Freakonomics also did a whole 3 part series on crypto....
To reduce 3 hrs of audio into that lil byte of info is wildly disingenuous and misleading.
They "are not done with crypto," but basically said that the potential is there for average people to make money, but so far only the elites have "bought in" on a large economic scale.
I.e...... 5 people will invest $1 million, but if there's only 5 million ppl investing $1 dollar .....so that contributes to why the ratio is so far off.
Major employers include 401k and other investments in their benefits packages now.....
Almost none offer crypto alternatives.....
And so on....

The average American isn't going to move their money overseas. Most americans don't even have passports etc. You think joe smoe who living pay check to paycheck is moving money overseas? Do people make money on crypto? Yes but most lose it. I saw a guy at work the other day staring at his Robinhood account in red. I was thinking thats the worst platform to use.
Most people don't understand crypto. They hear "currency" and automatically think money. 99% of crypto are utility tokens you use to pay for the services on the underlying network. Only a few like BTC are competing with the dollar as a medium of exchange. If the underlying network is mass adopted and massive amounts of value are transacted across the network, THEN the token will have value. The smart crypto investor is focused on those with a clear use case and solves a problem. Have I made any money? My portfolio is in the green even with the downturn in the market. I've could've sold at various points and made several hundred thousands of dollars in profit. But I'm not in it for short term gain. Me liquidating my crypto portfolio would be like selling Amazon stock before online buying became a thing. The dogecoin and shiba inu people can make some money as long as they got in early enough and people keep buying it so the price keeps going up.
