There are Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many ifs in your reply- which is my point. We're very quick to dismiss one party before all the if's have been answered. Biker was Hispanic... They're disposable too, same as black to some. I never said the bikers were right... In any of my posts, I've always maintained the video isn't black and white. But some of y'all- maybe not you- are so quick to assume the absolute worst its disturbing.

This was not a gang. There was a method to there madness (not saying it was right). And I'm not dismissing this dude didn't suffer from severe road rage.

But the ifs were appropriate. Had had no business out there, plain and simple. A dude with a history of making poor decisions made one that cost him his legs. Did you hear me? He had no business out there with no license, AND he had no business blocking the car's path like that, another poor decision. Now as far as the "road rage" is concerned, the driver stopped, so when did the "rage" kick in??? That will be hard to prove no matter what the investigation comes up with.

The Lawrence motor*cyclist struck and paralyzed as a desperate SUV driver tried to escape the rage of other bikers in New York on Sunday has a six-page criminal record that began at age 12 with a negligent driving charge and includes jail time for drugs, guns, resisting arrest and other convictions, according to court records.

Edwin Mieses, 32, never got a driver’s license in the Bay State, the Registry of Motor Vehicles said, but he was frequently nabbed behind the wheel, and even sentenced to jail for driving without a license, court records show. Mieses has a pending case out of Lawrence District Court for driving suspended, subsequent offense, said Carrie Kimball Monihan, spokeswoman for the Essex County District Attorney’s Office. Mieses also has 15 guilty findings for criminal offenses including distribution of cocaine, possession of a firearm without a permit, knowingly receiving stolen property, resisting arrest and several motor vehicle violations, court records show.

Mieses was sentenced to jail in 2004 for distribution of cocaine, in 2001 for operating without a license, in 2000 for possession of a firearm, and in 1999 for possession of marijuana, receiving stolen property, destruction of property and attaching plates, according to court records.

Attempts yesterday to reach Mieses’ girlfriend, mother, father and lawyer were unsuccessful.

A Facebook page called “Justice for Jay Meezee” says Mieses was paralyzed after he was run over and remains hospitalized. Mieses has been identified by The Associated Press and other media outlets as the biker who was run over.

The confrontation spiraled from a minor crash between a motorbike and the SUV. A biker’s helmet video showed one biker smashing SUV driver Alexian Lien’s window with his helmet, pulling him out and beating him. Lien’s wife, in the SUV with their child, said yesterday they feared for their lives.

New York (CNN) -- Authorities say they've identified and are closer to finding one of the main bikers that played a role in the beating of a New York SUV driver, an act that was captured on tape and sparked national outrage.

The biker being sought is suspected of bashing in the SUV driver's window, a law enforcement official with knowledge of the investigation told CNN late Thursday.

The suspect was not in custody but may soon be, the official said.

The incident took place on Manhattan's West Side Highway on Sunday. Police said a man driving a Range Rover struck a motorcyclist who had slowed.

Possible reckless pattern among bikers
Bikers attack SUV in NYC

Previous reporting indicated that the impact broke the motorcyclist's leg, but New York police Sgt. Lee Jones said Wednesday that the biker sustained only minor injuries.

Alexian Lien, the driver, pulled over and was surrounded by other bikers, part of a group called Hollywood Stuntz. They hit the vehicle and spiked its tires, police said.

The driver pulled away, plowing into three more bikers, including Edwin Mieses, who was critically injured.

The bikers chased him. Once he was stuck in traffic, they cornered the SUV. The video shows one biker, the one being sought by police, using his helmet to smash the driver's-side window.

Police said the bikers dragged Lien out of the SUV and beat him. His wife and daughter were unharmed.

Lien was treated at a local hospital for slashes to his face.

Lien's family released a statement Thursday through its attorneys, saying he was "forced under the circumstances to take the actions that he did in order to protect the lives of our entire family."

He and his wife were out to celebrate their wedding anniversary with their daughter when the incident happened, according to the statement.

"We know in our hearts that we could not have done anything differently, and we believe that anyone faced with this sort of grave danger would have taken the same course of action in order to protect their family," the statement said.

Seeking suspects

Police have not said that they are seeking any charges against Lien.

But they arrested Christopher Cruz, who is seen slowing in front of the Range Rover before he was bumped.

Cruz, 28, was in court Wednesday on misdemeanor charges including reckless driving. Cruz's attorney told reporters that his client is not guilty.

Cruz was to be released after posting $1,500 cash bail and a $15,000 insurance bond. In addition, his license was suspended, and he was ordered to surrender his passport.

