Cord cutters I need your opinion on the best stream players.

Future proof against what? 4k? All these devices will be close to obsolete in a couple years anyway. That's just how it is. No device is truly 'future-proof'.
At $200, IMO, it is overkill as just a Kodi device.
All the other devices that run Kodi just as well are $100 and under.
If you're a hardcore gamer as well, then I could see it being a good buy.
Not everyone has a 4k TV yet. I don't have one yet myself, but when I do (later this year) I can utilize the Shield immediately without having to get another device.

Nothing is obsolete so long as you still use it.

It's main function isn't KODI, it's an Android TV device, that also gives the option to run a ton of other apps.

That, to me, makes it worth it.

And I originally paid $199 for it but ended up spending $149 (plus free remote) after they lowered the price.

It's worth it to me and others. Hell, the reviews against comparative devices (Roku 4, AppleTV, Nexus Player, FireTV) has the Shield typically smoking the competition.

New fire tv comes with ultra 4K and Alexa. I'm bout to get on the bus. Does this make said device more desirable in the opinion of those with one? I think this is the route I'm going to select.

Just got some GREAT advice from the brothers at bgol tech group

I'm such a novice I copped the beelink just cause I got a it for under 30 free shipping and I think the coupon worked too. So it will be my practice unit.

But I think I may got Fire down the line if get Amazon Prime again.

and I got the Fire Stick for Christmas and haven't even opened it yet.

The Shield looks ill but before I invest in a unit like that I got see if I can even figure how to use Kodi and set it up in a way that the family can use it.

Thanks again for all the help...I WILL be needed some more soon.

I have the new FireTV along with a 4k TV. There is some 4k content on Amazon Prime, but not a lot. It is increasing though.
I haven't used the Alexa feature a whole lot, but seems interesting. I will get more into it over time.
Kodi, of course, works great on it.
Besides the 4k and Alexa, it's not a huge jump over the original FireTV.

I have been reading about the fire box, I need 6 of these things. Is there a more user friendly interface for kodi so my kids can use it ?

There's different skins within Kodi that you can try out to see which is the most kid-friendly.
There are also kid-friendly builds (come with add-ons already installed) like this Simpsons build.

It's an app and program you need to have on your PC running in order to stream on your home network to use on Roku. Also, you have to either pay monthly or buy a lifetime membership into.

It's not worth it. Had it, loved it til I found KODI.
Appreciate the info...heard those Amazon fire sticks are KODI compatible and they are fairly cheap i believe so i may get one of those as well

Just copped a firestick wit Kodi. It has spinztv on it already. I don't know how to find everything but I'm just clicking on the menus. Can't wait until the nba games start back, the money I'm saving on league pass is gonna make up for the purchase. What's the best add on for movies that's still in the theatre? An for NCAAMB?

Guys

I'm abit late in these things

I always DL tv shows or movies via torrents and I always watch via laptop. Since I'm based in Europe sometimes I have to wait for few hrs before I DL Tv shows shown in the states

Now does this mean that this KODI thing is a different version of torrent except I dont need to download?

What if I wanna keep the TV show and watch it later while I'm off line?

Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Check Sportsdevil for NBA games and college basketball. Try Phoenix for new movies.

Question for the experts??? On my Android TV device I can't connect to Google Play Store. Says no connection. Anyone know of a fix?

Also, there's an a channel I got through TVaddons, forget what it is, that has the Four Major Sports as part of the channel logo (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL) and the games are HD. Like, not fucking around, really HD. Better than what Sportsdevil presents.

I'll update when I get home and check.

Its from the makers of
gensis, I have it running with beast.
Man, Genesis still works for me but it's intermittently gives me issues. The search function for one doesn't work anymore.

Thanks for adding that new joint in here.

Man so far the fire tv is running kodi flawlessly. I'm a noob to that but I followed the advice here and checked Joe pro's how to install and it was done in a few minutes. I'm still playing with the add on to get familiar with the way it works. Is there a way to get a running config of someone here's droid? Lazy.

Thanks! I got the sportsdevil, but didn't look in it. I just got this firestick friday an haven't had the time to look into all the menus yet.

Never mind, this is the addon. Pro Sports.... Shits fire!

Yeah I saw the Pro sports. That's what sold me on the unit! It did have the NBA games on HD, but does it have College on there as well?

Well this is what ruined the whole streaming game for me comcast only allows the 300 gb per month then after they charge 10$ extra for every 50 gb.

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know a good Usb stick media player, one that can play any file thrown at it including mkv's? And also, one that is durable, meaning won't burn out in 6 months. Thanks.

I have 3 fire sticks with Kodi. They are great. I wish I could find an alternative for my live local news and live local sports. If I had that, my cable would be canceled immediately.
