You're moving the goal posts. The initial objection was that he "knew her" when she was 17, obviously before she was 18. Now you're making a new argument about "being friends with a 16 year old girl."
Well let's address that. Is it possible for an adult to be friends with a 16 year old? Absolutely. Does context matter? Yes. Would it be more socially appropriate for the adult and minor to restrict their interactions to public settings and group settings? Yes. But, it is absolutely possible to be friends without engaging in any inappropriate activities. Would I feel comfortable with my minor children hanging out alone with adults? No. Nor would I allow it. But, if my child was working at McDs and was friends with coworkers, that is normal.
This is why I say context matters.
Dane and her weren't working at McDonald's or working anywhere. He routinely invited teenage girls to party with him and his older friends and that's how he met her.

Two people could be one month apart in age difference. Both can be 17 in August, then one turns 18 in September. This would be considered statutory rape. Though it would be unlikely a prosecutor would want to pursue a case like this. Under the law, it is still technically illegal. But, in some states, some prosecutors do pursue this BS.

If a child is not old enough to provide legal consent, it by definition cannot be consensual.
