Being black in america confession

Was introduced to a woman last week and without 10 mins after meeting her she went to the bar and while on her way there she asked me "Do you want something Kunta Kente?"

As an immigrant to this country, is that supposed to be some derogatory thing?

:confused::confused::confused:

Ah yes, she didn't know you were Indian:lol: Take it as a complement.

Lame attempt at a joke....

She is the same complexion as me.

C'mon man, Stupidity is universal...

I couldn't even say anything, I was in such shock because I didn't really know what hse was getting at.

She came back later an apologized so she probably meant it in a mean way.

The funny thing is that she might be so right but doesn't know it if you consider what Kunta Kente represented before he became Toby.....

Straight ignorance....I hear and see it all the time..I was reading a thread on SOL where a chick said dude was too fat and too black...Ignorance at it's finest.
Folks like that do you really want to know them?
In my opinion you cant be too black-but people can be too ignorant:hmm:

She totally threw me for a loop.

I was not expecting that shit in 2009...

I'm leaning towards discounting complexion because we are both around the same complexion.....

I'm still comfused but I'll shake it off. I'm just trying to understand where she was coming from.

The sad part is that she was loud, talking a lots of shit about men, life etc... and her friends who was in her 20's was just shaking her head in the affirmative and absorbing this old woman rage/anger/bitterness etc...

Maybe it was the way I was listening to her and some expression that was on my face.....

Peace,

Come on, now. Are you REALLY surprised by this kind of shit?

Honestly, yes......

The shit does not exist in my culture.

We celebrate our "blackness" all year round, in songs, festivals etc...

I don't surround myself with ignorant people but we all had just come from a nice event that was uplifting, just a nice group of black people networking, doing positive things etc.. when she said that unprovoked.

So it shocked me cause culturally I didn't know how to receive it.... as a compliment, to kunta resilience, determination not to get broken etc, or as a diss meaning in her mind my physical features remind her of slave images on TV

i see where this thread is heading. i'll see if it went there when i check this thread later tonight

Peace,

How long have you lived in this country? You've never experienced this before, or heard from others who have?

Peace,

The weight and magnitude of "WORLDWIDE WHITE SUPREMACY" has made people mentally and physically sick.

I hate you had to be exposed to her sickness. But I hope you got up and walked off on her?

BROTHER, where are you from in the "MOTHERLAND"?

Let me put this perspective...

You are out w/ your friends and you are the only african or african american one in the group....Hey "Shaniqua" let me get you a drink...Hey "Tyrone Jenkins" what you drinking on?
Hey "Kunta Kente" do you want something to drink?

I hope that makes sense

A sista doing it....I can only shake my head...
Why is that worse?
