Russia Wasn’t Supposed To Deploy Its 70-Year-Old T-55 Tanks In Direct Attacks. But Then Russia Got Desperate.

0x0.jpg

The reason that’s interesting is that the main operators of T-55s in the south, including the Russian marine corps’ 810th Brigade, normally deploy T-55s as crude mobile howitzers: angling their 100-millimeter main guns high into the air and lobbing shells at targets up to 10 miles away.

The T-55 isn’t a great howitzer. Its sights can’t see out to the gun’s maximum range. The fragile gun barrel won’t last long under the heavy strain of firing a lot of shells fast, like artillery usually does.

Ukrainian Special Ops Destroy Russian-Held Mining Platform in Black Sea: Why It Matters

The operation, carried out in a zone constantly patrolled by the Russian Air Force and Navy, resulted in the capture of important equipment and the destruction of a critical radar antenna.

Details of the Special Operation

The operation was carried out in the zone of constant patrol by the Russian Air Force and Navy.

At night, the boats of the 73rd Marine Center approached the mining platform. After carrying out special actions and cleaning, the fighters replaced the objects.

Subsequently, the combat group withdrew to a safe distance and detonated the platform.

Military says Russian landing ship sunk in Black Sea

Ukraine's military intelligence later shared a video of the attack and said it had been carried out off of the Crimean city of Alupka with Magura V5 naval drones. It claimed that Russian search and rescue operations were unsuccessful.

It is the fourth landing ship from Russia's Black Sea Fleet to be sunk since the beginning of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, according to the U.K. Defense Ministry.

Russia's Defense Ministry claimed earlier on Feb. 14 that it had shot down nine drones overnight, including six over the Black Sea. Local Telegram channels then shared videos of helicopters circling low over the water, appearing to be searching for something.

Kyiv Confirms Ukrainian Drones Destroyed 6 Russian Planes at Air Base, as Many as 3 Sites Blasted

A massive drone attack slammed the Morozovsk airfield in Rostov region taking out planes that Russia uses to target Ukrainian army positions and frontline cities. Three other sites were hit.

According to the Kyiv Post source, "At least six Russian military aircraft were destroyed, and another eight were heavily damaged. In addition to the equipment, about 20 Russian servicemen were either killed or wounded."

"This operation is of paramount importance and will significantly diminish the combat capabilities of the Russian forces," the source added.

Ukraine fired dozens of drones at Russia's southern Rostov region, home to its army headquarters for the military offensive, in the early hours of Friday, Russian officials said.
