CNN Black in America

Oh shit nigga this thread is HILARIOUS. I wish I had a .GIF from the Simpsons when Lisa broke Ralph's heart on Valentine's Day. “If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two.” That's how niggas in this thread feel. They thought sista girl was gonna give it to them White folks, yes suh.

Nope. It wasn't. Soledad was on Steve Harvey yesterday and she basically said the series was there to get some dialogue going and that's exactly what is happening. If you go to CNN.com you can see some of the old videos and articles and get a feel for how these are done. I think that's why some people had different expctations going in if they weren't familiar with the format. I can't wait for the one with black men tomorrow.

Word? Aight...Thanks...

:smh:
I'm disappointed Followup.

Initiating dialog? The cheapest trick in the book. :smh:

'Da fuck has this type of dialog ever achieved other than a regurgitation of axioms and a bunch of obvious shit, with the occasional derailed tangential debate which ends up having absolutely nothing to do with the real issue at hand. Which no one seems to possess the testicular fortitude to engage.
Give me a fucking break. This shit is old.

my 2:

1st...why Soledad? she is a half afro/cuban...irish australian...that does not speak Spanish...but she is can give me deep insight into the state of BA, that I didn't know? I am living this everyday.

They couldn't find a Black person to do this?

So now u are going to have a bunch of so-called Black intellects sitting around and waxing poetically about the state of BA...Big Deal...they are not going to change anything.

Let's bring a camera into the everyday life of Blacks to show the world that we still do not have it together as a whole. Oh goody!!!

Finally...why are they having this show? Cause Obama might win? All this does is show that in America, still today, no matter what...we are still considered "different". We are not considered Americans, we are seen as Black Americans. And no matter what, in American, we will always be considered different.
So much for one nation under God!

Done.

I enjoyed the program. Some of the stats were very disturbing. I am looking forward to how they approach the topic of black men tomorrow.

I see your 2 and raise you my 2.37:

Why Soledad? Because she's the safest CACazoid option for CACNN.

You ever watch The Wire? Remember the last time they brought a camera into the hood? OK.

Lastly; why are they having this show now?
Several reasons of which the obvious stand out;

- pay attention to the commercials (marketing a black commodity). Plus mad black people been watching CNN lately.
- gotta mix it up a lil' every now and then ...
- Obama.

Basically ...

Man .. you know what. Fuck it. No-Robeson.

This series is a hot steaming, putrid, fuming, pungent load of organic fecal matter (with scattered kernels of corn in it).:hmm:

A shamelessly ridiculous caricature of 'the black struggle' intended to elicit "white-guilt" and/or sympathy - not empathy ... and this is key word. Stupid muhfuckas :smh:

A worthless excuse to assemble a panel of quasi-intellectuals to engage in rhetorical banter, verbal masturbation and rational impotence :hmm: ... ejaculating dilute insubstantial answers and offering stupid unrealistic solutions and long drawn-out CACesque formalisms to a glaringly obvious CAC-derived state of bullshit that stems from the history of a country Deeboed by CACs.

*... pauses to breathe ... takes a bite of lasagna, chewing with mouth open ...*

I'm watching this bullshit episode about the "woes' of successful black women in America. Way more sistas in college, in corporate America, intimidating "blue-collar" or "uneducated" brothas, dating issues, yap, yap, yap. Boo-fucking-hoo.
This Hennessey bottle shape headed sista said the solution is to "... date outside your race"

:hmm:

Da fuck? Bit... I mean , muhfuka that was the genesis of the fucking issue in the first place! Ahistorical goblin looking ass. :smh:

This (contaminated) CACazoid CNN pawn, Soledad O'Brien, (stupid name by the way) animated melodramatic lookin' ass, prancing all over the place, asking dumb questions, when the simple answer is:

CAC's hold all the aces (control the capital) and don't, have never and will never, give a fuck about . :hmm:

In the infamous and wise words of "The Ugly" to "The Bad" in the Clint Eastwood flick: "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly":

"If you gonna shoot, shoot, don't talk." :hmm:

Idiots.

Ummm... church ^^^^^^^^

wasn't really feeling the program. I have seconds thoughts on even tuning in tomorrow. :smh:

Didn't expect it to be so safe and obvious. Just rehashing the same old issues that we have been dealing with recently. I guess the mainstream is still catching up:dunno:

Suggestion: Can we have 1 Thread for the second CNN special on Black Men Tomorrow?

That way both SOL and the Main BGOL heads can talk together about the show.

Its interesting how they don't bring up how racist
atmosphere after slavery ended is tha root cause of all these issues. They don't talk about how when Blacks had successful communites whites got mad burned down tha towns and lynched whoever they caught(Black wall street). They don't talk about tha white flight to tha suburbs and why they were mostly white. They don't talk about why not alot of blacks actually owned homes. Its alot of half and half shit.

I enjoyed the program. Some of the stats were very disturbing. I am looking forward to how they approach the topic of black men tomorrow.

I can't say I enjoyed the program I did however find it somewhat interesting. The program effectively captures and reflects the struggles of black familys. But it's not offering solutions or suggestions to better address the issues presented. (truthfully I really didn't expect it to)

I must agree on the stats they are alarming but I'm hoping the 3 episode will offer something positive. I'm sure very few if any positive images will be addressed in episode 2.