"His motorcycle was struck, and he stood right there," Cruz's attorney H. Benjamin Perez said. "He never assaulted this man. He never tried to assault him in any way. And he does not know any of the other motorcyclists who were involved in this beating."

A second arrested biker was released Wednesday when authorities determined that he may have been trying to help.

Allen Edwards, 42, originally faced charges of reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing, police said.

And they are seeking other potential suspects.

Other victims

Mieses' family says the real victim of the confrontation is the hospitalized biker.

"All of his ribs are fractured. His lungs are so badly bruised that he's still on a ventilator," Yolanda Santiago, his mother, told CNN affiliate WCBS.

His wife, Dayana, told CNN affiliate WBZ that Mieses got off his bike to help the SUV driver.

"And whatever he did, he got scared, he peeled off, and he paralyzed my husband on the way," she said.

Hells Angels rip biker’s highway beatdown

hells-copy.jpg

Even the Hells Angels are appalled by a motorcycle gang’s savage beatdown of a father on the West Side Highway — saying the heartless brutes crossed a line when they messed with a family.

“That kind of behavior is unacceptable — and with a kid in the car, nonetheless! I have a 3-year-old niece,” said one biker who was hanging out at the Hells Angels’ East Village headquarters Thursday.

He slammed the thugs for taking the law into their own hands by chasing down and beating Internet executive Alexian Lien, 33, on Sunday after a fender bender on the highway.

“You get the name and license plate and let the cops deal with it. But violence? I don’t condone that,” the biker said.

“If that had been my kid and I was the one driving . . .” he said before stopping himself.

“It’s always a few people who give us all a bad name.”

And giving the Hells Angels a bad name is quite a feat, since the menacing motorcycle club has long been synonymous with high-octane crime and violence.

The motorcycle gangsters earned their bloodthirsty reputation in 1969, when a Hells Angels member stabbed a man to death during a Rolling Stones concert at the Altamont Speedway in California.

The violence didn’t stop in the ’60s.

In 2000, a senior member of the gang allegedly dragged a woman in into a car in Australia and held her hostage, using her as a sex slave for five days with the help of several others.

In New York City, 52-year-old Roberta Shalaby was beaten into a coma allegedly by Hells Angels members after she tried to push her way into the gang’s East Village headquarters in 2007.

A few years later, members of the same gang allegedly shot and killed a fellow Hells Angel in a cemetery in San Jose, Calif.

On Sunday, Lien became the target of a different pack of bikers after accidently bumping one of their bikes in his Range Rover.

The accident prompted a terrifying four-mile chase that ended with the motor-psychos smashing the window of the SUV and badly beating Lien as his wife and 2-year-old child watched.

Lien was admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital and was released the same day.

Allowing Some Space -
Use the "two second rule". Choose an object near or above the road ahead. As the vehicle ahead passes it, count aloud, slowly, "one thousand one, one thousand two." If you reach the object before you finish counting, you are following too closely. Allow the other vehicle to get further ahead.

In bad weather, increase the count to three or four seconds for extra space. §1129

Cops set to arrest biker thug No. 1
chromehelmetbiker.jpg

Police say they've found the biker who beat and knifed the driver of an SUV after a chase through Manhattan.

Police have finally identified the most vicious of the “motor psychos” — the man who allegedly ripped a driver out of his car and beat him in front of his family after a wild chase on the West Side Highway, The Post has learned.

Reginald Chance, 38, of Brooklyn, has lawyered up and is expected to surrender by Friday, according to two law-enforcement sources speaking on condition of anonymity.

Chance is the top target from Sunday’s shocking motorcycle road rage attack, an assault that left Alexian Lien, 33, pummeled and bleeding on the pavement as his wife and 2-year-old daughter cowered in their black Range Rover.

Video taken by the helmet-mounted camera of biker Kevin Bresloff shows Chance allegedly committing the bulk of the violence once Lien’s Range Rover is forced to a stop near 178th Street.

Bresloff, 37, of Bellport, LI, had his camera rolling as Lien’s car is surrounded by revving motorcycles and as Chance removes his chrome-colored helmet and uses it to bash the driver’s-side window.

Just before Chance allegedly pulls Lien from the car, Bresloff’s video abruptly ends — turned off, cops say, so as to avoid creating an incriminating record of the ensuing assault.

Cops aren’t buying Bresloff’s claim that his camera “accidently” shut off, another law-enforcement source said.

Chance’s Facebook page says he is from Guyana and that he works as a driver and supervisor for Bimmy’s sandwich shop in Queens.

Meanwhile, newly surfaced videos and photographs, taken at the scene of the attack by neighbors and drivers, could incriminate other bikers — including some who told cops they were not involved in the attack.

