I just started in the MTA six weeks ago, I received overtime the first week I started training. Transportation is free, and the promotional opportunities are there. It's a good job.

It is definitely an adventure.

dude- they didn't list the differentials there are a variety of pay enhancements- like overnight hours are paid more than day hours - the job will never have you do 8 hour days the shift will always be more. the two conductors I knew were taking home $50-$60k back in 99...
This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get a solid job - this job is also a gateway job to a bunch of other HIGH paying transit gigs :itsawrap:
I stand corrected. I totally forgot bout the night pay vs day pay. I knew the OT was there and they encourage it but didn't account for the differential pay.

Nobody is relocating for an entry level position.

So the people applying are already living in NY so what's the issue again ?

and if they are leaving a job then this must be a step up in their longer range plans..

stop pretending that everybody living in NY that lives alone is making more than 40k with benefits and unlimited overtime.

there is a reason that these kinds of jobs are so hard to get.....and starting pay isn't that factor.

Metro North, LIRR and Transit Authroity are desired.

And the same thing is true all over the country with railroad jobs
I never said anything about anyone relocating. From jump I said the job itself was a solid job and it's a desired job because there aren't many opportunities to get on board, union privileges, great retirement options and the potential for growth. I stand corrected on the differential pay as I totally forgot about the night pay being separate from OT and how quickly it accumulates. I was mainly going based on the base pay for the position. Now as for anyone living alone in NY, yes you do have to make more than $40K. There's no way you're making it up there on a $40K salary.

i took it Zoe.

they had me at FDR in Brooklyn taking the test a couple of weeks ago.

they said we'd know by July or something

congrats and good luck!!!!

funny I took the test way back because I actually gave the info AND the money to someone else...

they flaked and I said what he hell and took the damn test myself.
