****Chrisette Michele Reportedly Will Perform At Trump's Inauguration****

nice try...but nope

first off again no one ASKED her (or wants or needs) to do this...

so this is HER choice (and this is NOT the FIRST time she has been suspect)

whatever happens she cannot DICTATE our response

even on the the foundations of ART...she releases a song paints a picture does a dance reads a poem in public?

She doing so for a REACTION.

SHE cannot dictate or control that reaction she is simply doing something to illicit SOME TYPE of reaction.

NO ONE is forcing her to perform art or NOT perform art

It is her right.

But there are consequences and repercussions for everything.

Cause by Lil Mo "logic"?

What if she sings badly and messes up? What then?

Can we THEN berate her?

The QUALITY of her work doesn't matter...its the ACTION the ART itself that matters.

And the picture Chrisette is painting?

No wants to see and comes with a price.

And if she is not willing to pay?

Sit your ass down.

For once, I'd like to hear someone be honest and just say, "Fuck it, I need the money." I would TOTALLY respect that. All of this "We can't be present if we're silent." nonsense is bullshit. You're not going there to engage Trump on social issues within our community, you're going there to sing a few songs and dance.

Again show me proof of YOUR claim that bitch got 750k for singing for your rapist president.
aaaah, I don't have it actually. I got the word from someone else, so it may just be a wreckless quote. If I get confirmation I'll bring it to you. But the evidence of how much of a hypocrite anyone talking shit about ol girl on THIS board is right before you my friend, and ya know it lol

edit: I got the evidence but it's still from a source that I couldn't tell ya. It's word from a friend of a friend of a friend. So I believe it, but you don't have to.

I got a question...

should an artist be willing to DIE for their ART?

Did NWA fully understand the significance of F*ck the police?

Would they be willing to suffer like they did if they had known BEFORE hand?

What about Ice T with Cop Killer?

Luke and 2 Live Crew going before the Supreme Court?

Nas' Hate Me Now video etc...

Or Madonna with her video with the Black Jesus?

Is that ART or SENSATIONALISM?

(and is there a difference?)

Should any artist even complain or explain themselves?

Shouldn't they just DO the ART?

Shouldn't this woman just SING the f*cking song and just be prepared for whatever comes?

I agree, I think thats stupid. But people do crack me up when they get mad at the response and say "IF SHE ONLY SAID THIS I WOULDNT BE MAD"- when they was already fake mad in the first place, which caused her to respond with that dumb shit. I don't care about her going to sing a song. I wonder what people think her singing at his inauguration is gonna do.

It's real easy for US to turn down HER money. If a person told me, "Yo, I'm gonna do the Inauguration. The money's great, and I think it'll be fun. Besides, I ain't never done no shit like that." I would respect the fuck out of them! If they came to me a week later and said, "Yeah, I changed my mind. I'm getting killed on Twitter!" I can't respect that person anymore.

If a person is willing to die for their art, fine, but it shouldn't be a prerequisite. Look at the artists you named. They were willing to push the boundaries, because they're built like that. A lot of artists aren't in it to piss people off, they just wanna live their dream and make a living doing it. If they want to do something that they know is not going to be accepted by their audience, then they should stick to their guns and accept the backlash. As for sensationalism, I think it's just another form of art. I have a bigger problem with the person that changed their mind because of Black Twitter, than the person that "sold out".

I don't have a problem with the collective having an issue with her performing for Donald Trump. I get it - its Donald Trump. But as I've said repeatedly, I have a serious problem with the only signs of a pulse from the COLLECTIVE being short-term, and reactive.

?
Also, make no mistake about it, we know what we're doing when we go into the studio, and we realize how it's going to be taken. It's like when a person says, "I had to pray on it first." They KNOW they're getting ready to do something foul, stupid, piss people off, or that goes against everything they've been taught. What did LBJ say when when signed the Civil Rights bill? "Well, there goes the south.", because he knew. When we do some ill shit in the studio, we look around and say, "Well, THAT'S gonna go over well!", because we know. 2 Live knew, Ice T knew, and so did Prince, Madonna, Springsteen, and NWA.

