Okay, bring your knowledge. Who do you think is the best black superhero, in comics, in one of the big 2 universes (marvel or dc), today?

For my money, I've been very impressed by the characterization of Mr. Terrific in DC's Checkmate of late, written by Greg Rucka. Particularly in last issue, he's a very dynamic, complex hero.

The other obvious choice (to me) is Luke Cage written by perhaps comics premiere writer in Brian Michael Bendis. Starting really with Bendis's Alias/Jinx series in the max line he has absolutely nailed this guy's character. Cage has become a frontline player in the Marvel U.

I'll give a shout out to Warren Ellis for his depication of the Falcon in the Ultimate universe of Marvel as well. I was never a big fan of Falcon in the 616 but I loved his revamp in the Ultimate Galactus saga...probably one of the few redeeming aspects of that story. Having said that, I feel like Brubaker has done a good job of representing Falcon in the traditional marvel U in his Captain America storylines.

Boo to Hudlin and his black panther/storm storyline. we don't need affirmitave action comics if the stories suck. give us good stories! But Panther has been an interesting antidote to reed richards in the fantastic four storylines of late- post civil war.

nighthawk is just a bad ass in Squadron Supreme..black batman? nuff said.

dc isn't doing anything really interesting with green lantern jon stewart or vixen in their comics but having watched Justice League Unlimited cartoons, they are really cool, interesting, complex characters.

that's all i got. what do you guys think? my top 2, by far, though are Mr. Terrific and Luke Cage. It's all in the writing.

They always seem to find a way to Kill off Black Goliath! He's like that kid on South Park! (oh no, they Killed Black Goliath!)

Whatever happend to Black Lightning?

I think the speadster in the Squadron Supreme is somewhat complex too... not quite sure what to make of him yet.
OR

BTW, the US Postal service recently released a Marvel Super Heroes series of stamps. Here's a scan:

what do you mean by that? the last couple of issues lacked action, but over all i think the stories have been great. its one of the best comics ive ever read.