One new photo, which ran on The Post’s front page Thursday, has become key evidence contradicting the claims of several bikers who had previously claimed to cops they were not involved, a source said.

Meanwhile, mayoral hopeful Joe Lhota blamed the stop-and-frisk crackdown for so impeding cops that outlaw motorcycle gangs are able to rampage freely.

“These anti-police laws have had a chilling effect among the NYPD,” the Republican candidate told The Post Thursday.

Recent City Council action and a ruling by federal Judge Shira Scheindlin — both hamstringing cops in the name of fighting racial profiling — have “emboldened criminals and made us less safe,” Lhota said.

“We have seen an increase in shootings, rapes and in the past few days a horrific attack on a father in front of his family and five people stabbed on the Upper West Side,” Lhota said.

“These anti-police laws have had a chilling effect among the NYPD,” he added.

Democrat Bill de Blasio, meanwhile, has urged that cops visit motorcycle clubs and talk to bikers.

“We have to be very tough on this one — this is an unacceptable state of affairs,” de Blasio said.

Biker organizer taunted cops… from mom’s house

hollywoodstuntztwitter.jpg

The profile photo for the @hollywoodstuntz Twitter page. A neighbor says it's biker organizer Lao on the bike.
The organizer of the wild motorbike rally that terrorized a West Side family runs a website taunting the NYPD — from the safety of his mommy’s home in Queens, The Post has learned.

Jamie Lao, 29, has been orchestrating the annual group “crotch rocket” rides through city streets since at least 2007 through his now-suspended websites, HollywoodStuntz.net and Blockstarzent.net, which are registered to his parents’ Ozone Park home.

This year’s motorcycle rager led to the beatdown of Alexian Lien in front of his horrified wife and toddler.

Leo bragged just before a 2010 event that he had “no worries from the NYPD” and has posted scores of YouTube videos showing hundreds of bikers tearing down city streets en masse, popping wheelies and revving their engines as they go, with nary a cop in sight.

Lao’s Twitter account, @hollywoodstuntz, features a picture of a rider on a blue Yamaha, its front wheel raised defiantly to the sky with an NYPD squad car in the background.

A neighbor said it is Lao in the photo.

“It’s not his fault,” Lao’s dad, Juan, said of Sunday’s violence, defending his son, who scampered through a back entrance of the home Thursday and hid in the house to avoid a reporter.

Apparently more comfortable behind a computer screen, Lao hit Facebook, Twitter and forums like bikenightusa.com, stuntlife.com and stuntride.com, urging bikers across the country to attend his annual “Hollywood’s Block Party” and “tear up the streets.”

Asked if his son was involved in the incident, Juan Lao said Jamie didn’t attend, adding “you’re just wasting your time.”

But several neighbors said the rally started at the Lao’s two-family house on 103rd Avenue.

“There was about 300-400 bikes,” said one neighbor who asked not to be named. “It’s disturbing to see 300 bikes, the neighbors were terrified. All the smoke went into the houses. Everybody was traumatized.”

Another said bikers congregated at the Lao’s “all day long.”

“They were very noisey and they were on top of the cars and everywhere. It was terrible.”

“Oh my god I hate them. For the past 4-5 years he’s been an absolute nuisance. They are annoying as hell,” said neighbor Jennifer Rodriguez, 36. She claims Lao and his biker buddies have terrorized her family.

“It’s been a nightmare. My mom is handicapped and my dad has a heart condition,” she said. “They [bikers] will go up to her and like play chicken, trying to scare her.”

“Sunday the whole street was covered,” Rodriguez said. “They cover all the sidewalks. People with kids and with dogs, they go right up to them like they are trying to scare them. You can’t say anything or else they will start a fight. I had to go out on Sunday and I had to wait 20 minutes until they left.”

“They scratch cars, they bump into them, they have no regard.”

Retired firefighter Distinio Lois, 77, defended Lao.

“He’s a good kid. He’s a motorcycle enthusiast. I have known the family for years, they are good, hard working people,” Distinio said. “You can’t help if there is a bad apple in the group. If a friend did what they did, he’s not responsible. You can’t turn around the blame if he’s the head [of the rally.]“

“They never bother anybody,” he said of the bikers that come to the house every year. “They are respectful, they don’t leave anything behind. It’s just a social gathering until they go away.”

On his website, Lao brags that he is “on his way to stardom” and calls his events an opportunity to “show off the most insane stunts the thousands of bystanders have ever seen.”

