This is great for the brothers in need of a solid job. The sad thing is the salary is still low for the cost of living in NYC. You'd have to put in a lot of OT to make up ground and acquire the extra money necessary to stay on top of bills & be somewhat comfortable.

just have to move to jersey

hey thats a lot of money in some states to start....

fuck NY i would never live there ever again...
Oh definitely outside the tri-state area, that's definitely a decent starting salary but for NY that's just not enough to get by especially for it being a city job.

obviously y'all not aware of how those railroad jobs start...

they are scaled and starting is about 25%..

they also have healthcare with no co-payment

and the training is transferable all over the country and with all railroads.

not to mention their is damn near unlimited overtime

some of y'all sound like those cats outside the store looking for something on they 40 talking bout they don't even get out of bed for less than while they on zero.

I believe the wage listed is only for the training period and maybe initial probation period...
that position also has a bunch of pay enhancements: nite / evening differential, overtime, and holiday pay bumps... can't remember it all - back in the days my neighbor's whole family had different transit jobs and they were giving me the rundown on conductors and operators

I'm aware of the healthcare benefits and overtime. The problem is still the pay vs cost of living for NYC in particular. Rent in a decent neighborhood that isn't section 8 or the projects for a 1bdrm will run you at least $1K and that would more than likely be in someone's private house renting out their basement.

All I'm saying is the base salary is low. The job itself is solid with good security and opportunities for acquiring additional pay. You just gotta be hungry and put in the OT necessary to get it. 8hr work day won't cut it to survive in NY on that salary.

Rent for a decent spot in NYC is going to run you upwards of $1500 which means you need to be making at least 60k

There are some in the BX for less than that. I know when I was living up there, luxury apts in New Roc were starting at around $1600

What parts? Based on your Jamaican spots we're from pretty much the same hood, the Baychester area is mostly private and 2-3 family homes(No buildings down by Dyre)... unless you're talking about the Bronx river road stretch (behind Our Lady of Mercy, Montifiore now) from 233rd down to Gun hill, but a lot of those buildings need help, dirty walk ups. There are a few "nice" buildings scattered on Carpenter Ave but those are $1200+ for a 1 BDRM, and truthfully if you've gone that far up you might as well look at Fleetwood, Bronxville and Riverdale (assuming public transportation isn't your only mode of transportation)

I was living in a 1bdrm spot for $1050 over on Bronxwood by 222nd st. Around where my moms lives, over by 233rd near Baychester Ave, people were renting out spots for $1100-$1300 for a 1bdrm. 2bdrms were going for around $1500+

Good gig to get your feet wet and take the promotional exam for motormen..

OP is a faggit tho

you also didn't mention that the starting pay is 25% of the scale which means you aren't staying there long....

You tell me anywhere in NYC where you can rent a 1bdrm apt for under $1K that isn't Section 8, in the projects or in the hood. I doubt you'll find one in any of the 5 boroughs, Long Island or West Chester. $40K will not cut it if you're living by yourself in NYC point blank.

As for the 25% scale, I know nothing about that as I'm going based on what's on this form. For that position, as it states, you're getting $20.25 and it goes to 28.94 after the 6th year. Without a good amount of OT, that salary range is still not sufficient for a single person to get by on.

Parkchester and around Yankee Stadium are still affordable

I don't think you can find a studio outside of the Bronx for less than 1k

That's right smack in the hood too. And if you have a car forget about parking if you live in Parkchester. You'll be searching for hours and end up parking like 5-6 blocks away from your crib :smh:

SOME OF Y'ALL SOUND DUMB !!! OT IS BUILT IN WITH THE JOB!!

I STARTED AS A CONDUCTOR AND MADE ABOUT 86K my 2nd year... Now im a motorman pulling SIX FIGURES !!!

SO Y'ALL SLEEP IF YOU WANT TOO !!!:lol:

dude- they didn't list the differentials there are a variety of pay enhancements- like overnight hours are paid more than day hours - the job will never have you do 8 hour days the shift will always be more. the two conductors I knew were taking home $50-$60k back in 99...
This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to get a solid job - this job is also a gateway job to a bunch of other HIGH paying transit gigs :itsawrap:

Nobody is relocating for an entry level position.

So the people applying are already living in NY so what's the issue again ?

and if they are leaving a job then this must be a step up in their longer range plans..

stop pretending that everybody living in NY that lives alone is making more than 40k with benefits and unlimited overtime.

there is a reason that these kinds of jobs are so hard to get.....and starting pay isn't that factor.

Metro North, LIRR and Transit Authroity are desired.

And the same thing is true all over the country with railroad jobs
