Six months was said at first because that seemed to be the amount of time people who had gotten sick seemed to still make antibodies. There have been several studies that show that the vaccines are effective for at least a year afterward. The only people who keep pushing the six-month thing are people trying to push the "There's no money in a cure" angle or trying to claim this is somehow proof scientists don't know what they are talking about, because it's different than what they were saying six months ago.
