not just who would win in a battle but over all who is a better character.
Guy at work yesterday swore me down that Gambit sucks and they should have replace him with a much cooler character like Colossus :hmm:
To each his own:dunno:
everyone is entitled to their opinion but Colossus

are you talking about in the wolverine movie? I like colossus but he would not have worked there.

Depends on the context.

If he meant 'they should have went with a better character' in reference to the Wolverine movie .... then I'd have to agree. Not that the character was out of place in the movie. It just seems like they threw Gambit in there without giving him a real purpose. They could have took him out and the movie would have been exactly the same.

imo :dunno:

However, outside of the movie .... Gambit wins hands down. Much better character than Colossus

Ok...I'm 36. Started with the x-folk since the early 80's. In all honesty I haven't been deep in with the x-men since maybe '93 but me and a few other comic geeks were wondering whats up with all the gambit love. I never understood it. I know they expanded his powers at one point and he actually had a pretty decent background story but I never found him any more interesting than say....Banshee. Third tier of all x-men at BEST IMO.

PS that movie BLEW CHUNKS of liver with bile dressing...
again IMHO

It's been a while since I read a X-Men comic, but am I to understand that they turned Colossus gay .... :smh:

WT flying F !!!!

When was Colossus gay?

I always thought he was a sensitive bitch at times but gay?

Colossus was only Gay in Ultimate X-men, I think they only did that to create tension between him and a very religious Nightcrawler.

Anyways, I think they are both interesting characters, but Gambit is a few steps ahead in terms of what kind of stories you can do with him. His powers are a little more complex/intriguing then turning into a super strong metal man ( although if someone offered me That power or nothing I wouldn't turn it down.lol)
I don't know. I think almost everyone on the X-men roster has been under explored to some degree save Wolverine/Cyclops/ Gene Lame.

Also wasn't Gambit supposed to be an 'Omega-level' mutant, but it made him too unstable so he did something to have them scaled back?

Yea he was gay in the ultimates.

Gambit was becoming too poerful. didnt Mr. Sinister put some chip inside his head to keep him from getting to that level. But at one point Gambit's energy started leaking out his hands. Gambit could have destroyed the world.....

I personally prefer the original Colossus.

Gambit is a hot garbage, uninteresting character.
Did they ever really need yet another boring hero that utilizes some form of energy blasts? (Cyclops, Havok, Jubilee, Banshee and so on). Mr. Charge-The-Card should have been killed off from his first appearance just like a star trek redshirt! He brings nothing to the team but a poor attitude...don't they already have wolverine for that?

^ That shit sound stupid - Seriously, sounds like some DC shit.

awwwww cmon man, colossus was straight for years til some new cat decided to do that book where he wzs gay

What?????????????????????
This gay shit in comics has gone to far!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fuck that Colossus and Kitty Pride forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:hmm:

The Colossus you know(Canon 616 universe) is straight.

Colossus is only gay in the Ultimate(1610) Universe.

Basically they aren't the same person.

Taken from http://www.answers.com/topic/gambit-comics
In his youth, Gambit was able to control all forms of kinetic energy, allowing him to charge all matter within his line of sight by mere thought alone, but his failure to control it caused him to turn to Mister Sinister. Sinister excised the portion of his brain stem responsible for his full mutant powers. Later, he returned to Sinister while he was in Victorian England, and had his grey matter surgically reimplanted, restoring his abilities to their full potential (which enabled him to return to the present day by transforming himself into living energy which joined with the kinetic flow of the timestream itself) until he burnt them out while fighting the New Sun. However, Sage then jump started his powers twice, first, when the XSE rejoined the X-Men and second, when she helped him heal his blinded eyes. It was later revealed that he had regained his ability to charge even organic and animated matter when he directly powered the kinetic-absorbing Sebastian Shaw with biokinetic energies in order to be able to destroy the Cronus machine of Mister Sinister.

While blinded for a period of time, it was shown that Gambit had the ability to foresee future events using his playing cards through tarot reading.

After Sage helped restore his vision, possibly by unlocking the further stages of his own mutation so that he could heal himself (by biokinetically stimulating his own cellular activity) as he did once (when he was speared through the chest in the Assassination Game), he has yet to demonstrate this ability again.

I have to go with Gambit.

Colossus character is only great in certain writers hands and that is Claremont and Wheadon.

Colossus became boring so they decided to send him to Asteroid M and join Magneto and Exodus. Then he would later join Excalibur and then return to the X-Men then would be killed off.

Gambit on the other hand. Has always been who side is this guy on. You check early issues you can tell he was meant to have a connection with Sinister. The confrontation between him and Sabertooth in the Danger Room. When Sabertooth first saw him when they were captured by Omega Red.

kind of depends.

I really liked the colossus portion of Nation X

from growing up in the soviet union, his brother dying in the war, him promising to take care of Ilyana, his turning into colossus to save Ilyana from a runaway tractor, the love angle with Kitty Pride, losing his sister to the dark realms, dying etc. all great emotional stories..

most strong guys are described as funny, charismatic, taking pleasure in bashing things..

but Colossus? outside of a direct story line revolving him, he has as much personality as Guido from X-Factor..

it's all perception of character.. I also like the angle they took on Bobby Drake in Nation X as well, that's an angle that most readers don't see of Iceman..

They even fucked Colossus up in the ultimate universe :smh: at first I was like "oh shit, Colossus is some bad ass drug dealer or arms dealer who thinks of himself, nice character switch for him.. oh shit. . guns.. colossus going to whoop yall asses.. alright .. wait.. why is he checking out dudes? aw fuck.. they ruined him again"

it's like the colossus life story keeps being passed on to the interns

Never liked Gambit in the 616.

He was great in Ultimates. I think the storyline they did with him and his death was one of the most memorable moment in Ultimate X-Men.

In the 616...he's been through so much nonsense it's stupid. He was a horsemen of Apocalypse, a Marauder...betrayed the X-Men 23 times...was suppose to be an External...they FORGOT to finish writing that one up...and did you know originally Gambit was suppose to turn out to be Longshot with a power upgrade from Mojo to betray the X-Men later on...

Colossus should have stayed dead if you ask me.