A YouTube video of Lao’s 2012 NYC rally depicts hundreds of bikers – men and women – on motorcycles and three-wheeled ATVs speeding through Midtown in broad daylight, weaving through both lanes of traffic, popping wheelies and blowing through red lights as stunned pedestrians gaped from the sidewalks.

This year, cops — who confirmed that Hollywood Stuntz organized Sunday’s terror ride — were waiting for the mob and prevented them from taking over Times Square, busting several and confiscating a number of motorcycles.

Lao also posted footage of a Halloween ride from last year, where riders roared from Brooklyn to Manhattan, hogging roads and swerving dangerously close to cars.

Neighbors said they didn’t see the NYPD outside Lao’s house Sunday – but cops did make a stop at Charlie’s Chop Shop, an Astoria motorcycle shop where Lao and his pals, including rapper Meek Mills, are regulars.

On Thursday, Charlie’s had its gates pulled down and appeared closed, but bikers and mechanics were in and out of the store.

“There were dozens of cops here on Sunday,” said Jimmy Katsaros, 50, who works next door at GoPro, a plumbing firl. “They pulled in looking to check out the chop shop…There were guys on bikes right outside and they sped off.

“They didn’t want any part of those cops.”

“This is very bad for everyone involved,” said another GoPro worker. “It’s all wrong.”

Henry Jiang, 21, pulled up to Charlie’s on his Kawasaki Ninja 300. He said he isn’t affiliated with the Hollywood Stuntz crew, but defended them and blamed the road rage on Lien.

“The media has been spinning it in a way that makes all motorcyclists look bad,” he said.

“The entire situation could have been handled differently. I don’t roll with that crew [Hollywood Stuntz] but I feel that they shouldn’t be labeled as thugs because of a few bad apples. The biker that got the most hurt was innocent.

“ You shouldn’t judge a person because they are on a bike. There are lots if reckless drivers in cars too.”

“I feel that most of the fault was with the driver of the SUV. Maybe it could have all been talked out. He didn’t have to hit the gas and take out everyone. That was reckless.”

Bikers planned wild Times Square rally
bikersthebest.jpg

Sunday’s attack by motorcyclists on a Manhattan motorist was supposed to be a wild rally through Times Square, like one from last year caught on a shocking YouTube video.

On Aug. 24, 2012, hundreds of bikers – men and women – on motorcycles and three-wheeled ATVs sped through Midtown in broad daylight, weaving through both lanes of traffic, popping wheelies and blowing through red lights as stunned pedestrians gaped from the sidewalks.

The crazed bikers ignored traffic laws, drove south in northbound lanes and rocketed through bike and bus lanes with impunity – and without a cop in sight.

The mob planned a similar rally Sunday, but the NYPD was waiting for them and prevented them from taking over Times Square, busting several and confiscating a number of motorcycles.

Comments on the YouTube video promoted this year’s rally for “Sept 29 hbp 2013,” a week ago.

Since the attack on Alexian Lien and his wife and 2-year-old daughter, many of the comments slammed the bikers.

“Those f–kers should be tried as terrorists,” said one.

“Someone needs to just take a bat to these friggin bikes next time we see them,” added another.

So the biker didn't get over in front of the SUV after riding next to the driver-side window and apply his brakes for no reason (while looking back at him)?

This is why bikers think they can get away with bike-checking.. because the fault is on the person in the rear. Bike/brake-checking is ILLEGAL

Stop trying to make excuses for the bikers. They were COMPLETELY in the wrong but so many in here are getting emotional over it. If you brake checking people there's a change you gonna get hit....especially an SUV.

what exactly is the charge for bike/brake checking? specifically...

i have no excuses for anybody... imop they all idiots and all got what they were looking for...
if u purposely bump a car, u run a chance of throwing them dick beaters up when the vehicles stop.
if u purposely break in front of a car u run a chance of getting hit..
chance was strong that day.....

i actually beg to differ...mob mentality is what the bikers exhibited... strength in numbers... as u see the nypd protected their economic interest (tourist downtown).... and let the bikers have their day...imagine nypd running around causing lawsuits and accidents pursuing bikers(whole diff convo)

New York State Vehicle and Traffic law Section 1212. A "reckless driving" summons can be given when an officer has reasonable cause to believe that a driver "unreasonably" interferes with the free and proper use of a public highway, or "unreasonably" endangers users of a public highway.

so no specific law for bike breaking yet see how it falls in the above law.

well the video, makes his defense all that more expensive....

