****Chrisette Michele Reportedly Will Perform At Trump's Inauguration****

Again, she has to do what she feels is best for her, BUT she also has to be prepared to deal with the backlash. I'm not too versed on her career, so I wouldn't know, but I'm hearing black people say that "we" were pretty much done with her anyway. If that's the case, why the outrage?

Outrage because of how white supremacist move.
They don't need a collective they just need 1.
1 always represents all of us.
So as soon as 1 agrees then that's their talking point and there's nothing you can really say about it.
Someone said "Well Kanye and Steve Harvey had a dialog with Trump why won't you give him a chance like them?"
See what I mean?
They make sure to drive home the point of every single black person represents the collective overall like we're a hive mind.

The white kids who sodomized the disabled black kid were an isolated incident

The black kids who fucked up the white kid were an indictment on black lives matter and the entire city of Chicago.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but if we're done with her music, and this is her livelihood, how is she to make a living? Of, course I'm being Satan's advocate, but I'd be lying if I said that this didn't fascinate me on some level. So far, I've asked a few friends, and you're the only one that's been able to answer that question.

I also get that people need to make a living, but I also know that is a slippery slope.

This presidency could POTENTIALLY be - I'm not a doomsayer like some - one to cause black people to regress, and you want to be remembered as the person who participated in that president's inauguration?

Shit, why not go sell some pussy in secret? I'd rather hate myself in private, than to hate myself and be hated by millions who recognize me by face and name.

Like I said, I'm all for you doing what you've gotta do, but if it's an unpopular move, don't be shocked by the backlash, and for God's sake, don't try to spin it! Like when Kool Moe Dee crossed the Grammy boycott line, talking about "our voices needed to be heard". Dude, you just wanted to be on TV!

Here is the thing. Whether we regress or prosper we need to get a list of all of those who participated in that shit. Hell it would be even better if we prospered because these people would be begging for us to take them back. And we can't be too forgiving

THANK YOU!

She's getting stomped out on social media because she isn't calling what it is...a money grab.

No one has to LIKE what you do but if you keep it 100 they have to respect it.

*two cents*

I could care less either way but you right that's all she had to say.

If I was in her postition and the money was too much to pass on I would've not said anything, performed, got my bread, then made that clear.

Not some weak ass explanation or acting like you bridging the gap

For once, I'd like to hear someone be honest and just say, "Fuck it, I need the money." I would TOTALLY respect that. All of this "We can't be present if we're silent." nonsense is bullshit. You're not going there to engage Trump on social issues within our community, you're going there to sing a few songs and dance.

EXACTLY

This is why she's getting DRAGGED on social media. Chrisette posted a Letter cherry picking Dr King quotes to justify why she's extending a "bridge" (her words lol) to Trump and people saw threw that bullshit. That's what made her "mentions" worse. Not a good look if shes trying to promote a new album.

If that response letter was her management's idea, basically a case of DUMB and DUMBER

Of course you don't have it, cos facts and actually knowing what you're talking about has never been in any of your posts. Ever.
Now spewing bullshit, about a board you choose to visit everyday, oh you got that shit on lock.
Lol I'm not gonna go back and forth with you on that 750k cuz it's something I have no way of showing you concrete proof of, so as far as that's concerned , you can call bullshit. My source is 3rd hand so it may very well be bullshit. I can admit that just so anyone reading can decide on their own. It probably wasn't a good thing to spread without evidence. I'm a big believer in that , so I'll concede that point to you. All good. I'm not hurt about it.

And I like coming to the board for certain things. I'm just calling bullshit on all you moralizers spouting integrity and how all money ain't good money and reminding you of where we are ALL at lol. And that fact is irrefutable , my friend. I'm admitting guilt right along with you which is also why I ain't the one pointing fingers at this woman and yapping about her for singing at the inauguration. We all right here, are we not? And you're even calling the black woman a bitch just because she's doing something you don't like that will have no effect on your money, no effect on your kids , no effect on your life. Those are facts. Eat it just like I'm gonna eat that 750k post.

She shouldn't have to deal with any backlash from anyone, thats the point. But of course if we're living in the parallel universe where people really think her performing has anything to do with honoring Trump and betraying her people (how , Ill never know) then of course , she has to know that there are people that stupid out there and be prepared to deal with their hypocrisy.

You two make valid points but you can't side step the fact that she's a "celeb" doing something on a global stage...

As a black woman....

For a president who is a best a sexist bigot at worst a misogynistic racist....

So, she can do whatever the fuck she wants but to think they're ain't going to be a couple of 'What the fuck' from blacks and women alike is unrealistic.

