Cutty... From Dead Presidents. Writers, let's talk about it.

Cutty was one of the coldest characters in cinema, to me. He told old boy how it really was, not how it should have been.

Dude wasn't in the movie that long, but his impact was strong. Are they still creating characters who are this strong? As I write my stories, I think about this cat a lot. I'm striving to create a minor character who has a huge impact... almost like The Wolf in Pulp Fiction to a certain degree.

Man I haven't developed near enough of the projects in my head. Sometimes I wake up and write down a dream i had cause i dream about something that would make a good movie or song.

It's hard as hell to say, "ok, I want to write a novel/screenplay" and then sit and stare down a blank screen.

I would love to create a MASTERPIECE like "Heat". The way dude interweaves the characters, it's like this is a documentary not a fictional work. There's a great article about it which I or someone posted on here. I'll post it in here in a bit.

To your question, I would begin by writing about what you know, people you know, events you lived through or heard about. All of us have the same human wants and needs, it's the differences of location, classification, race etc that makes the story unique.

To write a character that sticks out, look at who influenced you in your own life. Ever talk to a random homeless guy and ask him how he found himself where is, respectfully?

I've found that everyone has a story, and most people will share it if only asked the right way. Especially successful people.

When I was a valet at the Ritz, I used to ask people their story and most were forthcoming and gave good general life advice.

Sometimes I would go to clubs with a pen and pad and write about the people I encountered. By the way that was an easy way to get a chicks interest lol....thats for a different thread though.

Back in the 90's, I used to buy a sandwich for a homeless person once in a while and sit and talk with them. Man, stories I heard were heartbreaking and fascinating. I talked to a lot of homeless people, and I didn't hear a single person blame someone else for their problem. They all took the blame for where they were. One guy had a master's degree and a family, and he drank it all away.

Yeah, Bro... Lee Ermey went in on this one. That was one of the best performances ever.

After his part in the movie, I really wasn't too interested anymore. But that picture was solid.

Beyond that, there were...disturbing overtones to that scene.

The is no time in which a a man cups someone's head like that except....

Bane was born and raised in jail. He's a well read street dude, but a street dude nonetheless.

That scene displayed his physical dominance like a dude who just came home. Bane is still living by jungle rules. All the CEO's money couldn't save him from a gruesome neck snapping death.

You don't get too many of those types of relationships in life. If you get one, you're lucky. She'll leave a life of stability to spend one night with Cutty. That's why he could show up at the crib, knowing that O'le Boy was out there, and that he could come home at anytime.

That was some good writing right there. It was inferred.

There's no doubt about that. But they way it was written was great.

Who expects a pimp/hustler/dealer to sucker punch a Marine? Not many... that's what makes it good. Then after all of that, Cutty let's him know that he's lucky this wasn't business. Cutty still adhered to "his" gangster code when he didn't have too.

Well, if you gonna talk about 2nd, 3rd or even 4th character driven series, then you really can't beat these TV shows:

I mean; think about it, from All In The Family alone, we got:

And from Happy Days we got:

All of which the 2nd, 3rd or even 4th characters from the primary shows proved to be SO POPULAR and well written that there was enough interest to create a spinoff that was just as popular as the original series.

Sadly, we don't really see this kind of success these days on modern TV or streaming services online...

when i was younger, i thought anthony's baby mom was foul. now that i'm older, anthony voluntarily went to nam when he could of went to college. knocked up his hs girlfriend and never wrote her back throughout the 3 /4 years he was in nam. then pop back up like all was good and his baby mom took him in to be a family again. however, during that time, cutty was taking care of his bm and daughter. cutty could of did her dirty and had her on the hoe troll. but encouraged her to go night school and financially held her down. " i took care of your woman while you was in the war"

i think cutty and jaunita had a bond. but peep, the first scene we see where cutty rolls up. from cutty pov, he doesn't know who dude in the car with the woman he's been taking care of is. cutty sucking the lollipop, foreshadowing of cutty got jaunita into liking to suck dick. and him mentioning her school night , to let anthony know, he knows her routine. drops the money in the car and speeds off before she could say that's her baby father. the next time we see cutty , he's coming from the apartment. the scene and cutty , alludes to him just finding out who anthony is when he was leaving the apartment, since that was the first time he spoke to jaunita since that night he saw her in the car with dude. but best believe when he got locked up jaunita was back to fucking cutty.

cutty was written great. i look at that screen like when a dude who's regularly fucking a chick who says she single and see her tonguing a dude down. remember she didn't know anthony was going to be at her momma house when she picked up her daughter. this is the first time she saw her baby father since he left for the war in 4 years. cutty don't know who dude is and cutty does the old school grown man stuntin. juanita came back to reality when she saw cutty lol

that's my favorite character that clifton powell played . and he probably only had under 10 minutes of screen time