Exactly... most bikers I've encountered drive responsibly as if they were in a vehicle that can harm themselves or someone else. The ones that stand out and make you shake your head are the idiots who pass in between cars on the dotted lines or pass you like you're standing still while doing 80

Texas Armoring's Viral Response to the NYC Motorcycle/SUV Incident

In the 55 second clip, TAC (Texas Armoring Corporation) shows a man beating on the car window with a
helmet – mirroring the incident in the viral video. However, unlike the window
on Lien’s SUV that smashed after a couple of strikes, the TAC-treated
window doesn’t break – but the helmet does. After the helmet attack, a man with a metal bar takes a few swings. They bounce off the glass as well. In the video, you can see that the iron bar cracks the window slightly,
but does not break through the glass. So the TAC crew sent in a guy with
a pistol to fire on the car at very close range. The view from a camera inside the car shows how the armored windows managed to absorb the impact of the bullets. If
you would like to see the video (and push the viral video count closer
to the magic five million level), click the link below.

(TAC will armor Alexian Lien's vehicle for free if the youtube video gets 5 million views before November 1st!)

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Police are waiting for the man considered the main suspect in the motorcycle road rage case that started on the Henry Hudson Parkway to surrender Friday.

The man is seen in the now-infamous video smashing the driver-side window of Alexian Lien's SUV after a frightening chase.

Eyewitness News has confirmed the suspect is 38 years old and lives in Brooklyn.

Also, police want to speak with two bystanders about what happened, and they have released images of the witnesses.

CLICK HERE TO SEE THE PHOTOS.

Everything started when the Range Rover bumped a biker on the parkway. As motorcyclists gathered around Lien's vehicle, he took off, running over Edwin Mieses and sparking the chase and vicious assault that followed.

Bikers insist that Lien was the aggressor.

"He drove erratically and bumped the bike on the side," one biker said. "When he bumped that bike on the side, that bike became aggressive because his life was in danger."

Meises' family, which is calling for charges against Lien, is expected to respond to a statement from Lien's wife.

Rosalyn Ng explained why her husband fled the scene and inadvertently drove over Mieses, saying their lives were put in grave danger.

"We were faced with a life-threatening situation, and my husband was forced under the circumstances to take the actions that he did in order to protect the lives of our entire family," Ng said.

She said her family's sympathies went out to Mieses, who broke both legs and suffered spinal injuries that may leave him paralyzed, but said there was no other option than to flee.

"Our fear for our lives was confirmed when the incident ended with the ruthless and brutal attack on my husband, me, and, most importantly, our 2-year-old child," Ng said. "We know in our hearts that we could not have done anything differently, and we believe that anyone faced with this sort of grave danger would have taken the same course of action in order to protect their family."

The biker involved in the initial accident, Christopher Cruz, is charged with reckless driving and unlawful imprisonment. Prosecutors served notice that they intend to take the case against Cruz to a grand jury, a sign that more serious charges are likely.

A second suspect, Allen Edwards, 42, of Jamaica, Queens, surrendered to police at the 33rd Precinct Tuesday night. It is believed he is the man who punched the rear window of the SUV with his fists at the end of the video.

He was held and questioned overnight Tuesday, and police initially said he would be charged with reckless endangerment, criminal mischief and menacing. But the office declined to prosecute at this time, pending further investigation of the entire incident.

Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).

from nyc...drivers manual...

this is where the road rage occurred....let's not act like the range rover did not see the bike in front...
the drivers decision was to bump the bike ,which set off a chain reaction of events....

trust me i would love to bump alot of cars of the road..
ludacris style but cant...or actually could but id have even higher insurance and no license again

Cut the BS. He was surround by bikes. So even if the dude who decide to jump in front of the SUV and brake didn't get hit. The bikers behind him would have crashed. They had amble room on the left to pass him but they wanted to take over the road to do tricks.

Nah my fight has been against you guys profiling bikers
I havn't seen too many profiling bikers in this thread... one or 2 people never read the reports and started making shit up (a la Footloose)... and a lot just don't understand why and how of what happened... IMO 95% of bikers are thorough (the remaining 5% are split between bat shit crazy or just plain assholes)... but alot of even the most thorough don't THINK -

When groups of bikers brake check 18 wheelers - then I'll give them a pass for that shit those cats pulled on Sun...

1 - Hollywood Stunts sanctioned a group ride / rally, but mad heads are riding illegal bikes (every dirt bike out there is illegal in NYS, and lord knows how many sport bikes didn't have any plates)

2- brake checking any car on the WSHighway / HH pkwy is chickenshit... and to make it worse every biker then stops in the middle of the road after the accident? Try that shit on the BQE or the Conduit...

3. going by the video there was absolutely no reason to brake check the SUV other than to fuk with him - there was like half a mile or more of empty lanes ahead, its not like they needed create room for the group.
