Boyce Watkins calls out Tiffany Haddish cooning

Let's say Tiffany didn't exist.........who would be in her place?

Some of her stuff is over the top, but its comedy.....

good question

unfortunately WE never decide those things...

I aint never seen a sister from SNL blow like that besides the mixed chick who funny as HELL.

Wanda Sykes had her moment

I think the head writer on the Seth Meyers show could be the one

but they been a more than FEW really smart beautiful funny sisters in the spot but its ALWAYS brief.

Sad Sommore never REALLY got to pop

She’s a comedian.
She’s loud
She’s attractive, to an extent.
She’s gaining popularity
She knowingly plays less smart than she is.

She not my role model for my kids, but let her live and get paid. There’s no need to over identify with this woman.

Boyce is quickly drifting to Umar territory. He was only sketchy, now he’s moving to unlikeable and annoying
yep! hes now dropping into gossip territory

@4 Dimensional and @largebillsonlyplease

how do feel about this idea of being

VINYL FUNNY?

Comedy is very subjective. I’m from the Def Comedy Jam and Comic View era of black comedy where snapping and talking shit was a big thing, but we did have some good story tellers.

Eddie Murphy was able to pull of both sight funny and tape funny. Pryor as well (the best).

Redd Foxx was joke funny. If you wasn’t listening, then you miss it.

Moms Mably was minstrel show funny, which I am unable to understand her comedy from the 30s and 40s. Listening to her stuff from way back when is kind of boring.

Hart and Haddish are silly. Good for today’s age, but not my cup of tea.

That being said, we have to let her be. She’s found her lane. It works for her. She not comparable to any greats because live stand up today is almost like heavy weight boxing. There is a shortage of talent.

Lastly, the funniest people I know are not even celebrity comedians. They regular everyday non-status people. BGOL is funnier than most comedians today. Lol.

And I'm not even a fan of hers.
She isn't cooning. Her personality is loud and obnoxious and in your face and her cultural background is rooted in blackness.
She's no more cooning than a Melissa McCarthney is for being loud, in your face, obnoxious, and wearing badges of personality rooted in whiteness that's deemed OK simply cause it's white.
This. We're always adding stipulations to HOW we're supposed to wear our blackness.

This. We're always adding stipulations to HOW we're supposed to wear our blackness.

And those stipulations causes us to be limited as a HUMAN.

That’s why I have unsubscribed to the the idea of BEING black. We should just be because if we keep listening to all these stipulations, were not going to be able to explore our potential.

This is something I have been dealing with the last 2 to 3 years. I have torn down MY mythology of what it means to be black because I never felt so limited and worried on how I would be judged by those who look like me.

I want us to be ourselves and find whatever path is best without having to worry about those constant-goalpost moving stipulations.

I feel like EVERYBODY knows this...

yet it is STILL an issue of debate.

I wonder if you can tell anything ABOUT a person by WHAT style of comedy they enjoy?

yo, he funny

I don't find Amber to be funny either...just a tad goofy to me. It's good that she can write but her performances are blah.

What I really find odd is that cats will call her a coon for roles she plays, but nobody says shyt about Cardi B and artists like her, who "play" over the top characters in their music.

Subject makes the entire difference lmaooooooooooooooooooooooooo

by your logic Candace Owens shouldn't be labeled a coon because she's not like Diamond and Silk she speaks perfect dialect and is conservative dressing as well as not as animated in her personality lol

You'll say that Tiffany Haddish is playing up a negative stereotype and cooning
and then say well Eddie had some borderline roles as if he didn't get on stage and play Buckwheat

And I don't have a problem with EITHER of those things
you just have a selective problem with 1 and not the other.

IMO Eddie's buckwheat was satire. In the vein of Chappelle's ******* skit or black KKK skit.

And yes C Owens is also cooning. It come in different flavors. Clearly.

But being the goofy ghetto stereotype comedian seems to be the only type of black comedian who make it in Hollywood.
For now and really Hollywood only caters to what they think we will accept, buy into and push.Granted no one I know nor no one this board has said that they find her funny so it might just be a matter of time for her,who knows.

All I'm saying is that I can't hate on her totally because just about every comedian from the 90's still here still doing their thing and that has a name in Hollywood plays into one stereotype or another;Katt is a small pimp,Kevin is a small timid black guy who's everyone's friend aka not a threat,Tracy is the fool who's been special all his life aka a product of special education,Dave smart opinionated black guy who white people think might be a republican...sike bitches he's everything but...ect.We like all for every reason or not for whatever reason.

I saw the Tylor Perry movie she did and not because I wanted too but it was ok but trust when I tell you no one walked out of there overly joyed after watching her shtick of comedy in that film.

I find female comedians have to try too hard. Seems unnatural at times. All the females that make me laugh really never intends to be funny. They just are.l and they are really good story tellers, not jokesters.

Lucille Ball Carol Burnett to me were the GREATEST male or female

Moms Mabley and later Aunt Esther made me laugh

even Joan Rivers to me is in the all time category JUST as a trailblazer alone.

But much like in hip hop?

You gotta be REAL good for a woman to make me laugh.

Even that will and Grace chick who was really a Lucy clone WAS funny.

To Sommore should have have been bigger

I don't think there has EVER been a female equivalent to Eddie Murphy.

and I make a distinction cause to me that is why Eddie was one of the all time greats on screen and on stage and in skits and in improv and even singing?

He ALWAYS KILLED

cause there is TV funny, movie funny, stand up funny, sit com funny, internet funny, SNL / skit funny, political smart funny

Living Single they were ALL funny ...VERY VERY funny. But that is TV funny

you get what I'm saying?

There are moments and I am being SERIOUS here

that Pam and Martin reached modern Laurel and Hardly, Abbot and Costello level of funny on that show.

I actually find Sara Silverman funny

Samantha B too.

This dude must be running out of shit to talk about.
I just saw a video he did crying about how good morning America censored the shit out of wu tang's performance. I guess he never saw the Motherless Child video back in the day. Rap City would blank out half the song. You think GMA is going to play around with curse words ? Lol

OK listen to tTHIS...

and imagine a Black Female Comedienne was performing it...

If it was delivered from the Mother's POV, then it'd be perceived totally different than if it were Kevina talking about HER mother. The mother would be looked at as trashy, even if it were funny; but coming from the daughter, you'd be more empathetic and would laugh WITH her, not AT her experiences, almost like a therapy for her to get it off of her chest.
