Watergate took 2 years because for the entire FIRST YEAR or so…. the Washington Post was the ONLY newspaper in the whole country that was even following the story (on a daily basis)…. and CBS was the ONLY tv station that was doing any sort of followup on articles & stories from the Washington Post.
And this was back when there were only 3 major tv networks. (ABC, NBC & CBS) That's all.
Today we have TONS of cable news shows…. HUNDREDS of channels… MILLIONS of smartphones… and internet websites…. Social Media,
News gets around in a FRACTION of the time.
This won’t take 2 years.

If you have been following recent reports, you would realize that Flynn was in negotiations with the FBI (behind closed doors) for several days, and maybe at least for a week, or even longer. With NO success.
If the Feds were going to grant him immunity, they would have done so already.
(Which means that they probably have enough 'evidence' without his testimony.
)Now the media reporters have gotten word about these FBI negotiations, so they are making tons of phone calls, trying to get more info.
Meanwhile, his Lawyers are desperately trying to get an immunity deal from ANYWHERE.
Flynn's Lawyers could have negotiated with Congress 'behind closed doors' also.
(They ALL have telephones & use email.
There's no need to 'broadcast' any discussions of a deal.)The reality is... the whole act of 'going public' is done out of (last-ditch effort) desperation.
The 'action' itself is desperate
... But they cannot make the 'tone' of the letter sound desperate ... or they will lose any small amount of 'leverage' they have left to use.
