makes a million dollars a year just selling products to people trying to find something wrong with them.

If anybody already pre-ordered the phone just get a Element Case Vapor 4 and your problems will be solved, there only 1 catch it cost $80.00 but it's a good investment if you like the Iphone

That big piece of shit looking calculator?

That has a signal and does so many awesome things ...My Incredible has no reception issues either. I love when my iPhone co workers have to go outside to talk on the phone or ask me to enable my free wi fi tethering so they can surf the net inside on my full signal 3G.:yes::yes:

That big piece of shit looking calculator?

did you just call the evo a calculator?

well, having used both...i'd have to call the evo a phone on which you can use applications and the iphone a device on which you can use applications.

....and the iphone will still outsell every other smartphone on the Verizon network.

htc thunderbolt 29.99 4G speed voice over 3G cdma while on data and free 4G hotspot

verizon iphone 29.99 3G speeds no voice over cdma and 20 bucks additional for hotspot

verizon iphone is the ultimate example of sheeple... hell all iphones r. sheeple will always outspend non-sheeple and we'll enjoy the perks where y'all will act like its not important until lord jobs gives it to u then y'all will act like its the best invention ever.

the thunderbolt with its free 4G and voice over cdma while on data(a first on verizon) might dent the mighty iphone numbers since android already is since the i4 did not increase apple's market share.

please continue to outsell everyone so we android users can get better devices from hungry companies...

Why do people even waste their time doing those kinds of experiments? The world's iSheep are going to do precisely what Steve Jobs orders them to do regardless.

still Verizons best selling phone. :D

all jokes/ jabs aside... it sucks that after all this time they havent figured that simple shit out though.

you cant hold the phone in landscape without killing your wifi signal? that seems so basic of a problem to fix.

yeah basically. ninja can release a laptop with spyware, worms and every hazardous thing for a computer and people will still go out and buy it.:smh::smh:

"Death Grip", "Death Hug"... these mofos need to get a life. No one picks up their phone and says "I'm going to grip it like specifically like this".

Now some no life having mofo is going to put a headlock on a EVO or DRIOD and post a dumbass youtube video.

How many units did they sell?

Because there is no issue.. don't squeeze your phone. No one I know with an iPhone has antennae issues.

laptops and pcs do not come with spywate, worms etc preloaded.

stop it.

and i havent had a problem with viruses, worms, etc in 8 years.

Because there is no issue.. don't squeeze your phone. No one I know with an iPhone has antennae issues.

what im saying is most phones dont stop working depending on how you hold them. there is an issue with the iphone that should be easy to solve. fix the fucking iphone antenna. they've had how long to get that shit resolved?

How many units did they sell?

not out yet got pushed back by verizon b/c they r worried when iphone 4 buyers hear/see the features and see the iphone 4 doesn't have that they'll return the iphone 4 for a thunderbolt. so it was pushed back until after the return date has passed.
so obviously verizon feels it could take iphone 4 numbers and so not upset lord jobs they pushed it back. kinda sucks but hey vzw is a business and iphone buyers tend to be suckers whenever new iphones come out might as well take their money then release a better model weeks/months later.
funny thing is the cdma iphone 4 has a gsm processor as well and can support voice over cdma but apple crippled those functions on vzw... but the iphone 5 will be a world phone with a dual core.

i wonder should i get an iphone
my android doesn't have an app for that shit

let me look
nope no app for being a piece of shit
maybe that can be the first one I create