As to her response, "Fuck yall, I'm going to pick up this money they dropping" would have been more palatable then what she put out. Hell, saying nothing would have been better.

As to people "knowing" her work is a one two combo; you choose this stage within this context to reintroduce yourself while your core (sole) audience is mainly black and female? Good luck.

Personally I don't give a fuck outside of what I said below and earlier in this thread...

*two cents*

I know that within the current paradigm of everybody on social media and shit who buy a certain narrative , she should totally expect backlash and clearly she was prepared and is dealing with it.

She Agreed to perform. Once people found out (which she knew they would) they Pitched a bitch about it, all this shit aboht how they don't respect her.

Then she gave her reason (which I find stupid but whatever. It's her reasons. ) the same crwod says "we would respect you more if you just said you want the money!"

Lol thats just pure bullshit. All these people taking political shit too personal.

The way I see it, of Barack Obama can stand up there and shake hands with Trump and wish him well, she can go sing. I know now every black politician was cool with going because of his remarks to John Lewis, but SOME went. So they all make their own decisions.and so does she. If someone can tell me what her singing for 25 mins is gonna mean even 2 mins after she gets off that stage that would effect us as people , I would gladly pick up my pitchfork too.

Obama dealt with Hillary and Billl Race baiting the shit out of him in 08 and then invited her to be on the staff. That's politics. People go to jobs they hate with racist people every day. That's life. So I don't give a fuck about what she's doing and i see it as a totally misplaced anger.

CHRISETTE MICHELE SAYS BLACKS SHOULDN'T MARCH AND BOYCOTT, BUT BE 'CIVILIZED'
http://www.centrictv.com/entertainm...cks-shouldnt-boycott-should-be-civilized.html

See with me and many others you don't get put into the "coon" category off a one off instance unless it's just that bad. Which performing at a presidential inauguration for a large sum of money isn't to me at all. But when you find your name in the middle of bullshit like the article you posted here combined with other fuckery? That's how you can make the leap into that status

As well as being a #AllLivesMatter advocate in the face of people mobilizing, strategizing, and networking against the terrorism of police killings and brutality

She's prob one of those "Let's just pray on it, y'all" lol

quote-you-can-pray-until-you-faint-but-unless-you-get-up-and-try-to-do-something-god-is-not-fannie-lou-hamer-68-79-96.jpg

According to Chrisette, victims (of police butality and/or murder) need to "be civilized", so the crooked cops can have a change of heart about blowing your face off during a traffic stop

Maybe shes finds FauxNews talking points to be cool :dunno:

Chrisette Michele defends inauguration participation but doesn’t perform as scheduled

Patchogue native Chrisette Michele did not perform as planned Thursday as part of the “Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration” at the Lincoln Memorial, along with country singer Toby Keith and rockers 3 Doors Down.

Michele’s management told Newsday Thursday morning that she was expected to perform later that day. However, The Grammy winner is now expected to be part of the official presidential inaugural balls on Friday. A call and email to Michele’s manager for further clarification Thursday evening were not returned.

Michele defended her decision to be part of Donald Trump’s inauguration celebrations, saying that she wants to help heal the country.

“This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us,” Michele wrote in a statement on her Rich Hipster website. “Today, I hope that Great Moments begin in peaceful & progressive conversation. I am willing to be a bridge. I don’t mind ‘These Stones,’ if they allow me to be a voice for the voiceless.”

Those “stones” Michele referred to were flying quickly at the Grammy-winning R&B singer Wednesday, as word leaked out about her participation in the inauguration and an overwhelming number of fans asked her to reconsider. Director Spike Lee wrote on Instagram Thursday that he was thinking of using Michele’s song “Black Girl Magic” in his upcoming Netflix series “She’s Gotta Have It,” but after her involvement in the inauguration he no longer will. The Roots’ drummer Questlove tweeted that he would pay Michele’s appearance fee if she opted not to perform.

However, Michele’s statement made it clear that this wasn’t about money. “”My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us,” she wrote. “I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain ... I am here. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ‘Our lives begin to end, the day we become silent about what matters.’ I am here, representing you, because this is what matters.”

Michele had canceled a gig scheduled for Thursday night at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ.

Michele scored a No. 1 album with “Epiphany” and landed a Grammy for best urban/alternative performance in 2009. The in-demand collaborator of Jay Z and Rick Ross released her fifth album, “Milestone,” last year on her own label, Rich Hipster.

Updated: Chrisette Michele Loses Netflix Deal After Trump Performance

chrisettemichele.jpg

What’s the cost of playing Trump’s Inauguration? For Chrisette Michele, it’s a major lost opportunity involving Netflix. And that’s just the beginning.

