~ Comics New releases ~

I haven't read it yet, but Blacknest Night is just a different spin on the latest zombie / apocalyptic trend that every other book except for DC has done ( Marvel Zombies, The Walking Dead, Crossed ).

Zombie books have been big since the 60's. Both companies have done it.

Can't totally agree with that.

Sure Marvel Zombies was created to cash in on the success of Walking Dead but Blackest Night was in the making since 2005 or whenever Green Lantern Rebirth appeared.

Everything is connected.

You can tell it's more than just zombies especially after the last two issues.

Sinestro Corps Wars was the best crossover two years ago and Blackest Night is picking up right where it left off.

I can't call blackest night a trend because it was not created to cash in on a trend but to tell a trilogy

Rebirth
Sinstero Corps War
Blackest Night

Hell Blackest Night emerged from an old Alan Moore Green Lantern story Johns just made a story out of it.
I

I'm not saying that the BL arc isn't interesting or entertaining. It's just not a new idea. My only problem, and this is a problem that Marvel and DC has is that it's a big story, and it's all over the damn place. And, I don't see a point to it yet. It gets even more annoying because I know that some ppl ( Batman and Martian Manhunter ) are going to be brought back to life because of this.

......

As for Alan Moore 87 piece...Marvel had an issue of Alpha Flight where a woman died triggering her mutant ability to resurrect the dead - she was in a field of heroes...So we can go back and pull these obscure books and say yeah this is the original dog turd that stuck up the joint but it won't do a hill of beans with these writers doing ZERO commitment to characterization.

A pet peeve of mine, like Spider Man's extra powers. It was a nice idea, but they should have stuck ith it. If that's the direction that the character is headed, don't worry about screaming fans. Make the stories more interesting so that ppl can't help but read.

I remember a few Avengers issues in the 80's and 90's where all of the dead Avenegers were reanimated. I also remember a couple of Teen Titans issues where the same thing happened.

So they both have done zombie issues before.
But I don't see how you can say that the timing of Blackest Night is not a direct response to the success of Marvel Zombies.

Marvel Zombie was supposed to be a one-shot fun series, like Marvel Apes.
I think that's why Blackest Night is much better written because they are going deeper into the "Zombie's" lives and relationships with friends and families.

To tell the truth I think Marvel has no idea where they want to go with the Zombies Series. They will keep making them as long as they are selling.

Amazing Spiderman 604 aint out yet? I have been waiting with baited breath to find out what the hell happens. Also looking out for that clone saga book (big clone saga fan).

DAMN SON! Thanks for this... I was JUST about to start looking for the newest issues since I've been outta touch with this for 6 months.

...now if you have the last 10 issues of BERZERK we can call this a wrap.

---edit---

Damn, forgot this is an old book... Oh well. Got to relive the past a bit.

Yep. They really don't care because it was really a response to the sales of the UFF book. In UFF...the zombies were a serious threat...then in the later books it went to comedy (Howard Duck comedy style)...So they are not taking the Universe seriously.

BLN is DC fuck up. Seriously, you and I both know they are not going to make any serious moves with this BS. It's a shock and awe book...Cover entices old fans that left...action is lack luster...the end result is the bring back flagships to produce more profit.

That's why you can not take this big books seriously while side books like Marvel's Annihilation, DC's Rann-Thangar War and a few b book like Marvel's Iron-Fist and DC's Hitman are great because the creative team has a lot more freedom.

The true STORIES being told are in the indie books.

You are very much wrong and Marvel Zombie was written and under draft and being promoted in Ultimate FF back in 2004 to early 2005 months (almost an entire year) before Green Lantern RECHARGE (where black lanterns made their first appearance) (2005 to 2006) - not rebirth.

So with that said. Blackest Night had roots in the recharge book but if you want read the comics and see so many of the contradictions from the "dead" lanterns coming back under Nekron's will then brought back due to a time warp later on...then the behavior of each black lantern contradicting each other then you just hating to hate.

Personally, I think Marvel and DC are fucking up and the people buy them now are just mindless to jump into these shitty books and not question the motives of these characters to jump traits book to book.

I will say this.

Would we have seen Marvel Zombies if not for the success of Robert Kirkman's Walking Dead? I think not hell Kirkman even wrote the first story in 2005.

Now I honestly believe from the way it has been set up and establish Blackest Night would have came either with or without Walking Dead.

As for Marvel I have been reading Marvel since X-men were blue and gold team's the 90's but these stories these day are horrible. Just my opinion.

I'm saying my feelings reflect many who have heard of this storyline and Chris Yost and his partner had to defend their storyline.

Blackest Night has been the most hype comic for the past two years and I don't doubt for a second Marvel didn't say well we can do that too.

Though that is part of the business would DC had replace batman if they had not seen the success Captain America had with Bucky taking the mantel?

I see your point but it's getting hard for me to keep caring bout Marvel storylines. though one reader won't break them:lol:

Caring is a strong word.

Just stating the facts. When you have a character that does x then next issue does y...then for no reason does ABCD but never x again...it's bad writing.

Black lanterns enter the scene...Killing people randomly (appearance of MM and the wholesale building and another shit)...Hawk comes out..killing...Elongated man...killing..But BL Superman is taking hostages?

You can not with a straight face say...well they are setting up a storyline...Dude, they just can't commit to the Villain archtype and death empowered Lois killing Martha Kent. Like seriously, that is bad writing.

That would be (using Walking Dead) having the Governor capture Rick and crew at the prison...decide to keep them has hostages because fuck it...You as a reader would be like...C'mon his character making a decision like that is poor writing.

Marvel and DC been biting off each other for years. But writing is writing. If it's good then it's good. But when it's bad you can not defend a motherfucker with a banner of what you hope they plan to do. You say this shit is trash.

Blackest Night is trash.

Another point...Black Hand has cosmic power now...this dude knows a lot of secret shit on the heroes...like identities and other shit. He could play and should play the exposure (reveal Identities) card along with his attack (for whatever Nekron's purposes) while doing the other shit...That way the heroes will have their hands full and be easier to take down...plus He's been HUMILIATED by heroes his entire career. Why is he not acting like a MOTHERFUCKING villain. GTFOH.

Like this motherfucker Neuron during Underworld Unleash...He could grant villains powers to help them take down the heroes but he could not tell the villains WHO the fucking heroes really were? GTFOH.

DC Villain: "I'm evil as a mother fucker! But I don't kill kids, puppies or hack Facebook accounts..."

Fuck bad writing.

Fuck bad writing.

I haven't read Blackest Night Superman. I only read whatever Geoff Johns is writing.

So I can see how you can say Blackest Night Superman is different from the books Johns is writing because it's two different writers.

Plus majority of fans, critics and especially retailers have shown that Blackest Night (johns book have been received very well)

Johns has put together a great trilogy I'm excited to see how this ends. So I can't argue with you when you say what happens in BN Superman is different than what occurs in the main book because it is two different writers.

We seen it alot in "comic events" from Civil War, Final Crisis, Secret Invasion and now Blackest Night.

That is why Sinestro Corps War was a big hit it wasn't too big and was controlled by three writers.
