NYC has a big black (and brown) population, but so many folks here are in that 'Crank Dat' mentality that cats need to be hit with a bus in order to realize how real shit is and by then it's too late. I feel for people who live in towns like Jena because it's almost like being in a shark tank. But it can be just as sad in a big city like New York where being/looking 'fresh' is more important than being informed. I don't think enough folks have the 'we're not taking this shit anymore' mentality and brush it off until the hammer drops on them.
If we don't create websites to highlight specific problems one website at a time then the international community will never know what is actually going on....
Remember it is only when the threat of British political & military intervention occurred that Lincoln decided to free the slaves as a tactic to hold of the British.
Of course in 2007 no military is going to ride in but politically it is imperative that we recognize the enemy, develop measures to expose the enemy and concurrently work to break down ignorance in a legal constitutional way.
Maybe it will only take one person to sue an institution for not providing an adequately safe environment for this shit to end.

Teen nabbed for threat to kill black neighbor's children

An 18-year-old Queens woman was arrested on charges she flashed a noose, shouted the N-word and threatened to kill a black neighbor's children, police sources said Tuesday.
Christina Lindner, who is white, was hauled off in handcuffs from her Richmond Hill home Sunday afternoon after the neighbor called the cops.
Both families said tensions boiled over Friday when Lindner, her 25-year-old brother and two members of the black family were summonsed after a brawl in front of the attached 112th St. homes over a missing bike.
Two days later, Lindner allegedly threatened Patricia Gilbert's children with the noose.
"It's a hate crime. The people next-door don't like us because we're black," said Gilbert, 43. "They threatened to kill us and hang my babies with a noose."
"She said, 'I'm down with the Aryan Nation. I'm down with the Ku Klux Klan. These n------ need to die.'"
Lindner was charged with second-degree harassment and aggravated harassment, both misdemeanors, cops said.
The NYPD hate crime task force is investigating.
Lindner even allegedly told the NYPD detective, "I'm going to kill those n------," as she was being cuffed, police sources said.
But the teenager told the Daily News her new neighbors are the aggressors - and that she's no racist.
"A bike went missing but I don't know anything about that," she said, referring to Gilbert's allegations that Lindner stole a bike belonging to her 14-year-old daughter.
Lindner said she didn't even know what a noose was.
"They say I'm a racist, but my boyfriend is Puerto Rican, black and Dominican.
We're a mixed-race family. Get real," she said. "She just wanted an excuse to fight me. I pressed charges against her for the fight on Friday. So they had to do this."

A racial slur written on a student's residence hall door has prompted a criminal investigation on a campus struggling to move past a racially charged editorial cartoon printed in the student newspaper last week.
University of Kentucky President Lee. T. Todd Jr. yesterday backtracked on a statement released Monday in which he complimented the community for conducting a peaceful protest against a cartoon published Friday in the Kentucky Kernel.
"Unfortunately, a couple of incidents have been reported where the lines of civil discourse have been crossed," Todd said.
The cartoon, drawn by UK law student Brad Fletcher, depicted a black student standing bare-chested on a slave auction block as an auctioneer took bids from representatives of fictitious fraternities called Aryan Omega, Kappa Kappa Kappa (KKK) and Alpha Caucasian.
In the campuswide e-mail, Todd did not specify what incidents prompted the message. But university officials said he was referring to two cases: a Kentucky Kernel reporter who said she was slapped during a protest that lured more than 100 students Friday and a racial slur discovered yesterday on the door of an African-American student.
Two students on the fourth-floor of New North Hall saw and reported the message written in marker on the door about 12:15 p.m., said Joe Monroe, UK's acting police chief.
Monroe said police think the message was written between 10:30 a.m. and noon. The student was not in the room when it was discovered.
The message, which Monroe declined to reveal, had been removed from the door last night.
Police did not have any suspects in the case.
Monroe said additional officers will patrol the residence halls when not responding to calls.
The woman who said she was assaulted during the protest declined to file charges, Monroe said.
Todd said anyone who uses disagreement and debate to physically harm or threaten another individual will be punished.
"I would like to remind everyone that our higher education community thrives on disagreement and debate," Todd said. "However, such discourse must be respectful and peaceful."