O.K. I can see some of yall are just talking and looking for a reason to BS--did not even watch the show. All of the issues yall are bringing up have been addressed in different videos on cnn.com:
http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2008/black.in.america/
Check out the link for some of the old topics. I'm gonna stay out of this thread because a bunch of black men feeling sorry for themselves and playing the blame game is not something I want to witness :dunno:

whoever takes part in this sham should be murdered

all of a sudden cnn cares about black people

dumb ass niggas go on television to talk about black problem infront of white people

if they really cared it would be a closed door/no honky meeting.

My "enjoyment" came from hearing the realities of the children, fathers, and mothers. Nothing in this program was ground breaking or new information, but that doesn't make it any less relevant. I thought that the family reunion was touching, and hearing the story of the Smith's was beautiful. I don't expect episode 2 to be any different. I know plenty of college educated, employed, got their shit together black men. You can't ignore that part of our community. However, there is still part of our population that is the opposite. Hopefully they will have good examples of both. Let's not shit on it before we even see it.

I didn't expect it to offer solutions either...why can't we just take this for what it is? I think people are getting on the defensive for no reason. I'm not really getting all the negativity (not from you Mo, just in general).

Hmm you noticed that too. :hmm:

Issues of this nature should be covered by stations like TV/Radio One, not CNN! Forget BET they've been clueless since 1990. The fact is CNN would not cover issues like this if there wasn't a signifigant negative side to it. CNN is a white owned and operated news agency. So I expect no more or no less from CNN.

The sad side to all this is negative news is always of interest. Whereas good news and success stories are looked upon as so what? That's what they should be doing. This is why the few black news agencies that exist need to address these issues but also address solutions.

BET clueless since 1990? cmon now....

I'm just shocked that all over the internet, black folks are
home-alone-lr.jpg

like they see a totally different black america when they walk outside everyday...cmon now.

and on top of that, skip gates has done this documentary before...

They gonna speak on somebody Thursday evening. I care but I really don't care. They talk about the same issues everyday it seems. I haven't found an issue, I can relate to personally yet.

And which "bunch" of black men on this thread would you be referring to? Blame game? Please explain.

Unfortunately, I actually watched the entire series thus far and i still maintain my position that the series in bullshit!
None of the issues that I have brought up or at least alluded to were addressed. Specifically, (central to my argument) the fundamental issue of the flow and distribution of capital in this country which was not addressed. And contrary to popular opinion, it isn't really that complicated. Like I said, the series furnishes negative stereotypes, full of bullshit highly confounded stats and weak unsustainable solutions. Essentially, rubbish.

I'm going to address the highlighted comments successively, not for you - you're irrelevant - but for the benefit of others reading this thread ... that give a shit.

True, nothing novel of ground-breaking about the series. However, what makes it bullshit and "less relevant" (by the way, less relevant compared to ... ?) is elegantly illustrated in the idiomatic phrase; "Beating a dead horse"

Hoping for anything at all different from the template of the previous episode (on black women) is also brilliantly described in the idiomatic expression; "you really 'aint that daft, are you?"

I'm with you on the not expecting it to offer solutions. It's on CACNN, fuck you expect? And even if it was on PBS or whatever, still wouldn't expect shit either. Why? Because tackling issues like this with proximate, cosmetic 'solutions' is less messy and quite frankly requires minimal activation energy.
A bottom up grass-roots approach would cause all kinds of shit to pop off. Since CACs control CACNN (and all MSM) this isn't relevant to their interests.

Why can't we just take this for what it is? Well, not all of us are sheep. If you, and others of the ruminant persuasion want to "take it for what it is" ... very well child.

Sean is exuding much passion about the subject at hand... quite interesting...

btw... that is a scary ass picture of a sheep.. I always picture my sheep as soft and cuddly.. you've now ruined my fantasy :hmm:

I agree with what someone said, you know that the only people watching this are black people and the percentage of white people who are "afro-centric." I can't be mad at them for portraying 2 sides of a coin... Do I agree with everything.. NO... but they are not misrepresenting the population of black people which includes middle class, lower class, drug dealers and non drug dealers.. I like how the said before, how can two brothers grow up in the same household turn out so different : CHOICES.. do i wish they addressed the wealth distribution and how we got here.. probably, but the people who are watching already know that...

 I knew both songs on the videos before I even clicked.

Anyway ... so I'm in the kitchen right, I'm making a fried plantain, fish and egg sandwich right, and them I'm thinki', like, yo, WTF?! How da fuck are they gonna have a series called "Black" in "America" and they haven't mentioned shit about CACs!! (colloquially , otherwise known as white people).
:hmm:
At least, not in the context that we all know they should be.

Ight, fine. Whatever. Then I'm like, microwaving my sandwich, then I'm thinking ... did anyone else notice that the selected stories they've chosen to address the issues have a common theme. Black person, group or demographic or family in bifurcated (meaning, polarized) scenarios: Michael Eric Dyson (successful accomplished professor) and his brother (in jail for murder); light-skinned/dark-skinned quandary; black man/black woman dilemma; acting black/acting white paradox, etc ...

Don't y'all muhfuckas see it! This series isn't for black people, it's for CACs! Like i said earlier, this shit is a cauldron of white-guilt therapy and diversionary black-rage perpetration. Basically, divide-and-conquer in sheep's clothing.

So, i'm 'bout to eat my sandwich and then that Soledad CACazoid is like ..."next on Black in America, rap music ..." and i'm like ... here we go ...

By the way, Spike Lee is and has always been that dude! Russell Simmons on the other hand, is moron and this sandwich is !
