DC Comics to Lower Prices

Beginning January 2011, DC Comics will implement a line-wide pricing adjustment, lowering the prices of all standard length 32-page ongoing comic book titles currently priced at $3.99 to $2.99, it was announced today by DC Comics Co-Publishers Jim Lee and Dan DiDio.

"Today's announcement re-affirms DC Comics' commitment to both our core fans and to comic book store retailers," said Jim Lee, DC Comics Co-Publisher. "For the long term health of the industry, we are willing to take a financial risk so that readers who love our medium do not abandon the art form."

"As Co-Publishers, we listened to our fans and to our partners in the retail community who told us that a $3.99 price point for 32 pages was too expensive. Fans were becoming increasingly reluctant to sample new titles and long term fans were beginning to abandon titles and characters that they'd collected for years." said Dan DiDio, DC Comics Co-Publisher. "We needed a progressive pricing strategy that supports our existing business model and, more importantly, allows this creative industry to thrive for years to come. With the exceptions of oversized comic books, like annuals and specials, we are committed to a $2.99 price point."

You guys thought I was fucking around? A lot of stores said that Blackest Night to Brightest Day transition saw a great decrease in DC sales.

A lot of long time DC cats were telling their stores to STOP pulling the titles all together.

Not sure this is going to help but expect Marvel to follow suit.

Wow comic books are 4 bucks per book!!!!!
That cheap hobbies is long gone I see, even at 3 buck per book is too much.
Back in the days when I collected $20 was enough to buy almost every comic that came out that week. Now that same $20 will only cover 3-6 book!?!?!

$20 bucks every book puts you back in 1969 to 1973...after that the indie scene blew up big and you would have needed $55 to $80 a month to buy every book that came out.

Prices have been high for a bit which is why I limit what I actually purchase to books that I want to pass on and/or books that I know will flip.

If all you are doing is dl or buying digital books that it does not matter but digital prices should fall in order to compete against the pirate market.

To this day TWD is a great book to flip - Buy @ 2.99 catch the late crowd with a $5 to $7 flip - Put the $2.99 to the side for next pick up - Pocket the profit.

Since it's a readers market right now - You have to be reading the book to catch on to what is the next books to flip is.

Craigslist and Paypal make it a zero overhead business so you can do very well using the prices against the market.

When will these fools learn?

I want quality stories and art in my comics/graphic novels.

32 pages with 14 of them as garbage advertising for $2.99 is still too much.

Incredible Hulks #614 for example had 18 pages of story. The rest was bullshit filler and ads.

All so that they can stretch a 1 1/2 hour read over the course of 12 months.

I'd rather they charge me $12 for a decent story around 100 pages once or twice a year.

3.99 is way to much to spend for comics. Back in the day when I was heavy into collecting I was buying 5-6 different comics a month not counting one-shots, limited series,and the oh so expensive variant issues. Now I'm getting back into collecting and I only collect 2 comics mainly because the price. Mabye Marvel will follow suit but i'm not holding my breath.​

Every mainstream comic maker is looking at Kirkman's books. Many of them were waiting for his books to fall. Yet @ 2.99 his books are selling out regularly.

If this Batman, Inc (such trash) does not move units like a motherfucker...expected a another down sizing of DC books.

Marvel is about to retconn some more heroes so them shits are going to move units but if they get lower than 32% of the gross share for the next 6 months they will be downsizing too.

I've been saying it fir years myself. There was ab time when I'd go to comic book store and load up. The hobby got to expensive and left a bad feeling, spending $70 bucks on books that were usually horrible.
