Irredeemable

Irredeemable is author Mark Waid's third and "most complex" story concerning the "cost of superheroics" or the "path of villainy". Kingdom Come concerned the "ethical price of heroism" and Empire premised the ultimate failure of superheroes, but Irredeemable is "about how the lessons we learn about right and wrong as children can become warped and twisted when challenged by the realities of the adult world." Waid realized that the concept was one he could never properly explore at either DC or Marvel Comics, a "Twilight of the Superheroes"-style story revolving around the premise of "how does a man go from being the world’s greatest superhero to its greatest supervillain?"

Waid's premise stems from the rejection of the idea that, in "superhero comics, pretty much everyone who’s called upon to put on a cape is, at heart, emotionally equipped for the job." He expounds of this by stating that:

The beauty of Superman is that he can deal with that level of adulation without it going to his head, without it warping him, but he's a very special individual. We presume, whenever we write superheros and we come up with superhero origins, that anybody who gets the powers of a superhero — even if they are like Spider-Man and they've got things they've got to work out that issue and responsibility and power and responsibility — we assume that they eventually have the emotional makeup it takes to overcome these things. Well, what if you gave that level of power to someone who, at heart, didn't have that emotional capability?

Waid further notes that, "by the classic superhero rules," a hero can't concern themselves with what people think of them, but that if "you are so far removed as to not care what people think of you, it takes one less step to not care what people think."

If you like it buy it! It's the only way writers you like will keep putting out content you like.

Very good book. One of the books I now look forward to reading every month like a little kid. This along with Incorruptible.

thank you for putting us on to this megazell, but I will have to get the trade, can't do the issue by issue thing any more

I got a nice little game going on.

I buy all of the single issues. But I don't want them. I just want to read them. I want the TPBs.

So I sell my back issues for the minimum of cover (or more...but all I want is cover...sometimes ppl jump in and be like 'I will give you $10 for that...') back to collectors at the store that jumped on late and then pick up my TPB usually at a profit.

I feel you. I make it my thing to make sure my habits pay for themselves.

If no one buys them I donate them and get it back in taxes ;)

tight shit, up to issue 3.. read some of what the writer was thinking too..

basically a superman realizing that people aint shit  love it..

also read Incorruptible today

checked Boom! Studios wiki page and saw a long list of comics..

i'll look into them all but is until i figure it all out and get my hands on them, any suggested reading order as far as series?

something that will help me piece together their universe/world and know who's who and whats what? or is there no real history and this is sort of new?

So far what is out is it.

The only other thing was a free book that came out with a short story about Irredeemable during Free Comic Book Day 09...I have not seen it online and I don't own a scanner.

Mark Waid has been using his writing clout to write books that tackle questions about superheroes and villains.

In Empire he tried to ans - What would a super villain do if he finally won and took over the world?

He he is ans - What would a super being really do among mortals?

Ok so what is "Incorruptible".

Oh about what Waid said about a corrupted hero; didn't DC attempt to something like with Armageddon 2001(I lucked up and guess that it was going to be Captain Atom, but DC decided to go with Hawk at last moment:hmm:WTF?)

Do you remember why Hawk went mad? Because Dove died. Then he came back. Then she died again. Then Armageddon 2001 never happened and Hawk became Extant. Then Monarch became Captain Atom...then he became Time Trapper...then he became Waverider...then he became...Fuck it.

It was good but they never took it all the way.

Hawk was never a super being either...he's more like a mutant/aspect.