Joan Gustafson, a spokeswoman at the installation, said the military already was investigating the incident. No motive or suspects have been identified.
"We're a federal installation and they're a city council. While we really appreciate their offer, there is nothing they really can do," she said.
The Anniston City Council approved the resolution Monday. Member Ben Little said he hoped the vote would "raise the consciousness" of the public.
"I think this council in general doesn't want to relive the past," Little said.
A rope that the military initially described as a noose was found tied to a pole near a building on Oct. 2. In an interview, Gustafson said the rope was more like a slipknot than a noose, with fewer loops than a classic hangman's noose.
Nooses have been found at several locations nationwide in the weeks since a mass protest in Jena, La. Three white students who hung nooses from a tree outside Jena High School were not prosecuted criminally, but authorities filed charges against six black youths accused of beating a white teen.

South Elgin police are investigating a possible hate crime after a racial slur was painted on a work counter and a noose was found hanging from an exit at a Home Depot store under construction, authorities said Tuesday.
The construction project's general contractor called police Monday morning to report that someone had written a racial slur in white spray paint on a countertop, South Elgin Detective Sgt. Mike Doty said. The vandalism is believed to have occurred Sunday or Monday, Doty said.
Construction firm officials also told police that about a week ago, workers discovered a noose made out of foam hanging from an exit in the building's garden center, Doty said. The incident was not reported to police at the time.
"There's been nothing like this before since they have been building the Home Depot," Doty said. "Based on the noose and the word, we are investigating it under the form of a hate crime."
The store at 440 Randall Rd. is expected to open next month. The vandalism in South Elgin is one of several suspected hate crimes reported in recent weeks in the Chicago area.
On Monday, a Lombard woman awoke to find a racial slur spray-painted in large red letters on the aluminum siding of the house she rents in the 1000 block of Sheldon Way.
In Lake County, a Warren Township High School student was charged with disorderly conduct Sept. 27 for allegedly making "racially charged" statements to two female students. The student drove into a campus parking lot with a noose hanging from his rearview mirror and a Confederate flag displayed in his vehicle, officials said.
Officials say the cases are the latest in a series of racial incidents across the country in the aftermath of the Jena 6 case in Louisiana.
In South Elgin, one of the construction workers who saw the noose contacted the Elgin chapter of the NAACP and told the group he thought it was intended for an African-American co-worker, said Temi Latinwo-Jones, the chapter's president.
She said the man, who was installing flooring, noticed the noose above his work site when he returned from a break.
"I think he was in shock," said Latinwo-Jones, who said she spoke with the man Tuesday. "It was the end of the workday so he just went home."
A spokeswoman for Atlanta-based Home Depot said the home-improvement giant also is investigating.
"The Home Depot maintains a zero tolerance policy against discrimination and harassment," said spokeswoman Jennifer King in a written statement.
"At the time of the alleged incident, the store was still under construction, and was not yet under the control of our store management team. The Home Depot is investigating this incident and has told the general contractor to notify all its personnel involved in building the store that this behavior is unacceptable and an extreme violation of our policies."

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Campus police are investigating vandalism of two black Greek houses at the University of Alabama, including whether the incidents are connected and racially motivated, a spokeswoman said Monday.
Cathy Andreen said vandals threw eggs at the houses of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority Thursday night while many students were away at homecoming festivities.
The vandals also tampered with lawn decorations at the AKA house. The decorations were to be judged during a competition the next day, but Andreen said she did not believe the meddling and competition were related.
"Certainly the University of Alabama finds this behavior totally unacceptable and strongly condemns it, so we're taking steps to find the person or persons responsible and taking steps to clean up the houses," she said.
Andreen said the University of Alabama Police Department is asking anyone who might have seen or heard something to come forward.
Erica Sanders, AKA president and a senior majoring in chemical engineering, said one of the sorority members found the eggs when she returned from a choreography contest in which they participated.
"She sent us all text messages letting us know," Sanders told The Crimson White. "It ruined the night because we had so much fun participating in the contest, and then we had to come back to that."
She said eggs were all over every outside door and the vandals entered through a back yard fence.

Teachers College, Columbia U. is my alma mater (did my graduate work for psychology there), and TRUST ME, she didn't get there because of affirmative action. The Counseling and Clinical Psychology Department is one of the MOST DIVERSE departments I have ever seen of a graduate institution, period. The majority of professors in the program are people of color, with a few white men thrown in. The topics they cover are mostly in-your-face, challenging and enlightening for other students of color to hear, but many white students in the program think too much emphasis is placed on race.
This woman is one of the nicest professors and people I have ever met. What books she has done or topics she has discussed never should have caused this type of backlash. However, as I mentioned before, many white people can't fathom or swallow most of the jargon discussed in the graduate program....
