BOYZ IN DA HOOD-vs-MENACE II SOCIETY !!!

In your personal opinion, which movie you think hit much closer to home(eventhough both stories are mad similar regarding subject matter and situations), which one you personally felt was the most Saddest or Best one ?

shit doggie thats a hard one both classics i would say tie....menace touched on the real shit tho both classics shit imma watch menace on sunday

boyz in da hood was filmed like a few minutes from my house...so that hits closer to home, literally...lol..i liked it better too...i vaguely remember menace to society..i just remember somebody bleeding from the mouth...and that poor dude askin to suck kane's dick for a cheeseburger...all i remember

Parts of Menace II Society was filmed around the corner from where I used to live as well. But yeah, I think it made much more of an impact on me than Boyz N Da Hood.

Boyz N the Hood had a bigger impact on me more so than Menace to society. Both films were fantastic but Boyz N The Hood displayed a more heart felt message.

"Boyz In Da Hood" gave you the 80's gang lifestyle and "Menace II Society" gives you the 90's gang lifestlye.!!!

No. Boyz in da Hood was an after school special set to a day time drama. Not accurate at all. Good movie, but very hollywood. C'mon y'all, Cuba Gooding Jr??!?!?!

One day I will tell y'all the real about the director and the movie. I wish I still had the uncut version.

I remember it like yesterday walking back home from the movie theather wondering how I would react if my boys got gunned down like Cain and them. Boyz in the Hood was hot cause It also made me think what I would do if my brother was killed over some bullshit!
But MENACE is the TRUTH. It showed crab ass negros and how the HATE and fuck up a playa cause of pussy. It showed that one gun happy crazy negro on the block everybody tries to avoid. Man the ending was mind blowing. The message loud and clear. What comes around goes around and you ain't out the hood until you out the hood!

What about the movie "COLORS"!!!

That was just a movie that let the world know about Los Angeles notorious gang problem/violence. It ain't got nothin' on Boyz & Menace though.

3:44 AM an I am pecking away on my computer...well...it's Sunday morning.

Boyz in the Hood had a better impact. Now, I was never into the gang thing. I was however from a home with a single mom, however my mom wasn't the strong charactor that Angela Bassett was in this movie, and my dad was closer to Lawrence Fishburn's other popular charactor...Ike Turner.

What made Boyz N the Hood better to me is the fact that it was more heartfelt in it's message. It showed how kids who grew up in the same place can come out completely different, and the differences had a lot to do with positive role models.

I don't know what Furious Styles did for a living in that movie, but I DO know that he didn't sell drugs and was on the legal as to provide a positive father figure to his kid. What is missing from black homes isn't necessarily the father...but the POSITIVE role model father. The "I bust my tail to provide for you so you can have food on the table. I don't hit my woman. I provide for my kids. I live my life legal so I have no fear of the police" type of father.

I had a father who lived with my siblings,my mother and I. But since he was Ike Turner incarnate, he brought nothing but negative to the household. Furious Styles tried to change the world through the only person he could...his son. Menace II Society was a decnt movie, with upstart actors as well, but was far from the powerful message that Boyz N the Hood had.

I'm outta here before Colin Powell comes.

I think Boyz In Da Hood was a lot more "hollywood" in that it just seems a little less gritty than Menace II Society (which is not to say that either one is unbelievable). They're both pretty good (why the hell are we choosing???); can't imagine one being disappointed watching either one.

Cosign. I like both, but "Boyz N The Hood" had a better script & better acting.

I liked BOYZ simply because of FISHBURN's character, out of all the hood movies that came about it was the only to show a black men in a positive light.

That's a TIGHT ASS MOVIE. Didn't hear a peep from the Hughes Brothers after this joint though until AMERICAN PIMP a long ass time later......... Maybe they stepped on the wrong toes with this classic movie.

Black Man -- Don't Get CAUGHT!

Everytime I think of 'boys n the hood' I think of the scene where Lawrence Fishburne was schooling them kids about selling property and whites taking over the neighborhood. That shit was deep man. His character was just so unbiased and such a strong blackmale father figure like my own pops. And that movie was about choices. The choices that Ice Cube's and Morris Chesnut's characters made. And the choices Cuba Gooding Jr's characters made. Menace was some violent gangbang, troubled teen shit.

I like them both bot Boyz N The Hood hit hoe a bit more. Especially the fact about the other showing more love to one son than the other. :smh:

Boyz was good at the time showing a little hope in the darkness with Tre, his girl, and how a dad can make a difference. I personally liked Menace because it showed what was coming and had gone on before as well.

Menace showed you in the hood, a dad being around trying to help (Charles Dutton), may not make a bit of difference even innocent bystanders get knocked down see the Muslim kid. Some simple beat-down calls for a response and it comes when you decide to do the right thing. Menace also showed the coming of a crazier type of kid, in the form of O-dog. These little ass g's who went way over the top with the violence and foolishness.

This made me realize, hmm we either try to help these youngstas or we kill them, for self protection. Moms will go to the store and go on her walk with her dog, that's the bottom-line those who get in the way will pay. Or you move moms realizing killing 20 gangstas and their extended family (60 people at the least) would cause u to be hunted by the police and their ghetto ass relatives at the same time.

We have to make some fucked up choices in parts of Black America

Boyz N Da Hood...I could identify with Trey waaaaay more than Kain...Trey was a smart kid that was raised in the hood..Kain was a hood dude with some smarts...Trey was more of a "hero" that rolled with a fukked up crowd...Kain was a "villain" with a little bit of heart...

I can understand why considering Menace II Society only costed them 3.5 million dollars to make but grossed over 300 million dollars in profit.

300 MILL?!!!

I know they had beef with Pac too...that might have something to do with it too... :(

boyz in the hood had better acting and better storyline. menace had a few gaps but hit home with more viewers. hard to call it.

WTF??? That would've made it one of the most successful movies in history.

Actually, it grossed a sturdy $28M, which was a nice profit on the $3.5M budget.

Boyz was the bigger hit at $58M, on a $6M budget.

Their two profit ratios were similar (8x and 9x-the-budget).

Nah you won't be seeing a Colin Powell here for what you wrote. Whats funny is i've always liked Menace 2 Society better until last weekend when i watched Boyz again and started seeing the exact samething you just wrote that i put in bold.
