Dear Jets: Get Vince Young!!

The Jets have the 5 pick in the draft. Although things can change as far as teams trading down and needs, if things go the way these pre-draft predictions go and he comes out of school early, the Jets should get him. Plus he would be the best available player. But I did see that kid DeAngelo Williams from Memphis when they played in that bowl game. He looked unstopable.

Damn this year's draft board doesn't look too impressive, aside from those top 3 and select others. I'd have to see how the personal workouts go. Type of numbers others put up..etc.. But I have to see how Vince plays against USC, which will have some NFL defensive input via Pete Caroll. I don't know if the jets should pick him b/c his forte is running and all that running doesn't always work in the NFL (exception:Vick, Cunningham, Young). I don't like his throwing motion but the biggest question mark might be his ability to read defense. Ohio State lost b/c of coach Tressell fucking up with that QB rotation...

Getting Vince Young (or Reggie Bush for that matter), will not make
any difference until the Jets develop an offensive line to block for them.
You can have Johnny Unitas and Jim Brown in your backfield, but it
won't make any difference if you have inferior lineman up front

Herm Edwards did a good job as the coach, but he made one fatal
mistake (not bad for his first coaching job), he basically inherited the
OL that Bill Parcells had built back during his stay as coach and never
really developed any new talent there. The foundation of the line was
built around Kevin Mawae, whose is still a viable player, but his All pro
days maybe behind him and injuries are starting to mount for him.....
He was the anchor of that line. If he fell, the rest fell behind him

Then GM Terry Bradway did NOT help the situation, by letting both
Randy Thomas AND Kareem McKenzie (both black) walk away and
replacing them with cannon fodder. Herm should've pitched a bitch
right then and there for more help.....Plus Jason Fabini was basically
a Bill Parcells project to begin with. Take away Parcells and you take
away Fabini's drive and motivation. Sort of like Jumbo Elliott. Whose
career came to a screeching halt the minute Parcells left the Jets

So The offensive line had been deteriorating for about two years
now and this year it simply blew up in their faces....No time or picks
were invested at all. Just free agent pickups and low draft picks
It's why I never got too excited about their chances in the first place
It was almost a given that Pennington (who is a brittle dude), would
get injured behind that line. Didn't think that it would implode that
quickly but it was sure to happen. Especially if Mawae got hurt

Anyway, Vince Young would be a nice addition. Fat chance of a NY team
having a black coach AND a black QB. But I'd rather see him go to a
place where he won't get killed when he drops back to pass and will
get a decent shot to develop too.

He'll almost have to be like the coach in Remember The Titans, where
he had to win every game to keep his job. Vince could flourish in the
NFL, but I would want to make sure that line is back on point first

Man, should he decide to come out Young may have played himself into a top 5 pick. I would rank him right up there with Bush, Leinart (cant discount his career numbers) and A.J. Hawk (best LB in draft). He definitely had a coming out part on the biggest stage tonight!!!

Yeah, the way ESPN is pushing his name, you'd think he was gonna
be the number 1 pick now...I'm starting to get kinda suspicious about
them and their motives.....

Why are they constantly pushing these underclassmen to graduate
early?? Their hype and hoopla over Reggie Bush may have very well
made the guy decide to come out early too

Yea they're getting a bit extra with all this shit. Worst case of bandwagon reversal I've seen. 2days ago it was Bush this Bush that, Leihnart here n there, now its' Vince here, and if and when.. I think it's in the athlete's best interest to come out early if the money troubles are there, specially if they've achieved everything posssible b/c they can get hurt the following yr while they're playing collegiate ball. But they don't need ESPN absent advisors N supporters in making that decision.

amazing thread :) 1st, I thought USC would take the game. After watching Vince's performance as well as their 'D', they DESERVED IT. It was a helluva finish. and YES Vince's stock rose, but will he get a fair shot @ QB? 2 of the worst teams (HOU & SF) don't need a QB in spite of their recs....Jets need one but fukk 'em if they let Herm move to KC...yeah you know Herm - the Great Eagles DB, miracle in the meadowlands, etc....

It really doesn't matter, seeing that he said after the game that he is coming back next year for another championship. But best believe next year, he will be the No.1 pick

Now he's said that he's going to talk with his family and coaches (including pre-draft advisors) and try to make the most informed decision he can. Normally when we have these discussions I am soooo anti-early entry... but being that he would be a 5th year senior, I am leery of watching Vince play on the college level next year....

lol, you had to bring that up...Now I don't want the mofo (Herm) to stay
If it's a matter of money, Vince will never be as hot as he is right now
I am dead set against early entries myself, but not in this case....for one
thing, Young is over 20 already, he's more than halfway towards his
college degree (and he'd better get it), and if you listen to the man, you
can easily tell he's been raised with an even temperment. That will take
him a long way in this life. No matter what he does.....

Doesn't matter for the Jets though. We will be picking 4th and he's gonna
go 3rd or higher. But I can live with the OT from Virginia. It's what we need
anyway

You right though. If Vince Young make it official, he'll go to the N.O. Saints. That kid D'Brickashaw Ferguson is highly touted. Next season the Jets will have Curtis Martin back as well as Houston and Blaylock. But it will be tempting to take a running back anyway. If Vince stays in school, then I think N.O. would take Ferguson and leave the Jets in a position to take the next available OT/OL, rade down or take a running back in D'angelo Williams or LenDale White who stock has soared after the Rose Bowl.

AP is reporting that Vince has declared for the draft. This is one of the rare occasions when I actually agree with that decision

Also, Herm is only worth a 4th round pick? Sheeesh

Don't think Vince is going to slip to #5 pick.

I predict him going #3 to the Titans. Work under the apprentiship of Steve McNair. Then take over the starting duties the following year.
