if you look at the video again at 3:01 shorty was expecting something to be around the corner. she leaned and braced for something but when nothing happened she went back to rapping but was expecting something. she was driving slowly at the time NOT PARKED still in drive and jumped out in parked! meaning she could have just pulled off. I saw the helicopter view and she had a whole alley to pull forward and drive off. why would jump out be anyones first decision?! makes no sense. Nah, they don't value an education. I grew up in the Detroit Public School system. My parents valued me learning and guess what, I did well. It didn't matter if the building wasn't state of the art or how old the books were. It's all about priorities.
I don't even think they can blame what's going on in the Chi on lack of jobs either. I know a supervisor at the Ford plant there and niggas are gang banging in the plant making 60k a year with full benefits.

Both of my parents came from poverty. My mom grew up in a dysfunctional home and my Dad never had a father. They made mistakes along the way but when you have an inherent desire to be something you can. Everybody knows the importance of an education but don't want to work hard for it because it isn't glamorous.
It's good people coming up in this shit. Those are the ones we should look out for. But we can't be intellectually dishonest and act like some of these people just ain't shit. You shoot a kid? Fuck you, period. Condoning this behavior isn't helping and is holding back the community. We're the only people that make excuses for this segment of our community.

That's the biggest stand out part. Yes, conditions set against us are a factor but some responsibility needs to be put on us as well.
Fam, Frederick Douglass is the greatest orator of all-time and was a slave. Look what Phyllis Wheatley did when she had an opportunity to get an education. It was so many of us that excelled in conditions much worse than what we're in now. Our social media usage is higher than anyone else but they can't use the internet to learn.
While I agree with you that we've failed on many levels when it comes to having the "fire in our belly" our ancestors had - we have to look though to many of the factors "forced upon us" and "created by us". I credit my family as well for much of my success, my father came to America with $300 dollars and no place to live and retired with 5 homes.
Having children we aren't prepared to raise is one of the biggest factors IMO. If a high school drop out has 2-3 kids and only knows struggle, she passes that same struggle onto her children who know no other way except to repeat the same pattern. Fix that issue and a lot of this will go away.
Everyone doesn't know the importance of an education. Same as common sense isn't common. No one is condoning this behavior. But I think some try to downplay the reality in these communities. There are so many variables in play that are overlooked. (Drug use, Poverty, Easy access to guns but not jobs, lack of healthy food options, lack of grown men who the kids can look up to, inadequate housing, systemic racist policies from the past and present, lack of resources, etc.

You're right. I think one concept our community is missing that was once prominent is shaming. We used to make the drug dealers, hoes, uneducated, broken families, etc. feel shamed. Now all of it is glamourized as the new norm. It used to be if teenager was pregnant, she'd get sent away to live with an aunt. Now she posts her stomach on Facebook lol.
Going back to your original point, whose fault is it they don't know the importance of an education? Even our enslaved ancestors did so I'm just confused.
Thug mentality... The only thing the majority of blacks know is the street & club life.
Today we care more about the feelings of the people who are failing than the feelings of the victims who the failures often target.