Updated, Friday PM. Is she actually playing? Chrisette Michele’s performance slot remains uncertain, and she didn’t appear in the lineup for Thursday’s ‘Make America Great Again! Welcome Celebration’. That suggests a performance at some other portion of the Inauguration, or a last-minute cancellation.

Stay tuned.

Jennifer Holliday cancelled her Trump Inauguration gig after 24 hours. Even the ‘B Street Band,’ a Bruce Springsteen cover group, canceled under extreme pressure from fans.

Chrisette Michele, a late-stage addition, decided not to back out. Now, the talented Grammy-winning artist is testing exactly what that means for her career. According to information confirmed Thursday night, director Spike Lee has removed Chrisette Michele’s song from his upcoming Netflix remake of ‘She’s Gotta Have It.”

Here’s Spike Lee’s irate Instagram blast on the matter:

“Good Morning Folks. I Wuz Sorry To Read That ‘Sistuh Girl’ Is Singin’ At DT’s Inauguration (And To Use His Fav Word-SAD),” Lee wrote on Instagram. “I Wuz Thinkin’ ’bout Using Chrisette’s Song- BLACK GIRL MAGIC In My Netflix Series SHE’S GOTTA HAVE IT…. NOT ANYMORE. And Dat’s Da Truth, Ruth.”

$750,000 paycheck?

As for the Trump performance, the gig was first disclosed on Thursday. That is, less than 24 hours before the starting bell. According to rumors, that was intentional, with multiple artists kept under wraps to avoid last-second cancellations. Sam Moore of soul legends Sam & Dave, who just completed his Trump performance on Thursday evening, may also have given similar treatment.

But despite the late-stage announcement, Michele fans were overwhelmingly vocal and irate. After disclosing the gig, rumors circulated that the singer was paid $750,000 to play the show (her manager hasn’t responded to DMN). In Chrisette Michele’s private Twitter hell, the singer was accosted for selling out, supporting a racist, and dishonoring black history.

On that last point, critics were especially irate over Michele’s use of a quotation from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., to defend her decision. Here’s the statement that Michele offered, an olive branch that was quickly torched by inflamed protesters:

My heart is broken for our country, for the hopes of our children, for the fights of those who came before us.

I cry at the thought that Black History, American History might be in vain.

This country has had great moments. God has shined His light upon us.

Career Suicide?
Chrisette Michele isn’t a household name, though she certainly has credibility within r&b and rap. And you’ve probably heard her singing on tracks by Jay Z, the Roots, Wale, Nas, Rick Ross, or John Legend, among others.

Now, the question is whether Michele will find herself blackballed by those collaborators in the future. Indeed, that was a pressing consideration for Broadway star Jennifer Holliday, who quickly backed out after career retribution became a serious possibility.

More as this develops.

so she got the backlash of performing without performing.

i said earlier i hope it was worth the payday but now she may not get paid either

as a fan extremely disappointed.
how you quote MLK in defending your decision to support someone who is the complete opposite of him and everything he stood for?
earlier this week he attacked someone that stood on the front lines with MLK

For once, I'd like to hear someone be honest and just say, "Fuck it, I need the money." I would TOTALLY respect that. All of this "We can't be present if we're silent." nonsense is bullshit. I agree with all of what you said except the part in red. I wouldn't respect it. Her income is on the lower end of the scale as well-known singers go. But $10K a performance is nothing to sneeze at. 10 performances a year is $100,000. What is the price of integrity - of selling one's soul? What amount will a Chrisette performance command going forward?

I like watching you guys and all of Black twitter go through their fake outrage process. Gonna try and remember to bring this thread back up in a month lol.

Yall sound like women who say "I would respect you if you just told me the truth" as if they wasn't gonna get mad and bitch even at the truth
It's fake outrage because you say it is? Whatever man. lol

I changed my mind, if it were up to me, if Chrisette goes through with this performance, she should lose her black card.

This shit is embarrassing.

How the fuck do you go up there, turn your back on all the clamoring from the black community, for a check that will likely be gone in a year's time?
Exactly. One has to think long term. Money goes fast. What good is is this performance if that's your last check you receive as an entertainer?

Chrisette is not hot right now - but she is talented, without question. She is far from forgotten. We cannot gauge her success on comparing her with people like Rihanna or Beyonce. She has (she had) a loyal base, just like most neo-soul artists whom the music industry doesn't push. No neo-soul artist is eating the finest cuisine right now. So she's on par with the rest who keep pushing and still have a career and can fill seats - esp overseas. She is young enough that a career resurrection was possible. All it takes is a hit song. But now...