THANK YOU!

She's getting stomped out on social media because she isn't calling what it is...a money grab.

No one has to LIKE what you do but if you keep it 100 they have to respect it.

bullshit. her statement is in RESPONSE to the fake backlash. Look how quickly yall forget already lol.

I don't agree with her statement, but I also call bullshit on the idiots on twitter in the first place.

I like watching you guys and all of Black twitter go through their fake outrage process. Gonna try and remember to bring this thread back up in a month lol.

Yall sound like women who say "I would respect you if you just told me the truth" as if they wasn't gonna get mad and bitch even at the truth

Exactly! Especially since people were saying that black people wasn't really fucking with her no more. If that was the case, what the fuck are you upset about?

You two make valid points but you can't side step the fact that she's a "celeb" doing something on a global stage...

As a black woman....

For a president who is a best a sexist bigot at worst a misogynistic racist....

So, she can do whatever the fuck she wants but to think they're ain't going to be a couple of 'What the fuck' from blacks and women alike is unrealistic.

As to her response, "Fuck yall, I'm going to pick up this money they dropping" would have been more palatable then what she put out. Hell, saying nothing would have been better.

As to people "knowing" her work is a one two combo; you choose this stage within this context to reintroduce yourself while your core (sole) audience is mainly black and female? Good luck.

Personally I don't give a fuck outside of what I said below and earlier in this thread...

The means matter pimp.

I wish people would stop using that quote "ends justify the means" in efforts to insulate themselves from ridicule and/or judgement for some fuck shit they've done or about to do.

People who are fully accountable for their actions, own them completely, or truly don't give a fuck NEVER say that....Only the guilty who can't carry the load of the decisions they made to get to the end....

Of and fuck anyone who says "Only God can judge me". That's some equally cowardly shit.

*two cents*

You're right to a degree and I honestly can't speak for her situation.

However, it always seems like people who use those two quotes aren't doing any shit worthy of the quotes or worth 'justifying'. They just doing something 'quick and dirty' when there were other options available.

It's more like "I did that fuck shit so I could do something I really WANTED to do...DONT JUDGE ME!!!", as opposed to "I had no other choice it was going to have to be this or that was never going to happen. Judge me it you want but it is what it is."

It's like Zen: if you have to say "The ends justify the means " or "Only God can judge me" then it probably didn't. A war torn refugee swimming through a river of shit to escape their soul crushing circumstances does not give enough of a fuck about anyone else's judgement or worries about "justifying" anything but a bitch getting shat and pissed on in Dubai feels the need to write a "I'm not a do nothing bitch" manifesto on her Instagram "justifying" her Dookie excursions so she can rock the latest fashion.

IMO, if a person feels they have to preface a situation with those two quotes than the situation wasn't that crucial thus not worthy of the quotes in the first place.

I changed my mind, if it were up to me, if Chrisette goes through with this performance, she should lose her black card.

This shit is embarrassing.

How the fuck do you go up there, turn your back on all the clamoring from the black community, for a check that will likely be gone in a year's time?

Of course you don't have it, cos facts and actually knowing what you're talking about has never been in any of your posts. Ever.
Now spewing bullshit, about a board you choose to visit everyday, oh you got that shit on lock.

Again, she has to do what she feels is best for her, BUT she also has to be prepared to deal with the backlash. I'm not too versed on her career, so I wouldn't know, but I'm hearing black people say that "we" were pretty much done with her anyway. If that's the case, why the outrage?

Because we're done with her music, doesn't mean we're done with her as a member of a black community. Being a successful music artist is a privilege. . .

. . . but being a black person is an immutable fact.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but if we're done with her music, and this is her livelihood, how is she to make a living? Of, course I'm being Satan's advocate, but I'd be lying if I said that this didn't fascinate me on some level. So far, I've asked a few friends, and you're the only one that's been able to answer that question.
